Fun and cheap things to do in Athens, OH?

My girlfriend and I really want to find fun and inexpensive things to do around Athens/OU, especially during the summer. We love hiking and doing anything outdoors, I have a library card and we’ve checked out the bikes before (apparently there’s a new experience pass that you can check out through the ACPL), and we’re up for pretty much anything!

I’ve also been looking around for a pool, especially one that’s not super expensive to go to.

Edit: My gf and I are actually terrible at biking haha, and I’d like to note we’re both chronically ill.

Relationship advice and unmedicated ADHD! How do I have a healthy balance with my girlfriend who is also autistic?

I (F22) was diagnosed about over a year ago with ADHD and diagnosed with autism back in November 2025, and an important note is that my ADHD is unmediated. I also have C-PTSD, anxiety, and bipolar. My girlfriend also has autism (no ADHD), and while we both understand our autistic sides and how to accommodate to each other on that front, I find myself heavily feeling my ADHD side.

I definitely feel the hyperactivity and pressured speech, like I can’t stop moving around and doing things, feeling restless, and just talking and talking. My girlfriend tends to get overstimulated by it sometimes especially when she’s already overstimulated by other factors. I try not to take it personally when she tells me she needs me to stop talking and try and accommodate to her autism as well, but it’s hard because I’m already so self conscious of my ADHD—it makes me feel annoying, I’m always so scattered and extremely forgetful, and it feels like it takes over my life. My forgetfulness and brain fog doesn’t help anything either, especially if I forget a task/something important I need for my gf, which tends to frustrate her even though she’s still understanding.

My psychiatrist doesn’t want to start me on stimulants until I get my other medication under control and also because of the risk of triggering a manic episode, but this feels so frustrating and intolerable. Thankfully I see her in a couple days and will try to advocate for stimulants, but I feel like treatment for my ADHD is currently out of reach. Does anyone have any tips as to how to manage unmedicated ADHD? And how to have a healthy relationship with your partner who doesn’t have ADHD (although still neurodivergent)?

Fibro flu-like feelings, widespread pain, and chronic fatigue tips?

I (22F) just recently got diagnosed with fibromyalgia about a month ago—pretty much the usual checklist of symptoms.

I think the parts that bother me the most are when it feels like I have the flu and my whole body aches (especially when I’m really hot) and also being so unbelievably tired all the time, even when I’m not doing a whole lot in the day. I feel so behind because of how slowly I’m doing things and how little I’m able to do. I also don’t know what to do for the widespread pain, especially when ibuprofen and Aleve don’t touch it and only a Vicodin can. Obviously I don’t want to be dependent on medications like those all the time. I’m taking Lyrica twice a day for anxiety, but my PCP told me it could help with my fibro as well.

I take 10mg of Doxepin for sleep but it’s incredibly hard to get restful sleep no matter how many hours I’ve slept. My doctor told me that my medications put me to sleep but my pain/muscle spasms are still present during the night, which would contribute to my poor sleep. I find myself falling asleep mid-task, like filling out paperwork or playing video games, and it’s frustrating and kind of embarrassing.

I do yoga every day, use topical pain relievers, TCH salves and tinctures (flower in general), and am now taking 500mg of Robaxin up to 3x daily. I’m also going to do trigger point therapy in a couple of months. I would love to try acupuncture if it’s covered by my insurance.

What other tips do you have, despite how crazy they are? I’m desperate for any relief and everything feels so impossible and out of reach right now.
