Threw brand new plug, carb, fuel hoses and filter on the old tohatsu 2 stroke 5hp. She was bogging and dying with any load over idle on the lake. Seems to be much happier now. If only it wasnt 100 degrees out we’d be out on a water test in the lakes. Last video was about as much as i could get out of her part throttle before replacing everything. It would bog and stall even at that speed.
Picked up this tohatsu m5b from a guy who got it in a storage auction. Fires right up, runs well, had to take some welding wire and clean out the tell tale and now have flow. My question is it enough
Just picked this up on trade, fires right up but noticed it barely dribbles out of the pee hole. Motor has been sitting in storage for many years with the previous owner knowing nothing about it (bought at storage unit auction). Does this look to be an issue with the impeller on the water pump?
EDIT found crud in the exhaust water port cleaned it up and got some flow posted a video in comments is that enough flow?
Project barter boat has an engine. Traded for this mint 2 stroke 5hp tohatsu. Got it home, threw a cap full of 2 stroke in her and on the second pull she fired off. Now to get a tank and make sure she’s ready to get a load put on her.
Got a chance this week to get new bunks made, brackets to lift and angle them to fit the boat better. Still need to move everything back now a little. Also relocated the batteries for the transom mounted trolling motor to a sub floor i made under the casting deck. Still need to refine it more but for an hour this morning i’d call it not a bad start
As title says noticed this morning my bow eye hook has snapped. Should i just get it weld back or replace the eye itself? Looked quickly and didnt find much as far as replacements that would work well on the V in the bow. Any suggestions on replacements
For those that remember my post, traded a mig welder fir this 12ft jon boat, 55# thrust 24v trolling motor. Picked up a trailer this weekend for $200 that i need to modify a bit. Did notice a very small amount of water getting in slowly after about an hour. So need to marine seal my transom area to hopefully stop that. Also adding a small bilge just in case. Sadly i think she needs more gusto so thinking an outboard is the way to go.
Traded an old mig welder for this jon boat, came with 2 troller motors (one bow and one transom). So the guy didnt seem to know much especially considering he has provided 1 12v100ah battery when the Vevor trolling motor is a 24v setup. So my question is, do i snag another battery to make the 24v setup work (only going to be fishing ponds, lakes, and slow rivers) or do i take that $170 to match the current battery and just grab a minnkota 12v setup. Was planning on just using the 50# troller to get around since most of these lakes have engine restrictions. Main concern is not trying to break the bank, so wasnt really considering doing dual LI batteries, but am a bit concerned about weight and where i would even put these 2 batteries.
Loaded some 190gr subx today for load development in my 8” 300blk, originally bought 220gr spire points but after some research looks like my 1:5 twist barrel wouldn’t like those. So pivoted and grabbed some h110, loaded at 9.6gr and coal of 2.050 to start. Once my chronograph comes in i can see how they preform and tweak from there. A bit worried with it being that short and that much twist that i’m going to be chasing velocity for a while before i can trust throwing the suppressor on
Getting ready to load up my first run of subsonic 300blk, using berrys 220gr spire points, cfeblk powder. Seeing alot of varying charges from 10.2gr to 12.3gr from different manuals. 2026 hodgdon manual only has one charge in the subsonic category of 10.2gr where the sierra 220gr data calls for starting at 11.3gr. I would think starting at the 10.2 and seeing how it cycles is the move. Shooting through a psa mixtape, 8.5” 1:5 twist with an agb and sico omega 300 suppressor.
Secondly every manual has a differing primer some say remington 7 1/2 others say winchester sr (which i have a ton of). Will it be an issue running the WSR’s instead of the remington 7 1/2’s since they are hard to come by locally.
Did my first 50 rds of 223 55gr loaded with 25gr of cfe223 running wsr primers. Was given this rsbs rock chucker setup by a family friend. So far it’s been an amazing addition to my love for my shooting hobby
Finally got my hands on one locally for a nice price, now to see how it stacks up to my p229 legion and p320 x carry
