Hetzner email
Does anybody use Hetzner for email ? I presume the only way is via their webhosting offerings ?

As far as I can see it is still not possible to sign into the desktop app with a passkey .
So in order to use biometrics/Windows hello to unlock the browser extension I still have to log in to the desktop app with the master password as the desktop app must be running to permit biometrics on the browser extension ? Am I correct in this or is there an easier way ?
If I have to enter the master password, that involves using an offline password manager (to have a strong master password) in the absence of passkey login. In that event am I not just as well using the offline password manager for everything ?
Tuta looks like a very nice option for email and I’m tempted to go for it.
Their posts on Reddit and blogs are holding me back somewhat. The general thrust of their posts are OK but does anybody else find their posts can feel biased and not always 100% e.g. they have a post up today about Edge dropping support for MV3 and hence U block Origin (UbO) which is technically correct but fails to mention that it is really the underlying Android Open Source Project that is dropping MV3 support and that all chromium based browsers including Brave , Vivaldi etc will eventually be forced to do the same ?
I have paid Microsoft 365 basic (not business basic).
When I use my Microsoft 365 outlook.com account can my data be used by Microsoft to train it's AI ? I have tried to read the Microsoft Privacy notice but can't get a clear answer to this.
Granted the cloud cover didn’t help but very disappointed with RTE coverage of this evenings solar eclipse. They showed pictures continuously on the news Channel but absolutely no commentary. Sky covered the eclipse very well including pictures of totality in Iceland and Spain . They also had feeds from Cork, Newquay in Cornwall and others. Surely RTE could have purchased the feed.
Update: redeemed themselves somewhat by coverage on the 9 o clock news
I've tried running Nextcloud AIO on Windows and WSL but couldn't get past installing docker - installed ok but I couldn't seem to add AIO.
I'm wondering about using an old laptop or perhaps a cheap refurbished machine to install Debian. Would you recommend installing NextCloud natively or via Docker on that setup. For now I'd be happy enough just to have it working on LAN only.
I’ve come across this provider when researching alternative email providers . Granted they are US based but given their blog about jurisdiction https://codamail.com/blog.html in many ways it seems Euro jurisdiction may not be all that is put forward as (I’m in Europe).
I reckon a lot of users just want no tracking and profile creation and in that respect are probably not too concerned about privacy from government etc .
Is anyone using Codamail and if so how is it as a service ?
Hi all,
I'm thinking of opening a paid Tuta account - I currently have a free account. A few questions I have before I subscribe.
Tuta does not work offline in the free account - is it the same in the paid version ?
In many of the posts Tuta make on reddit etc. they come across as "activists" rather than a commercial , albeit privacy first, organisation . Is this the case ?
I currently use NextCloud (hosted at GoodCloud) for calendar , notes etc . Would subscribing to Tuta just be duplication ?
Thanks in advance.

I've been researching European based password managers and apart from Proton have come across Hypervault and HeyLogin. Has anybody experience with either of these ?
Does anyone have any thoughts on Mozilla's new Thundermail. Is it a real competitor to all ad based email services. ?
I was really hoping to upload photos (manually so as to be able to select which items to backup) from Android. However I don’t see an option in the Android NextCloud app to switch off auto upload.
Apart from this the photo upload seems to be broken and keeps complaining about permissions even though i have set the requested permissions.
I’m using a hosted NextCloud (the Good Cloud).
Is there any way to only backup selected photos. The auto upload options seem to only go as far as folder level ?
Hi all. I’m just starting out with Docker and the NextCloud image. Are these safe to run ? I’m using Docker on Windows as I learn.
Some interesting points
- require authentication before autofill
- local malware can potentially expose passwords (but this is true of any password manager ? )
- limit syncing to necessary accounts only
Hi, I’m in a quandary about choosing between NextCloud and Microsoft 365 basic for personal usage.
I like the idea of sovereignty over my data in NextCloud and that it is based in Europe (as am I). In my case I’d be opting for hosted NextCloud (possibly with TheGoodCloud https://thegood.cloud/ ). For around €2 per month (annual payment) I’d get 10Gb of storage with the basic office type apps . However I’d still have to opt for an email service which is an extra cost , say another €20 or so. Apart from using NextCloud web interface as a Mail client the email wouldn’t otherwise be integrated into NextCloud - I’d also have to get an Android app for calendar etc.
With Microsoft 365 basic for approx the same €2 per month I get adfree email , 100Gb storage, all products integrated into one interface , Android and iOS apps included and also some additional security . Also I’m not sure how secure NextCloud is and certainly it is hard to imagine that TheGoodCloud/Nextcloud having the same resources available to them as would Microsoft ?
I do appreciate the privacy aspect but on the other hand Microsoft are legally bound to observing GDPR. Can anybody help convince me that NextCloud is the better option ?
So I'm a bit confused about which YubiKey I should be considering . I've tried the Yubico site's guide but I'm still unclear. I want to be able to it use with various computers but also with an iPad ( USB C) and Android phone. AM I correct in thinking that:
Thanks in advance for any help.
I wanted to check the status of my mailbox sub as I believe it is in the 30 day period after which it would be deleted. However my phone with the 2FA app has broken an although I have reverted to an older phone the 2FA app on it predates my mailbox sub by a month or two. Now I can’t get into mailbox to contact support- is there any other alternative?
