As a Seminole County resident, I was pretty surprised with the Orange County Mayor results. Really thought that Stephanie Murphy was the obvious choice.

Obviously I didn't pay real close attention to the race since it wasn't in my county. Maybe it's just because I used to be in her district, but I really thought that Stephanie Murphy was going to be a runaway winner in Orange County. Figured her work on the January 6th commission alone would be enough to garner sufficient votes to win.

To be fair, I really know nothing about the other candidates.

$2.00 Personal Pan Pizza Promotion! ?? !

I got this push notification yesterday, but haven't been able to find anything about it and it doesn't appear to be available in the Pizza Hut app. Even trying to Google for the deal, everything that comes up is from the promotion that ended in August, 2025.

Am I supposed to be primarily using the front brakes?

Been road cycling for 15 years and I always use the front brake as my primary brake. I think when I first started riding, I heard somewhere that that's what you're supposed to do. Yes, or have I been doing it wrong all these years.

ITT: No consensus

What are some things that will make you never go back to a restaurant again, even if the food and service are decent?

For me, it's any hidden up charges. The worst was a little Mom & Pop place we went and they added $1.00 to the bill for "water service" to bring a bottle of tap water to the table. So they "get" their dollar, but then I never do back to the restaurant again. Was it really worth it to them? Especially since I just tipped a dollar less (and, yes, it was just Mom & Pop working that day) when I paid the bill.

Are there any outdoor water fill stations on campus?

Looking for a water stop for a bike ride. Anything convenient? If nothing outdoor, any building where the water fill station is near the door so I don't have to trapse through a building to fill my bottles?

Why is it so hard to find a modern saddle under 140mm?

I'm not saying there are no options out there, but the selection is significantly more limited than those over 140mm.

I went down a bit of a rabbit hole searching for a new saddle, and it seems the narrow saddles were common in the 80's and 90's, but things have gradually changed to where we now have short-nosed, wider saddles. As a guy with 103 mm sit bone distance, it's made finding a saddle challenging.

Do your jockey wheels get gunked up, or am I doing something wrong?

They're always the dirtiest part of my bike. I can lube and wipe down the chain every 100 miles and it, along with my cassette, will remain respectably clean for a month or so before I need to do a full cleaning. But I feel like I should be wiping down my jockey wheels after every ride because they get a noticeable layer of gunk on them right at the chain line (the depth that the chain goes on them). Using Finish Line dry lube in Florida.

What is gone from Orlando that makes you feel bad that the current generation doesn't get to experience it?

I moved to Orlando in the early 90's as a 20-something, single professional. My top 3:

  1. Pleasure Island

  2. The Shaq/Penny Magic years

  3. Church Street Station - Jungle Jim's, Pebbles, the Olive Garden over the street. Sloppy Joes. Howl at the Moon.

Probably some of the best years of my life.

Edit: What was the after-hours club on Lee Road? I never actually went to it, but we talked about it all the time.

Edit 2: 80 response in and no mentions of The Booby Trap????

There's no need to do a lot of research to pick out a new (shorter) stem, right?

As long as it has the right measurements for my road bike and is aluminum, alloy or carbon, I should be good? Probably going with either the EA70 or EA90 from Easton.

Anyone else not sold on the effectiveness of a bike fit?

I've only gotten one in 15 years of riding. That was about 8 years ago.

I didn't feel like anything really changed after the bike fit. Maybe I just got lucky with my set up? Seems that if you're already comfortable on your bike and are capable of identifying and making adjustments as necessary, a bike fit doesn't really do much.

I'd agree that if you're really struggling with pain or lack of comfort on the bike, a fit may be in order. But if you've set things up yourself and everything seems to be working well, is it really worth it?

Anyone suffer from Eustachian Tube Dysfunction (Clogged Ears) after an intense ride?

Doesn't happen to me often, but if I overdo it on a long, fast and/or hot ride, I'll get it where it lasts for hours after my ride. Laying on the couch and falling asleep is really the only thing that will eventually take care of it.

And it (probably along with just overall bonking) just throws me completely off. I can't talk properly because I can't hear properly. I feel like my equilibrium is off. Overall, the combination of symptoms is pretty much the shittiest I ever feel after riding a bike.

I've gotten to the point where I can pretty much feel it coming on so I can try to hydrate, take some carbs and ease up to stave it off. But if I catch it too late, even rolling home at 13mph won't save me.

The fuck are energy gels so damn expensive?

Even buying in bulk, it's hard to find energy gels for less that US$2.00 each. That's crazy, right?

What are the cheaper homemade options?

Is there any rain jacket that is actually worth it?

I've been cycling for 15 years and have never really had a "proper" rain jacket. Every time I try to use something either (a) the rain just goes through it, or (b) it is completely unbreathable and I just get soaked in sweat that can't evaporate. Either way, I end up soaking wet, so I've never found a rain jacket to be worth it.

I do have shoe covers that I'll wear in the rain and find those somewhat helpful so long as you can keep the rain from running down your legs and into the shoe covers. My feet are still going to get wet in heavy rain, but at least it can keep them from getting sloshy. Seems, at least to me, dry feet are more important than anything else in the rain.

What is the best way to carry extra stuff that you don't need on a typical ride (extra clothing, packed lunch, additional nutrition, spare tire, etc.)

I'll routinely do 60 mile rides or even 100 miles with just my standard saddle bag that holds a spare tube and a multitool. The electric pump and a few gels go in my jersey pocket along with the cellphone. But on my typical ride, I'm rarely more than 5 or 10 miles away from a convenience store.

Now I'm planning a cycling trip to an area that is a bit more remote and hilly and may be on the bike 8-10 hours per day, perhaps longer if I stop to enjoy the scenery. I don't need to carry camping gear or anything that extensive. But probably a rain jacket, thermal base layer, a spare tire, extra nutrition, maybe a packed lunch. So not a ton of stuff, but more than I'd be able to carry with my current setup.

I've got a 13 liter saddle bag like this that I've never actually used. I also have a backpack that I've used for hiking, but never taken on the bike.

Is one of those preferrable to the other? Or is there a better obvious solution that I'm missing?

What are the "can't miss" cycling overlooks between Mt. Mitchell and Cherokee?

I'm planning a bicycling trip to the Asheville area in early September and plan to ride most of the sections of the parkway between Mt. Mitchell and Cherokee while I'm there.

While putting together my routes, there are just so many overlooks. I want to try to break up the ride a bit and have various overlooks as my "next goal" to get to. I started just doing that with all the overlooks, but it's just too overwhelming and ends up with way too many interim goals of less than a mile.

So I be moving slowly and will likely pull through pretty much every overlook, but which ones do I actually include as stopping points and interim goals that are worth a little more time?

Thanks.

I hate twists, but if we're going to have them, then we deserve a Rizgod idol at some point

You don't have to call it the Rizgod idol, because even though he's the first legendary player of the new era, we've never had an idol or advantage named after any other legends of the game. But everyone would know its the Rizgod idol regardless of the name it's given.

The idol works like any other idol initially. It can be played for yourself, or anyone else, but the last time it can be played is when there are 5 players in the game. But here's the catch. If the holder of the idol makes it to final 4 while still holding the idol, that expired idol can now be exchanged for a Bic lighter (product placement opportunity) and 4 ounces of kerosene.

It would give a person who is able to navigate through the game without wasting their idol an huge advantage in fire-making at final 4. And that huge advantage could influence who ultimately gets put into fire-making.
