I’m curious if anyone here works for a DOT regulated position and still smokes off the clock. Is it too risky?

I’m moving to a new state in July, but I don’t have a job lined up yet. My current company does not have a location there and I’m so sick of this type of work I don’t want to return to it. I’m not sure the best way to do job searches and applications because I still have two months before I’ll be there. Is there anything I can do besides just starting applications 2-3 weeks before my move in date? I don’t want to start out with no job.

I’m planning on working 10-15 hours a week with uber just to get extra cash. But my best availability for it (weekend mornings, 6/7A-11A/1P) isn’t the most profitable times from what I’ve looked into. I’ve dabbled a bit in rideshare and food delivery before and rideshare is a much less stressful job for me. I understand these hours are rough especially for the full time drivers, but would those times still be able to make me a few hundred each month?
