Help! What is happening to my nails?????

My middle finger was slammed in a car door years ago. In recent years the nail has a tendency to split down the middle; often into the nail bed which has forced me to cut it shorter and shorter over the years. Sometimes I have had to file the whole nail back to the point of bleeding so that there’s no opportunity for snagging which would force the split even further down the nail bed.
Gel polish has offered some structure, but the nail would still split and snag.

In the last 4 years I have been working as a chemist and at a local pool. I always wear gloves, but my nails are noticeably weaker than ever (think bendy like a slice of cheese). Not painting or getting my nails done makes little difference. I recently discovered silk wraps (Swiss silk with pre applied adhesive) and this seemed to help structurally. My nails are longer than they’ve been in ages. This seemed to help immensely, until today.

I just removed my gel polish to see that my nail is connected to very little of the bed and the split, which was previously a faint line, is now distinctly pale.
WTF is happening??? Am I going to lose my nail?

Note: I have been using Beetles gel polish and Vitagel Strength base coat. I rarely do my nails, but have been doing designs at home. And I sanitize my tools in heavy duty Lysol disinfectant.

Cabot Mac and Cheese Deshittification

I managed to deshittify the Cabot mac. TLDR at the bottom.

I never buy boxed mac and cheese with the powder, but my local grocer had a sale and I figured “why not?” The first time I had it my mind was blown. It’s the best powdered mac and cheese I’ve ever had. I bought a bunch, and then out of nowhere the stores near me stopped carrying it.

I saw the enshittification post and decided to see if I could find some boxes with the old recipe. The Walmart website still shows the old recipe, so I ordered a 12pk in the hopes that it would be the original. It wasn’t.

This was the first time I had tried the new recipe and was deeply disappointed (contact customer service level disappointed).

Last night I decided to try and zhuzh it up. I’ll keep experimenting, since I still have 10 boxes, but the results were near perfect.

I salted the pasta water and slightly uncooked the noods, then saved a little pasta water. Used 2T of butter, 3T of heavy cream, and 1 slice of white American cheese, and the cheese packet to make the sauce. I added the pasta to the sauce and let it cool slightly before adding 2T of sour cream to give it that sharp tang. The flavor is almost identical. Maybe a little plain Greek yogurt for extra tanginess would help, I’ll try that with the next box.

TLDR: the new Cabot sucks. See the last paragraph for instructions on how to make it taste like the original. And be sure to call/email and complain about the quality, because fuck them for ruining a great product.

Waited too long to eat and now my tummy is too upset for anything other than simple carbs (instant mash and buttered noodles), chicken broth, and gingerale.

What level of hell would dealing with Xfinity customer service be?
