Yet Another Why We OE

Had a brutal reality check today that I wanted to share with this group.

I did OE for a little over a year. It ended about one year ago when I got fired with severance. Was a gut punch for the first few days because I’ve always been a top performer. But honestly, I was happy it ended as the team was becoming toxic with a power hungry peer who really bullied me and others as he was trying to grow his influence.

A couple of months after I got let go a colleague from there reached out and we caught up. Apparently I was just the tip of the ice berg and the org ended up going on a reign of terror cleaning house of remote workers and others, including my colleague. Definitely made my ego feel better about being fired, but I was already over it. I was content focusing on my J1 and finding meaning in that work.

Well, reached out to that colleague again a year later to see where he landed and he has not been able to find work this entire time. I don’t know everything involved but sounds like he is in a really low place. For me, the way that job played out resulted in me having a bruised ego but not skipping a beat thanks to OE. For him though, brutal. This is why we OE. This is why I need to get back on the train.

Wife is away, I’m living out my fantasies

I love my wife, but also love when I get to devour some dogs. Went into tonight prioritizing chili-cheese-mustard dogs and a Chicago compromise (mustard, sports peppers, celery salt, pickle) and I wanted to try the cream cheese hot dog I saw posted on here a few weeks ago.

Did some research and turned the cream cheese dog into a half-ass version of a Seattle dog (apparently that’s a thing?). And damn, was it freaking great. Anyhow, y’all… if you haven’t done it before… throw some cream cheese on your bun and add some grilled onions and jalapeños. I’m pumped to try it with hatch Chiles which are super basic but popping off around me.

Called because the tip wasn’t enough

Woof. This is really frustrating and I just don’t get the entitlement of these people. My wife and I made a reservation six weeks ago for a date night we were really looking forward to at an austin oyster company.

I have a hearing disability and asked to be seated next to my wife so we could communicate. This is not covered by the ADA, or anything, so they did not do anything legally wrong by ignoring our request. That said, I cannot hear in a noisy environment unless I am really close to the person. I’m totally use to it. In this case though, there were seats available where we could have held a convo, but they refused us. Overall, the food was decent (not great but also not terrible), but the seating made the night hard to enjoy. I still tipped, just not as much as I usually would normally. Afterward, a manager called to complain about the tip.

Like, what? You are going to blatantly ignore me then get pissy when I tip accordingly? My wife thinks I should have just tipped based on the service, which I get, but the establishment really messed up and I will not be returning.

And how normal is it to call guests because they didn’t tip enough?

Y’all think this overripened cucumber is pickle able?

The one on the right. Don’t know how I’ve missed it the past few days but gave me quite a startle today.

Removing these handles?

Please help on removing these 1960s faucet handles. I’ve removed the center piece and a screw that was in there. No screws on the bottom or sides.

Hoping not to have to cut the pipe.

How to handle named savings accounts?

My new wife and I are in the process of consolidating all of our accounts and we’re hoping to use Schwab as our main account.

For cash savings, we are hoping to put our cash in SWVXX. We’d like to have separate instances of that savings though that can be named. For instance, “Emergency fund”, “Travel fund”, “Car fund”. Does Schwab support this or has anyone found a good way to achieve this?

Also, ideally we’d like auto investing on a weekly interval into each of these from our primary Schwab checking.
