18 milestone, just maxed my TFSA for last year!

Hello! I'm born in September, and am turning 19 this upcoming September. I did not open my TFSA until January 2026, so I did not start my 2025 contribution until this year.

I had a financial goal of maxing out my 2025 contributions before my birthday and recently have been able to reach $7000. I will try to get as close to $10,000 by December, but I will be back in uni and not sure if I will be working during the year as well. So far I have put 80% of my paycheck into investing in my TFSA and a tiny percent of that in my FHSA.

Grateful that my parents pay for university and food so that I am able to contribute this much, otherwise I'd have $0 to put towards this.

Need help with future program planning for exchange year

Hi everyone, I'm going into second year and have my courses planned out already for that. I'm just using degree explorer to plan 3rd and 4th year courses. The only required courses are POL and PHL, not the PRT.

I know I want to go on an exchange year or semester but I don't know when to go since I am competing in varsity sports for UofT so I would think it's better to do it my last year, but then I wouldn't graduate in June. I also need a full course load (5 courses) to be able to do an exchange year. Should I just do it third year and move most of the 4th year courses down to take them in 3rd year for the full load? Or do a bunch of random courses.

Just asking now because I'll have to apply for the exchange program this year for next year.

Accidentally made the SOFTEST cinnamon rolls of my life

So I decided to make cinnamon rolls today, and my oven kept trying to catch itself on fire because the excess butter and sugar from the cinnamon rolls kept leaking onto the floor of the even. So I ended up having to cook it in intervals, 5 mins 350°, 2 mins 325°, 10 mins 300°, 4 mins 325°, 2 mins 350°, etc, while letting the smoke out of the oven. This means it was a bit undercooked but I let it sit after out of the oven and it seemingly cooked itself a bit more.

Thankfully I had aluminum foil on them so that they didn't burn or taste and smell like smoke. But holy fuck are they JUICY and MOIST for fucking once. They used to come out dry and overworked in the past, and so I realized that proofing it 3 times, 2 times in the oven at 95° for 30 mins each, and one more time in the oven after having rolled them makes it rise a ton.

ALSO MOST IMPORTANTLY, I created a concoction of 50% butter and 50% milk since I have no heavy cream, and doused it over the cinnamon rolls before cooking them so their interior was juicy while the bottom was crispy from the cooked brown sugar. I have never been so happy in my life.

This is the recipe I used, but the concoction isn't included in this:

Can't even put pictures of their own food🤣🤣

Why would anyone buy from a food place that is too lazy to even put real pictures of why they offer...

Cat caught baby bunny while walk outside

Hi everyone! My cat and I were on a walk when he started hunting something in the bush. I realized it was a wild baby bunny after he caught it by the neck. He was trying to bring it inside the house so I let him because I wanted to release the bunny but didn't want to touch it in case the mother would smell my human scent and wouldn't take it back.

As you can see the bunny was not injured at all and wasn't in since he was bouncing around the house all cute. I ended up using gloves to pick him up and release him back into my backyard and he hopped away.

Was this the right decision, should I have taken it to get checked out maybe? I didn't want to take it too long since its family might have been nearby. I see these rabbits in our back yard every day.

Posted 6 days ago and all I have to say is thank you Micron (18F)

Posted 6 days ago with people telling me to take a profit, and I agree. I wish I did. But with me being Canadian I don't like the conversion rate eating away for each buy and sell. Then yesterday, pre-earnings, Micron dropped down to $1070 so I bought a tiny bit more shares, then down to $1040 and $990 today which I didn't have money to buy. I didn't sell and happy about it, since it is currently going back up again. However, only real market hours plus selling will determine my profit!

Thank you to everyone who was giving advice!

This is more than I make in a month of working (18F)

Just wanted to say, I currently work at a gym making minimum wage ($17.60) and typically make like $1000-1400 a month depending on how many hours I work. To see it go up that much in the past week is insane.

Started investing at the end of January (18f)

I was like wondering really bad back in January whether I wanted to start investing or save up regularly and use my money to go on trip in September, but here I am. Opened the TFSA back in January and just opened the FHSA (trying to play it safe with that one, not much risk). Lmk if you have an advice for long term holding.

