What’s a witty, unexpected comeback to someone saying “Do you know who I am?” I don’t want the usual “if you have to ask…” type answer. I’m looking for something creative, sharp, and unpredictable — more clever than aggressive.

Feeling like I can see, but my brain isn’t processing what I’m looking at?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently tapering antidepressants and I’ve been dealing with a strange visual/cognitive symptom that’s hard to explain.

It’s not exactly that I can’t see. My eyes are open, objects are there, and I can technically see them — but it feels like my brain is not processing the visual information properly or fast enough.

The best way I can describe it:

I look at something, but it doesn’t “register” normally

it feels like I’m seeing, but my brain is delayed or disconnected

lights feel too bright or overwhelming

sometimes light feels like it “hits” me but my brain doesn’t process it properly

visual snow/static is more noticeable

increased light sensitivity / photophobia

trouble focusing visually on objects

derealization-like feeling, as if the world is visually present but mentally distant

brain fog and slower information processing

It’s especially noticeable after stimulation like screens, gaming, scrolling, stress, or overthinking. It can feel like my nervous system gets overloaded, and then vision/light/processing become weird.

Has anyone experienced this during antidepressant tapering or withdrawal?

Did it feel like a visual problem, a derealization problem, or more like brain processing lag?

Did it improve with time, holding the dose, reducing screen stimulation, or anything else?

90-100 HR

Hi everyone,

I’m currently tapering vortioxetine/Brintellix and I seem to be very sensitive to dose reductions. My last drop was from around 3.8 mg to 2.8 mg.

Since then I’ve been getting episodes that feel like autonomic overactivation. Sometimes I can be mentally calm, just sitting or lying down, but my body suddenly feels “switched on.”

Current pattern:

heart rate feels “stuck” around 90–100 while lying/resting

when standing, it can stay around 115–120

chest feels heavy/pressed

burning sensation inside the chest

shallow/mechanical breathing

overall feeling unwell, like my body is in overdrive

sometimes derealization/brain fog and internal tension

symptoms can come in waves.

I’ve had repeated normal cardiac checks in the past, including ECGs and echocardiogram, so I’m not mainly asking “is this my heart?” I’m trying to understand whether this kind of “stuck pulse + chest pressure/burning + internal activation” can happen during antidepressant tapering / withdrawal / autonomic dysregulation.

Has anyone experienced something similar during SSRI/SNRI/vortioxetine tapering, especially where the body feels activated even when the mind isn’t panicking?

Did it improve with holding the dose longer, slower tapering, hydration/salt, reducing stimulation, or anything else?

10 years on antidepressants and every small taper feels like my nervous system is short-circuiting

I’ve been on psychiatric meds for around 10 years and have tried escitalopram, fluvoxamine, venlafaxine, sertraline, vortioxetine and others. I was on sertraline up to 100 mg and tapered off slowly. Vortioxetine was used as a buffer around 4 mg, and now I’m around 3 mg after reducing from 4 mg.

Every reduction seems to trigger delayed symptoms, usually worse around day 8–14: intense inner agitation/akathisia-like restlessness, brain fog, derealization/depersonalization, vivid dreams, morning intrusive thoughts, burning/tingling sensations, numbness-like feelings in limbs, muscle twitches/fasciculations, nausea, OCD-like fear loops and chest/sternum tightness.

One of the strangest symptoms is a racing heartbeat that stays around 90–100 bpm at rest and does not easily come down, even when I don’t feel anxious. It appears randomly during tapers, often fades after 3–4 weeks after a reduction, but feels almost chronic when I reduce every 3 weeks. Benzos don’t really stop it, and it usually settles at night if I don’t take a beta blocker. I’ve been checked many times by cardiologists, but I still fear “this time is different” and that it could be heart-related.

I also get badly overstimulated from longer stimulation like PvP games, doomscrolling, arguments or too much screen time. During it I feel this internal pressure/urgency, like my nervous system is rushing to finish something under a deadline. After I stop, I feel derealized, foggy, tense and mentally awful, like my system overheated and can’t calm down.

I’m very sensitive to medication changes and small reductions feel huge to me. I’m not asking for a diagnosis, just wondering if others had similar withdrawal/adaptation symptoms from tapering SSRIs/vortioxetine after long-term use and how long it took to stabilize.
