Craft Connections Beverage Education Summit 2027

Craft Connections Beverage Education Summit 2027

Hello all!

I am one of the co-founders of a brand new mini conference or summit coming to Tempe AZ in February 2027 called Craft Connections where the mission is to give craft beer and cider education a front row seat from industry folks. The goal is empower people to become better educated at a time when the beverage industry could use as much strength as possible - and we'd love to see you there in some capacity. You can find more information at our website here

We’re looking for speakers who can provide actionable tools, real-world strategies, and engaging education techniques that industry professionals can immediately bring back to their teams, taprooms, and hospitality spaces.

Below are some guiding topic ideas; feel free to expand, combine, or pitch something entirely new that aligns with our mission.

Staff Education & Training

Building Confident Sellers:
How to train staff to confidently recommend and sell craft beer and cider without sounding scripted or overwhelming guests.

Designing an Education Program That Actually Works:
Creating structured, repeatable training systems for your team, whether you’re starting from scratch or refining an existing program.
(Bonus: dual perspective from both beer and cider educators.)

Certification Pathways & Professional Development:
Breaking down programs like Cicerone Certification Program, WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust), and Pommelier, how to support staff through them and integrate that knowledge into daily service.

Teaching Styles Without Intimidation:
Translating beer and cider styles into approachable, guest-friendly language your staff can actually use on the floor.

Service Mechanics That Matter:
Faucets, draft systems, and pouring techniques, what your staff should know and how it impacts guest experience and product quality.

Glassware & Service Rituals:
The history, purpose, and practical application of glassware, and how to turn service into a memorable guest experience.

From Idea to Execution: Hosting Ticketed Events
Key components of building successful beer/cider dinners, classes, and ticketed experiences that drive revenue and guest engagement.

Sensory Learning & Guest Experience

Running a Guided Tasting That Engages:
How to structure tastings that are interactive, educational, and enjoyable for a wide range of guests.

Teaching Flavor Vocabulary (Beer & Cider):
Helping staff and customers articulate what they’re tasting, without intimidation.
(Separate sessions for beer and cider encouraged.)

Pairing Principles for Real Service Environments:
How to build food and beverage pairings that are practical, profitable, and easy for staff to communicate tableside.

Off-Flavor Training for Front-of-House Teams:
Teaching staff to identify common flaws and handle quality concerns confidently and professionally.

Interactive Sensory Workshops:
Hands-on sessions focused on ingredients, processes, or styles—designed to build deeper sensory awareness.

Comparative Tasting: Beer vs. Cider
Exploring crossover flavors, production differences, and how to guide guests through both categories with confidence.

What We’re Looking For

We’re especially interested in sessions that:

  • Prioritize real-world application over theory
  • Help attendees educate their teams and customers more effectively
  • Focus on hospitality, storytelling, and guest connection
  • Offer interactive or experiential components

Interested in Speaking?

If one of these topics (or your own idea) resonates with you, we’d love to hear from you.

Please send your proposal to:

Any local writing groups or meet ups?

I'm someone who enjoys creative writing and was wondering if there are any organized writing meet ups in the Oakland area but willing to BART a bit for the right (or write) one.

Especially if they meet Sunday-Tuesday because those will be my days off or when I finish work on the earlier side.

Officially 100 pounds down!

I officially hit 100 pounds lost today and couldn’t be happier!!

Started my journey end of November 2024 at 412lbs and feeling discouraged, and still working to get under 300 . I’m thinking 280 or so would be a great goal weight for now!

It’s been an up and down journey as I had to get off Tirzepatide pens due to lack of insurance coverage in the new year, was off 12.5 for a month. Got on 7.5 pen, was off that for a month, then was able to get access to compounded vials and have been back on that regularly since mid march!

Feels really great to have put the work in along with walking a lot more.

Store with the best local beer selection in Oakland, Berkeley, or Albany?

I just moved out to Oakland and am a big beer aficionado. I'm looking for stores that have the most expansive selection of beer, especially if you can buy them in single cans/mix and match.

Not looking for big box stores like TW or grocery stores, but smaller places or hidden gems.

Best "Industry night" deals?

I Just moved to Oakland work in the beer industry. I'm mostly going to have Sundays-Mondays off and curious where some of the best or most fun Industry nights are?

I live over near Temescal/Longfellow but happy to hop around on transit or BART for the coolest spots!

Best place to buy men's plus size light jacket?

Hi there!

I'm 5'9...315, on a weight loss journey and want to treat myself to a nice clothing piece when I hit 300 pounds. I'm looking for something like a light evening jacket - not a blazer or sports coat, not a wind breaker - something more like a golf jacket or something I can wear out and about.

I'm in the Bay Area and the summer evenings can be cooler so I'm looking for something to use in place of a sweater. I've tried DXL and Kohls and haven't found anything to my liking.

Ideally a 2XL or 3XL size. Thank you!

Hi Oakland Reddit community!

I'm a 37yo Male who just moved to Oakland for a new job and though I grew up in Sonoma County and went to college in the city - I'm wholly unfamiliar with Oakland and the surrounding areas. I'd love to get to know some folks (I hate using MeetUp.com) and also get a grasp on if there are any websites, blogs, etc I should be aware of for events happening around the East Bay?

Few things I enjoy:

  • Exploring the arts: comedy shows, live bluegrass and jazz, theatre, mural art.
  • Happy Hours
  • Love Thai food, Italian, tapas.
  • Big beer fan and work in the industry so familiar enough with the Oakland area breweries.
  • Farmers markets, makers markets/craft fairs, local festivals.
  • Bookstore Browsing.

If you have suggestions for any of these around Oakland (Or Berkeley) and/or share some common interests - let me know! I don't really know anyone in the area and while my work schedule is going to be into the evenings I'll still have flexibility to meet up - especially if there's a later at night Trivia game going on!

Hear me out: Arrogant players and ones who show bravado are actually good for the game and the health of reality tv.

I for one, enjoy them. I don't see why a huge majority of all Survivor fans get up in arms when someone displays a cocky attitude or proclaims 'I'm the best', and I'm genuinely curious why.

Someone on a thread here last week said that "Ok villains are good but only the type of villains that are fun to watch". I mean - aren't all villains fun to watch? Russell Hantz was great to watch for his demolition of the Idol strategy and to root against BECAUSE of his Bravado.

But there are players like Gabe, Jonathan, and others recently who are loud, cunning, or 'in your face' - and I think they're great for the game. They provide an antithesis to the sly social strategists, or the total "Big move" gamers.

John Cochran in his other seasons after his first one came off pretty condescending at times to me - but you don't see his name dragged through the mud - why is that?

Plus, don't we see that all the online noise yelled about "Rick Deven's is too flashy", or "Jonathan is too in Dee's face", is actually doing just what Survivor wants the community to do and provide conversation and discourse? It's helpful for the health and longevity of the game, so personally I want to see more of these types of players come through and do well.

I started a new job yesterday and wanted to go and post it to my feed so I could write a celebratory post, but on neither my mobile app or browser is it working. Anyone experience similar or have any ideas?

I did update my new job, and the notification box about "notify others that you've started a new position" or however it reads box was checked and said it may take two hours to update. But this was yesterday (4/27) at noon, and still nothing.

Is there something else outside of just writing a post I should be looking at? Any help appreciated!