Help with curly hair advice and estimate of natural growth time

Hey all! I love wearing my natural hair but I've been contemplating whether I want to cut my hair again or just grow it out but want any help to estimate how long it will take to grow back to the "original" length. I'm also first providing my routine below before giving background info on each picture so ANY ADVICE IS APPRECIATED!!!

HAIR ROUTINE

I have low porosity 4a hair I believe. My hair fights my shower water and never absorbs it. My routine includes washing every 3-4 days with T444Z shampoo and conditioner. I air dry my hair after washing, I don't really like diffusers cause they shrink my hair even more.

After I shower I alternate between leaving Shea Moisture Curl & Shine Hair Masque and Mielle's Rosemary Mint Strengthening Hair Masque in to keep it wet. I also use Wonder afro Argan Oil for styling instead of gel so it doesn't flake or dry out my hair. I like changing my hairstyles a lot so I wear my hair up a lot if that changes anything because I don't like my natural hair out at the awkward length it's growing back at. I try to wear a sating bonnet or durag or bandana to sleep but sometimes I just forget.

So I'm just wondering how long it might take, I assume another 5 years, but maybe since it's actually healthy it'll take shorter??

BACKGROUND INFO TO THE PICS (Hair Journey)

In 2018 I went away to send a summer to my white grandparents' home and they didn't have the proper hair products, and didn't take me to a hairdresser that whole summer so over two months my curly hair became super matted, and I cut it all off right before turning 11. It was super short and I became insecure of my short hair.

Photos 1, 2, and 3 are from March-June 2024, so about 6 years after the big chop, but I had bleached and dyed ginger brown hair back then.

Photos 4, 5, and 6 are from July-December 2024, when I bleached my hair again, this time to orangey blonde. (Don't ask me what I was doing I had a midlife crisis) It was EXTREMELY dry and was constantly breaking at this point.

Photos 7, 8, and 9 are a sequence of the worst hair experience I've ever had. I had dyed my hair black in December, and it looked gorgeous but was still extremely dry. I had braids in from December-February 2025, and took them out to look how photo 7 does. After that I detangled and showered but clearly I didn't detangle enough because all my hair matted in photo 8, and then photo 9 shows all the hair my hairdresser miraculously managed to save.

Photos 10, and 11 show my hair in early October 2025, around shoulder length when curly so lower shoulders while straightened. I still had a lot of bleached dead hair left.

Photos 12, and 13 show my hair late October 2025 after I straightened my hair and cut off a decent chunk of the bleach twice (idk how much cause I did it myself).

Photos 14, 15, and 16, show my third time cutting my hair in November 2025 (I loved that length in photo 14), and then it a grew awkwardly outwards a bit by mid November (photos 15 an 16)

Photos 18 and 19 reveal the curly growth it has had to May and June 2026, haven't straightened my hair since October so I can't really show a comparison of that, but since like 95% of the bleach has been cut off, my curls have grown back to their original curl pattern of 4a I believe.

My hair is now healthier.

Email inquiry to Big Law Firm in Toronto, does this sound okay?

Hey! I've never posted in this sub so excuse the format of this question and whether it is relevant to this sub...

One of the "Seven Sisters" Big Law Firm in Toronto offers primarily Summer Law Student positions (for Law Students obviously) but state that they occasionally offer some work/experience for Pre-Law Students (Undergraduate) and to reach out via email to them. I am planning to send this Monday morning.

For short context, I am a university student studying political science who will be completing second year by the time this opportunity is offered (Summer 2027). I met one of the Partners at a high school reunion (went to a small private school that does these things) and we connected because of a mutual teacher who taught us both and also coached us in the same sport. I spoke to them about their role as Partner, their career, about their role as a Summer Law Student at this firm, etc. They gave me their personal information, offering mentoring and career advice, and we've communicated a couple of times but since they're on leave for their newborn I didn't want to bother them by asking them to look through this inquiry email.

This is it:

Dear [Firm name] HR Team and Legal Talent Officers,

I hope this email finds you all well. I am reaching out to inquire about any upcoming summer 2027 opportunities for pre-law school students at [Firm name].

