Help for girlfriend culturally

My girlfriend is African American, sorry to step my way with such a random question. Basically I wanted to find resources for practices and cultures you can do as an African American. This is for my girlfriend, she has mentioned a couple times watching me explore my culture and my heritage and participate in things makes her wish she could be more into her culture herself. Some things I know about but not much that I have mentioned to her is stuff like Elukami, and I know of Tutnese, when learning my native language she seem super interested so i mentioned to her that Tutnese exist just for her: And some books of course. I didn’t know where to find the resources I could provide to her so I’d thought I’d ask her if that’s okay?

Thank you

Let’s talk 1/8, Diaspora, and Culture 🥥

I’ve seen a few forums on this, and have some friends that fit here too.

The experience of someone who is only 1/8 mixed. Obviously this is all a personal opinion and based off my life. I identity with my 1/8 heavily, for reasons. I wasn’t raised with much of my culture, just some foods and items brought over, but as I got older I took it upon myself to become intermediate into my native language; celebrate my culture (all of it, books, celebrations, experiences with other family’s and groups) while also sharing it to my family who are also Asian. I personally have beat the idea of “not being Asian enough” in a way where to if someone tells I’m not Asian or Asian enough, I call them a colonizer💀. I still feel white passing of course at times, I’ll put a photo, I’ve been noticed as mixed by those who aren’t Asian, and white by those who are Asian 😭 kinda funny fr; I knew I had some type of experience when I faced racism on multiple counts of “jokes” and such.

I see a lot of hate on others who shame those for how much Asian they are, I understand if you have no interest into learning your culture + you make racist jokes. ATP you are just whatever the other side of you is. But I’ve discussed even with full Asian friends who agree, why diminish people who are mixed especially 1/8? Everyone will end up mixed one day and there’s nothing we can do so why not just accept, as one of my friend says the only race is the human race <—- 💯.

This whole post I guess is to hear others opinions and experiences as being 1/8 mixed, I’m curious about cultural disconnection and your choices to feel comfortable to identify or learn what you are.
My whole genetic history is a chaotic scene of a melting pot, so it’s very interesting but I basically ended up European, Asian; and the tiny slither of African American (which I do not identify with obviously, but claim heritage to it as mother is blasian).

But everyone who is 1/8 let’s hear your opinion and experiences, and those who aren’t I just wanna hear your Opinions also 🤷‍♂️.

(For a better idea of what I am, I’d say 6/8 European, 1/8 Ryukyuan, 1/8 African American \[easier to just round up and explain than some extreme %\]) if we are talking %, weirdly enough I ended up with about 1/4 dna wise 🤷‍♂️ DNA is weird but I don’t associate dna with identity and culture so… but anyone Ryukyuan in here what’s up (that’s also a whole other convo; Ryukyuan mixed is a lot more accepted in the diaspora just from war; and the oppression and lost of our culture, that any learning is needed)

If anyone is curious on how I look dm me

Intresting identity and being mixed 🤔

I am 1/8 Uchinachu (Ryukyuan), about 20% if we are talking percentages, DNA is weird, my aunt is almost 40% and then my uncle is around the same as me 🤷‍♂️. It was a big disconnect culturally just over time as people passed, but me and other family members same age and mixed, all practice the culture and languages together; we got together and decided the stuff that was passed down wasn’t enough to feel connected and we took it in our our hands to learn. But still sometimes me, and my cousins feel not Asian enough, to white almost, we all have faced racism, sometimes people can tell I’m Asian, sometimes they cannot, it’s just random. Just curious on everyone’s opinions on this

1/8 mixed identity struggles🤔

Those who are a 1/8 mixed and claim it proudly, how do you feel you fit in (culturally and ethnically).
I am 1/8 Uchinachu (Ryukyuan), about 20% but claim it. It was a big disconnect culturally just over time as people passed, but me and other family members same age and mixed, all practice the culture and languages together, + we all have faced racism, sometimes people can tell I’m Asian, sometimes they cannot 🤷‍♂️
