How Do You Find Quality Resources For Plants?

I’m new to the hobby. I’m currently growing Monkey Masks, Corn Plant, Snake Plant, Nepenthes, palms, and one regular monstera (as far as I know). My interest in this hobby is growing as I do more and more research on plant care — especially for bioactive terrariums.

I am surrounded by a lot of plant nurseries where I live (SWFL), but I have a hard time finding one with real expertise on soil/substrate. If there is no retail opportunity, then I’ll go look at wholesale/commercial to create my own mixes in bulk.

Does anyone have any tips?

My Wife and I are Relatively New to This Hobby — are we succeeding?

Notes:
All of these plants — except the nepanthes and the orchids — are using miraclegro tropical mix. This soil is for patio/indoor plants only, and will not be used for any bioactive work I am engaging with now.

We repotted everything. We recycled the Nepanthes mix because we realized it wasn’t bad (not cakey, not soggy/mushy, not degraded or flat). We mixed it with sphagnum moss, orchid bark, perlite, and the soil it came with. We got 3 plants out of it!

We are correcting our errors and are now priming our tap water before spraying our plants. I believe my Nepanthes was getting sick, but the humidity and sun is why he’s so happy.

Our monkey masks are super easy to propagate. No worries there. They wre my favorite out of all my plants.

The ferns and the palms are new. We repotted them from their awful 4oz nursery pots. The palms are awesome, very hardy. The ferns, obviously, more sensitive, but it’s being revived!

My corn plant is just corning. I don’t know. It doesn’t seem to care about growing upwards, so many I’m doing something wrong?

I’d love any suggestions on improving. I also wish I could aboid fertilizers, but I can’t find anything affordable. My goal is eventually add some of these to my Ball Python’s 4x2x2 Terrarium.

How Do I Tell My Manager “I don’t like my role, and I plan to return to my previous BU?”

How Do I Tell My Manager “I Hate My Job, and I Plan to Return Back to My Old BU”?

I am Sr. Individual Contributor at my F500 organization, and I moved from a client facing role into an operations role 9 months ago. I’ve been with the company for 4 years and have established relationships with previous BUs and colleagues. I’ve proven my value by my ability to support client retention and build Low Code Applications that enhance productivity/impact for client retention.

This skillset/experience is how I was introduced and ultimately interviewed for the role I am in now. I hate it. I hate how I only work through spreadsheets all day; I hate that people who’ve never met with clients in their lives are determining strategy for client-facing associates; I hate the lack of well documented Projects/Programs, the lack of agency I have to be effective, and the politics — GOD I hate the politics. Insufferable how people will push work onto you and pull the fun stuff for them. I don’t believe in this mission space, how it’s operating, and the culture surrounding it.

I’ve been hinting to my manager that I don’t want to remain in this role, but I think he’s trying to convince me to stay. We’re already down a man, and we’re a three man team. With me leaving, he has 3-4x the workload, and he’s at the associate director level. I don’t hate my manager, to be clear — I just hate how transactional everything and everyone is over here.

I have my Mid Year Review at EOM, and I want to be straight up with him: “I am not enjoying the workflow or workload of this role, and I plan to transition out once I achieved my 1yr mark (internal mobility requirement). I’m afraid he is trying to avoid this, and I don’t want him to. I have directors and BU Leaders asking for me back in a client-facing / program manager role to continue working with clients and building tools for the BU specifically (rather than at the enterprise level).

What can I do? Have you seen circumstances like this before and how does it play out in the end?

Any Emo/Punk/Alt Bars Around?

Hi Canada!

My wife and I are visiting for a week (Mid 20s) and want to know if there’s any emo scene in Banff. We’d love to meet folks, have a good time enjoying the nature, smelling the roses, gardening, and stuff.

If there isn’t something like this, what do the mid 20yos do to have fun?