My name is [...]. I am a Political Science student at the University of Toronto with an interest in business and tax law. My interest in working at the firm initially occurred in February when I had the pleasure of meeting [Partner name] at a high school [high school name] alumni event held in Toronto. Despite her role as a Partner at [Firm name], she was incredibly generous with her time, speaking with me about the firm, its environment, her transition from Political Science in undergraduate studies into her interest in law, her experience as a Summer Law Student in [...], and even sharing contact information with the purpose of offering mentoring or career advice. While I understand she is currently on maternity leave, our conversation inspired me to look further into the firm's initiatives as she spoke highly of them.

As I did further research, I noticed that [Firm name] had a partnership with [Specific club] at the University of Toronto to provide opportunities for undergraduate [minority] students to experience law firms and understand the practice of law. This initiative to support diversity, equity, and inclusion aligned with my experience as part of the [Specific club] undergraduate program, prompting me to inquire about any upcoming 2027 summer opportunities at your firm.

In 2024 I had the opportunity to do a brief summer internship at [Family Law Firm in Ottawa name], a family law firm, where my position was to organize misplaced physical case files by case number and alphabetically, as well as review cases and provide my own personal insights and feedback into a case that was to be presented in court by one of the Partners. This experience was a learning opportunity and gave me insight into how small family law firms operate and the logistics of representing clients in court.

If there are any office assistant, receptionist, legal file clerk, or other minor roles that pre-law students are needed for, I would be grateful for the chance to demonstrate my skills and capacity. I also believe that in a multicultural market like Toronto that I would be an asset in light of my language skills (English, French, Spanish, Italian and currently learning Portuguese).

Please see my attached resume for direct experience and skills. Thank you for your time and consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
[My name and then signature under]

Any help is great!! Thank you

Why does everyone in this sub have paper hands

Like some of yall were bitching and whining about MU being too expensive and having to buy in sky high (and yes I bought in at like $908 and $1023 so it hurts to watch my whole portfolio be 10% down) but then when it goes down yall bitching and whining about a stock that climbed to $1000 per share in under a year slightly going down once.

Do people genuinely believe stocks will be all green all the time...Like if you have no risk tolerance go throw your money in an ETF and save yourself the stress. Like I'm hella down right now, but there's a reason I 90% ported MU, because of my own research and choice to invest in something I had faith in. Today it's down, might be down for another week, month, year, doesn't matter. Semiconductors are extremely relevant in this day and age, so if you want to just buy high sell low be my guest but get off this sub complaining.

Reminder of my $908 USD buy in that everyone said would pull back hard...

I made a post on Monday about buying in at $908, with many saying it would pull back hard the next day, and me objecting believing it would grow steadily because of everything that has been going on with Micron. Safe to say, I'm up $100 USD and have never been prouder🥱

18F needing help with portfolio?

Hello! I am relatively new to investing. I turned 18 in September 2025, but didn't open a TFSA until January 2026.

I am looking for advice on my portfolio and the current ETF/stock picks I have.

Since I'm young, I don't mind my portfolio's individual stock percentage being greater than 10%, and with the pending fractional buys it would move from around 9.8% with just BDT to 24%. I wanted to invest directly in more american individual stocks but I have no USD and am not willing to pay for the monthly US account nor will I pay the conversion fees of 1.5 buy and 1.5 sell. I decided to go with the hedged options which I know take a small percentage but I'd rather this. I also picked NVDA and MU because of a belief that they will continue to grow or at least stay relevant as AI grows, and I picked BDT and CAT because I believe construction will always be profitable, and they are both the largest canadian and american construction companies.

I know many will be like just get ETFs but I'd rather not only have those, and yes I know there is overlap between VFV, VDY, and XEQT, but I like having all three so maybe I would consider only investing in 2, but for now I'm content with it because I want to lean more heavily in the US market and their stocks.

I will be continuing to put in $70-$100 per month depending on my paycheck and how much I need in emergency savings, but if I could get advice on how my current distribution is, what you would advise me to change, and if I should cancel my fractional buys before tomorrow and pick something else? I'm not looking to take this money out any time soon, maybe 10 years at the earliest.

I never know whether it's AI or a real human reviewing my application, or whether a job application is even real or if they're just putting it out there because they have to.

I have become pretty good at embellishing the various experiences I've had (never lied only exaggerated), and the FEW times I have gotten an interview, I get feedback that I interview extremely well.

The only problem is that landing the interview in the first place is like mission impossible.

I give up on Canada (I'm on my 50th application rn)
