transcript/marksheet

Hey everyone,

I'm applying for a scholarship and have a question about transcripts.

My university won't issue the official consolidated transcript until after the document submission deadline. I've already completed all of my semesters, though, and I have the official marksheet for every semester, along with a Certificate of Expected Graduation.

Would it be acceptable if I get all of the semester-wise marksheets and the expected graduation certificate apostilled and submit those instead?

I only recently realized there's a difference between a consolidated transcript and individual semester marksheets. Unfortunately, my university issues both the final degree certificate and the consolidated transcript only during the graduation/convocation ceremony, which takes place after the scholarship deadline.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? Did scholarship board or your university accept semester-wise marksheets in place of a consolidated transcript? Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated.

How’s experience with international shipping?

Hey guys, I have some set of documents that I’ve to send abroad. These are the options available. So I’ve seen few reviews that India post doesn’t usually pickup docs from home. Do you think it’s reliable if I just go to office and figure this out? And both of these options show 3-5 days and different costs. I believe EMS is some speed post service - do you recommend it? I wanna make sure it reaches within 4 days at max.

is this ethical and moral?

Hey everyone,

I wanted to get some perspective on an incredibly stressful situation I’m dealing with regarding an unpaid, remote research internship at a major institute in Asia! (One of the top institutes, I repeat)

I was working on an algorithm for a lab. It was 100% unpaid and remote. A few weeks in, due to personal circumstances, I realized I couldn't continue. I actually emailed the professor/PI directly to let them know I was withdrawing from the internship.

The professor acknowledged my email but wanted to schedule a follow-up meeting to discuss it. At that point, feeling overwhelmed with my other commitments, I didn't respond to the meeting request and one remaining follow-up communication. I get that ghosting the meeting wasn't the best way to handle it, and I take responsibility for that lapse.

However, the institution's response (student services/manager) feels like a massive, retaliatory overreach.

Instead of just sending a formal termination email - which they have every right to do since it's an unpaid, voluntary role - they went out of their way to find and email an external academic mentor of mine. This mentor has absolutely nothing to do with this internship, didn't sign any institutional agreements, and was not listed as an emergency contact or official university coordinator for this role. There is nowhere in any agreement stating they could contact my references or external connections for attendance issues.

In the email to my mentor, they explicitly detailed that I "blocked contact channels," accused me of leaving them with a "sudden gap in the project," and asked my mentor to intervene. They tried to frame it as "ensuring I'm alright," but it reads like a blatant attempt to damage my academic standing and use my professional network as leverage.

Like... what the hell? They knew I was withdrawing. They had full rights to just terminate the internship and move on. Is it ever ethical or normal for a lab to hunt down external professional connections to report an unpaid intern just because they didn't show up to an exit meeting?

How would you even begin to handle damage control with a mentor who received an email like this?

Affordable neighbourhood

My girlfriend and I will be in Taiwan for less than a year and ended up at different universities 😅 I'll be at TMU Shuang Ho, while she'll be at Chang Gung University.

We're looking for a feasible area/district to live together that would keep commuting reasonable for both of us. Our budget is around NT$10–15k/month. Any recommendations on neighborhoods, MRT-accessible areas, or places we should look into (or avoid)?

Thanks in advance!

looking for expertise in mass spec analysis and machine learning

Hey everyone, we have been recently working on biomarker detection using mass spec data (maldi tof) and machine learning algorithm. So we have pipeline and all setup, looking for someone who could help us refine the manuscript - basically I am in my final year undergraduate program and I’m working with a person working in an IT company - we did as much as we can. We got a few comments and revisions from internal reviewers. I mean - they’re from the lab where I interned before - that’s where the data is from. So looking for someone who has expertise in understanding code or understanding basic mass spec data and analysis and could help refine manuscript. And authorship will be given, obviously! ❤️❤️ please lmk

Virtual screening

hey everyone..

I was just wondering if anyone here working on ML/DL/AI + drug discovery..

how are you actually doing large scale virtual screening?

feels like industry pipelines are all gatekept, and in academia we’re just piecing things together with whatever works

what are you guys using / what’s actually working?

Hey everyone,

I’m moving to Auckland in a few months and will be working at the University of Auckland. I’m single and looking for a studio or 1BHK apartment/house as cheap as possible while still being in a decent area with easy transport to the university.

I’d love recommendations on:

  • Best neighbourhoods/suburbs to live in
  • Areas that are affordable but still safe
  • Places with good bus/train connectivity to UoA
  • Whether most rentals come furnished or unfurnished
  • Any areas I should avoid

I’m okay living a bit outside the CBD if transport is reliable and the rent is cheaper. Also curious if it’s better to flat/share initially instead of renting solo. Also, any landlords or trusted sites would be helpful!

Would really appreciate any advice from locals or students/academics there. Thanks!
