Could use some positive stories post nuss

I am 10 weeks post nuss procedure and I could use some positive recovery stories - especially if your recovery took longer than expected!

My recovery has taken much longer than expected due to pleural effusions, scapular winging, and diaphragm pain that just won’t seem to go away. It’s really starting to get to me and I’m worrying this might become chronic pain.

What’s she mixed with?

My 7 year old female cattle dog rescue weighs 60 pounds, and the vet says that she’s healthy. I feel like most cattle dogs weigh a lot less than that. Before we do one of those doggy DNA tests on her… anyone have any guesses for what she’s mixed with?

Seeking a Good Physical Therapist

Hi everyone! I’m looking for recommendations for a physical therapist in the area who has experience working with patients after thoracic surgery.

I’m especially hoping to find someone familiar with treating postoperative complications, particularly scapular winging. It would be a huge bonus if they’ve worked with patients who have pectus excavatum or have undergone the Nuss procedure.

If you’ve had a great experience or know of a PT with this type of expertise, I’d really appreciate any recommendations. Thank you!

Note: I went out of state for surgery so unfortunately, my surgeons office is not able to give me any recommendations and my primary care physician didn’t have any either.

Shoulder Pain Post Nuss

Hi all, I had the nuss procedure almost 5 weeks ago, and I’m now having bad shoulder pain. It feels like my shoulder is sticking out all of the time. This started a few days ago and doesn’t seem to be getting better. I’m having a hard time sleeping.

I’m wondering if it’s because of my wedge pillow and sleeping with my arms slightly forward instead of directly at my side. I’ve had to add pillows to the side of my wedge to kind of extend it but they are slightly taller than the wedge itself.

Should I wait and see or contact PCP? Any thoughts or tips appreciated.

Does anyone have the 10k Gold Filled Classic Red Bracelet from American Medical ID?

And if you do can you add a picture in the comments? Don’t forget to hide sensitive info like IC numbers and your full name! Leaning towards this one but hesitating because sometimes yellow gold can be too gold.

My doctor told me I need to order a medical ID and I want one I can wear 24/7. And if I I have to wear it all the time I want to make sure it’s something I actually like.

I tried attaching an image but it didn’t work.

Thank you!!! ☺️

Would you notice these medical ID bracelets?

Hi all, I am getting the nuss procedure in a few weeks and have been told I need a medical ID bracelet. If I’m ever needing assistance and I’m not able to speak for myself, traditional CPR and defibrillation won’t work. I’ve attached an image of the two medical IDs I’m thinking of getting. And here is what they would say-

3 TITANIUM BARS INSIDE CHEST

UNDER STERNUM

DEFIB ANTERIOR/ POSTERIOR

ABDOMINAL CPR ONLY

The Garmin ID would be my everyday one. But I’m worried it’s not obvious enough. Does it need the medical ID symbol?

I’m torn on the other two - these would be more date night, holiday, etc. I’m worried they aren’t obvious enough when pictured by themselves, but when it’s on someone it does look much more obvious.

LMK your thoughts! I plan on sharing your responses with the pectus group on fb as this is a common concern.
