Two suggestions regarding the brush.

I would love to have an option where I could use a brush as a selection tool. It would be great for selecting intricate areas smoothly-more fluid than the free select option.

The second suggestion is I would like to be able to toggle the brush size between image pixels and screen pixels. That way, if you're using the brush at let's say forty pixels, and you zoom in, the brush stays at forty pixels on the screen allowing you to focus in on much smaller section of the image without having to manually resize the brush.

These are not my original ideas. it is how it works in Luminar. It makes it very convenient to zoom in and out of a photo and create a selection that is both large in places and intricately detailed around the edges.

The attached video shows just how convenient that feature is when selecting the face on this grotesque.

REVISED: Two great features about GIMP I did not know about.

I just made my annual donation-have you?

GIMP makes my photo editing so much easier, and I am able to achieve what I want thanks to this program. I know a lot of people want things for free and are willing to sit through pop-ups and ads to do it. I would rather give my money for something that I find worthwhile.
I had an old version of Photoshop with a license I paid for that worked fine until they went to their subscription program. I'm just an amateur - what I do is not worth their program and pay wall.

Thank you GIMP for helping to make it worth my while to lug around a full-size camera when I travel.

Number two? On my wish list: update Catalog button?

I think other people have alluded to this in other situations, but here's are examples where changes you make don't seem to "stick" and be available right away. Other times the catalog just seems out of whack occasionally. I can see why constantly updating the catalog could overload somebody's system, so maybe there should be a manual catalog update option instead of having to close the program.

First, a simple example. This is not a serious problem, but could result in some occasional confusion. As in this case when I'm trying to set up photos to make a panorama. The catalog is sorted by Edits/Descending. The center photo is actually the last one edited, but in order to show that, you have to go up to the menu and reselect sort options:

After editing 1795

Now it's where it should be

Here is a more significant situation. I make a pano of the first two photos above. Notice in the catalog preview they are both pretty much the same luminosity, etc. But when I make the pano you get this:

Notice the dark difference where the photos overlap.

Now, to emphasize the effect, I go back into 1795 and overexpose it:

How it looks in the catalog.

But when I now make a pano of the same two photos, I get the same as the previous result. It completely ignores my last edit

Exact same result.

Even after closing and reopening the program I still get the exact same result. So I am not really sure what the problem is, but I don't see how that overexposed photo on the left could continue to come out looking so dark in the panorama.

Number one on my NEO wish list-viewing subfolders (or not viewing them)

In general, most (all?) of the gripes I have about Neo involve a lack of options or defaults. The inability to customize the program to suit the individual user. Here is number one on my list:

I work hard to keep my files organized, because I confess it's not my strong suit.

I would like to have the option to view files in a root directory without seeing files in the subdirectory, unless I actually select that subdirectory. This is a really big one for me-it really screws with my work flow.

For example, let's say I have a folder marked called Istanbul with 203 raw files and it. I load that into Neo, then work on say 40 of them. I then export those 40 as TIF files. to keep things clean I don't want to create a separate folder, I would like to put them in a subfolder called "Good ones", or something like that. But with the current state of folder management in Neo,when I look at the root folder I would see all 243 files. I know I can sort them by file type or edit time, but it would just be nice to keep them separate.

Consider an additional example: Instead of "Good ones", suppose I want to create subsets by category. Mosques, Landscapes, Statuary, etc. That seems like a reasonable thing for a photographer to want to do. Putting them all in subfolders would make accessing them in Neo extremely painful. But the alternative is to have a bunch of separate folders, instead of keeping everything organized under the one main category of "Istanbul".

That's my main beef. What's yours?

Toolbox question

It has been a few weeks since I have used GIMP. I did a complete refresh of my PC and reinstalled GIMP. I notice a change in the toolbox-I swear the toolbox-tool options and the layers menu were attached as one pop-up window. Am I missing something? I can't seem to get it back to that state .

Thanks!

3 monitor setup - Desktop icons invisible on 1 monitor only

https://preview.redd.it/ajgyj5ae7h4h1.jpg?width=7680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=96106e140bf69016264e81a488078041c81f457a

Here's one for you:

Recently, I booted my computer and found that all of my icons had disappeared from the main screen and auto-arranged themselves onto the other two monitors (even though I don't use auto-arrange). I can drag icons back to the main screen, but they are not visible. If I move my mouse around, I can still find and select them where I dragged them.

I've been using this setup for about 2 years. This started happening just a couple of days ago. I didn't change any settings, though there were a couple of security updates installed five days ago.

3 Monitors identified:

Entire Desktop showing:

Icons are there - just invisible:

If I make Monitor 1 the Main monitor it fixes it. I tried moving monitors, switching cables, resetting the icon cache, etc. Then I even did a clean Windows install ( I thought it deserved it).

After moving monitors I have this now:

Same issue, but if I make Monitor 3 the main window, icons are invisible on 1 AND 3.

This just seems crazy.

Any ideas?

My icons get swallowed up by the main screen

One day recently I booted my computer and all of the icons were gone from my main screen and auto-arranged on the other 2 (I don't use auto-arrange). I can drag icons to the screen, but they are not visible. If I wander around with my mouse I will find icons where I dragged them to.

This just started happening a couple of days ago. I did not change any settings. There were a couple of security updates 5 days ago, nothing else.

Active 2 Charging problem

My Active 2 has been great, but suddenly has developed a charging issue. It will only charge if I hold it pressed down against the charger. I have several chargers, including the original that came with it, and they all act the same way-so it's not the charger. I have not done anything to possibly damage the back of it. I tried cleaning it with a lens wipe but that did not help. has anyone else experienced this? I presume it will be covered under warranty as I have only had it since September.

Windows 11-I got home from a long trip and updated GIMP to 3.2.4. Batcher was gone. I looked it up and they had an update for that also. I deleted the old one and installed the new one in every plug-in directory I could find, but still nothing. There is a comment about making sure gimp is Python enabled. I don't quite get how to do that but, it worked before so I presume it was.

I'm dying here because without being able to save individual layers my workflow is sunk. And I'm still wondering why there isn't just a built-in option when everything else gimp does with layers is just so wonderful.

Thanks for anyone can who can help me.
