[In Progress] [17K] [Crime Thriller/Noir] The Missing Hour
Hi! I'm looking for beta readers for my debut novel, The Missing Hour.
It's set in 1978 Oregon and follows Detective Nathan Hayes as he investigates the brutal murder of an unidentified woman — a case that quickly reveals ties to an international network reaching all the way to Iceland. Forced to leave behind his partner, his captain, and the woman he loves, Hayes travels overseas to chase the man responsible, only to find himself trapped, isolated, and hunted in a country where no one is who they claim to be. It's a slow-burn procedural that turns into a survival story, with themes of dissociation, obsession, and the cost of a job that never lets go.
The book leans into atmosphere and restraint — inspired by Five Decembers by James Kestrel, along with Pierce Brown and Christopher Ruocchio's prose styles, if that gives a sense of tone.
Currently sitting at 17k words and working through the first draft. Looking for feedback — particularly on pacing (especially the transition between the Oregon and Iceland sections), character voice, and whether the emotional beats land.
Comment or DM if interested!
