Some photos of an Ajahn Mun displays in Chiang Mai
I'm currently in Chiang Mai 16 years after my first retreat here. Such a beautiful Buddhist city.
Has anyone been to Wat Pah Pong or Wat Pah Nanachat in Ubon Ratchathani? Whats it like?
Kmarts new ninja range
Is it kind of hypercritical that they sell ninja outfits, but not the weapons to go with it?
Can we stop selling home games?
Is the $ really worth sacrificing the potential advantage to win games?
Look at Adelaide for instance. They play 13 games at Adelaide oval. 2 of which against Pear so 11 games advantaged.
We play 7 games against teams at Marvel which are against teams where Marvel is not their home ground.
I dare say it costs us a win, maybe 2?
Now that we are potentially in a position to push for finals in the coming years, we need to stop selling home games IMO.
Does 12 month buy/sell cycles to use marginal tax rates beat 30% base tax rate?
Sorry if this has been asked and answered before.
Under the new rules, it seems gains from assests held under 12 months are still part of marginal tax rates. Is that correct?
Is it worth buying and selling shares within the 12 months to use the gains in marginal tax rather than holding longer where its a 30% min minus indexing?
This is obviously purely for those with no other income, and using this as their form of financial independence.
I'm thinking combining this with some high yield shares to keep to under 45k combined gains plus dividends. Including the selling of capital from the gain which is tax free of course, this should give me a good 60k+ per year, and 11.5% tax on gains and dividends (18.2k tax free and 16% to 45k)
Perhaps this purely tax minimising tactic still doesnt beat the market, but its worth exploring. If anyone has looked at this, please share your calculations and thoughts.
Forgive me if this is dumb! I'm new to this and still working it out. I was 5 years away from FI just selling down and using the 50% discount. Now I'm rethinking everything. I only found this sub because of this clucsterfuck of a budget
I am not my boredom
Just thought I'd share a little breakthrough i had around 6 years ago that led me to much deeper, longer meditation. I had been attending retreats regularly and I noticed a pattern. I was pretty good at sitting and walking meditation, but would take a break at some stage, once or twice during the day. During the break I allowed my mind to wander. One retreat I went for a mind wandering walk and collected some feathers I found. The next day, I did the same. I had like 20 feathers in my room by the end of the retreat. It dawned on me. What the fuck am I doing. I saw that if my meditation led me to need to take thiese kind of mind wandering, feathers collecting journeys, I was doing it wrong. I believed meditation should be a natural, relaxed and effortless stillness, and clearly, thats not where I was heading.
So I became really mindful as I sat. Am I trying to get somewhere? Am I battling with body comfort? What is this unease? It was those, plus mostly the craving for entertainment, the arising of boredom. I knew this couldnt be dealt with in a regular home practice, it needed to be on my next retreat. So I spent a year watching it, preparing. I knew my task. My meditations went up to over 2 hours. When retreat time came, I brought no distractions. I never did bring anything much anyway. But now I couldnt even read the back of a packet of soap.
When I sat for meditation on the retreat there was a new enthusiasm. I sat in meditation. When the body got uncomfortable, I just mindfully readjusted. When it got really uncomfortable I went for a mindful walk. At meal time I mindfully ate. I did this in a non grasping way. I left my life behind and relaxed into mindfulness in all postures at all times. Boredom of course arose, but it left. I greeted it, said hello and knew it would not last. It didnt, and relaxation increased. I did this for 7 days straight.
On the 7th day, a pleasure came through my body. Everything was beautiful. I was full of radient energy. It was extreme bliss. I mean extreme like pure extacy. I didnt need sleep anymore. It last until after the retreat. I was concerned and spoke to the monk in charge. He laughed and said I had good meditation. With my concern though, he said just go and take your girlfriend out and spoil her. It was so good. I did have to see a doctor about the lack sleeping, but it went away. 3 months of utter bliss. It was crazy. It changed my practice totally. I sit for hours. Life is easy, basic, and i just keep it simple.
