how mutually intelligible is PT-PT and BR-PT

i've really wanted to learn brazilian portuguese for a while, and have found myself increasingly interested in portuguese literature, but most of this literature is PT-PT. if i learn BR-PT, would I be able to read + engage with PT-PT media?

spanish, portuguese (bz vs pt), irish, or persian

spanish -> not massively interested but i think it's a nice language

portuguese -> i love the sound of brazilian portuguese, i want to learn it but there aren't exact A1-C2 guidelines/exams which i would prefer. would be open to european portuguese but i don't like it as much

irish -> i have irish heritage so would be interested in learning it but there aren't a lot of resources around

persian -> would be the hardest to learn but the script is beautiful and i think it sounds beautiful. i think it would also just be interesting for a native english speaker to learn as it's not very common, i just don't know if i see myself going to iran anytime soon as it's not great for women lol

i know most people will probably say spanish and then portuguese but try and weigh my interest in them as well as practicality. but thank you for any advice!!

how many languages can a person realistically and reasonably maintain?

I'm learning my first foreign language but always had an eventual goal of becoming a polyglot. I try not to put to much pressure on what languages I choose to learn bc I can always learn another later - but considering that I dont want to forget what I've already learned and replace old languages I learned with new ones, I do wonder how many languages I could actually maintain, and thus how many language 'slots' I actually have lol. puts a bit more pressure on what to pick

BSL, brazilian portuguese or irish?

for background: I live in England, native english speaker and lower-intermediate in french. i'm thinking about what language I may want to pick up when I feel more secure with french

BSL -> did a taster session the other day and thought it was really cool and their level 1 BSL course starts in september so not sure whether I'm interested enough to commit. obviously there aren't that many speakers nationwide but within the deaf community it would be pretty easy to find speakers irl lol. and i think more people should learn BSL. this would probs be the most expensive one tho as i would find it basically impossible to learn without paying for a course

brazilian portuguese -> always felt drawn to it, used to do some duolingo and actually got quite far into the course so I must've liked it lol, I think it sounds really pretty. the only thing that puts me off is that obviously not many people in my continent speak it lmao so I worry that that may demotivate me (although it's not like I know any french speakers either lol). this would probably be the easiest one to self teach

irish -> i have irish heritage, so if i'm picking up languages then I feel obliged to help resurrect a pretty endangered language. I think the government should be putting more emphasis on restoring the language and i don't want to see it die out. obviously interested in irish culture which would be motivating but there are hardly any resources and hardly any speakers. i'd have to rely on online communities, and I imagine that even that would be pretty difficult to find - or at least more so than most other spoken languages

[18/F] looking for a non-uk penpal!

Hey i'm from London and am looking for a female penpal from another country!! Preferably someone from a country that speaks another language other than english as they're culturally more different to the uk, but really someone from any country other than the uk would be amazing!!

I love art, reading, listening to + playing music, concerts, going out and photography, and I study biology, psychology and maths at school

I really want to learn about different cultures and what ur lives are like, and I've been thinking a lot lately about trying to make more long-term friends so just want to get to know people to see if there's the potential for that:)

visiting Donaghadee

okay I've always had this fantasy ab (temporarily) living in a coastal area (but with a UK-like climate) with kind of seaside vibes and a lighthouse
to those who have been in donaghadee before, do u think that this town matches that energy at all? and do u get many tourists there?

edinburgh, glasgow, or inverness?

planning a very short trip this autumn and would like to visit scotland as I've never been before!

Only I'm not sure where I should go; I love museums, old buildings and shopping! And I'll be taking my camera so anywhere I could take pretty pictures:)

what do you think about the app falou??

I just downloaded falou to help learn portuguese as it has really good ratings on the app store and i'm answering some of the intro questions but there are so many language errors?? like the kind of mistakes a non-fluent english speaker would say like 'how would you like us to call you?'. considering it's an app to help LEARN languages, i would have thought that there would be at least one person on their team who's fluent in each of the languages the app is offered in/teaches
so to english speakers who've used it, was it helpful? are there a lot of other language errors? thank you!!

Where can I watch Hilda Furacao with English subs?

I’ve tried everything I can think of. Wlext, Telemundo, Globoplay, diga, ViX, and some other websites. It looks like a good telenovela😭🥲
