Dead man’s fingers - found in a Scandinavian garden
They say you should not eat the skin or the seeds, but the gel is tasty. Would you try? 😅

In southern Norway. A dry log placed on a cool and (apparantly) a bit moist concrete surface in a basement keeping 18-20 degrees Celsius.
Nothing obviously fossil-like is exposed on the surface. Would anyone with experience with fossils from the Oslo region be interested in looking at something like this, or is it most likely destined to remain a piece of garden decoration?
Compared to the baseline of normal coverage.
I’ve been working on a project that maps how international news attention shifts between countries over time.
Instead of showing raw article volume, it compares each country’s current coverage to its own baseline. The idea is to surface places that are suddenly receiving unusually high or low attention, even if they are not among the countries with the most total coverage.
For each country, I’m trying to show things like attention shift, tone shift, top words, source count, and article examples. The data source is GDELT.

What countries are getting more media attention than the baseline of the given country? Answer is in the map, day by day.
I’ve been building a mobile/web-site called AttentionFlare:
It tracks which countries are receiving unusually high or low international media attention compared with their own recent baseline.
It currently tracks 167 countries and includes a live attention map, flare scores, a 30-day replay, tone shift indicators and a daily brief.
I’d be interested in feedback from people who follow world events: would this be useful as a daily “where is global media attention shifting?” view?
