If you had control of the Back Door for a week...

If you had control of the Back Door for a week...

...where in the world would you go?

Would you see some world landmarks like the Great Wall of China, the Eiffel Tower in France, the Great Pyramids? Or would you abscond to a tropical island to swim in the ocean? Would you whisk away to top of a mountain to see the clouds from above?

Or would you visit that far-away loved one you never seem to have the time or money to get to?

Fire up your imagination while I fire up the back door. The world is waiting. Take us on a journey, Librarians.

Creature Casebook: The Chupacabra

THE ORIGINS

Unlike ancient legends, the Chupacabra (which translates to "goat-sucker") is a modern cryptid. The myth originated in Puerto Rico in March 1995, following a sudden wave of mysterious livestock deaths where animals were discovered completely drained of blood.

The First Records: The spoken-word accounts and initial local news reports were driven heavily by an eyewitness named Madelyne Tolentino in Canóvanas, Puerto Rico. Her description of a bipedal, alien-like creature with spikes down its back was broadcast internationally, establishing the creature's core look.

The Evolution: When the myth quickly spread to Mexico and the Southwestern United States, the physical description shifted entirely from a spiked, bipedal alien to an uncharacteristic, hairless, canine-like beast.

The Reality: Biologists and wildlife officials who captured alleged physical specimens of the "canine" Chupacabra discovered that they were actually real coyotes, foxes, or feral dogs suffering from severe cases of sarcoptic mange. The parasite causes hair loss, skin thickening, and severe fatigue, explaining their bizarre appearance and why they targeted easy-to-catch livestock instead of wild prey.

In the Library: Despite the earthly explanations, our favourite cryptid seems to visit the Annex regularly, and apparently, its makes phenomenal jerky!

The Real Library Feature 1⚡ Catatumbo Lightning (The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice)

In this series of monthly posts, we'll be examining the real places and artifacts mentioned in the franchise.

In the third movie, Flynn mentions a specific location defined by an impossible number of lightning strikes. This is a completely real, breathtaking meteorological phenomenon.

The Real Location: Catatumbo, Venezuela. Specifically over the mouth of the Catatumbo River where it empties into Lake Maracaibo.

The Science: Warm, moist Caribbean air clashes with cold air blowing off the Andes Mountains. This creates a near-permanent storm cycle.

The Trivia: It flashes up to 28 times per minute, for up to 10 hours a day, roughly 260 nights a year. It generates so much constant light that it was historically used by Caribbean sailors as a natural lighthouse, dubbed the "Beacon of Maracaibo."

Chupacabra Jerky (Recipe Thread)

One of the funniest moments in the original series was Stone nearly giddy over Chupacabra jerky and a horrified Cassandra thinking the jerky was made of Chupacabra and not made by the Chupacabra.

Food and drink don't appear often in the series but when it does, it sure looks tasty! I'd love to have high tea with Jenkins and Cassandra!

Speaking of tasty - what are your favourite recipes to whip up? Are you a soup and sandwiches person or a 3 course meal person? Something light? Something decadent? Share some of your favourite recipes - or maybe get an idea for supper!

Concerning Petitions

There are a lot of really passionate fans of this show, and that's wonderful!

But there's recently been a flood of absolute brand new accounts without a single post or comment ever showing up to post their Petition to "save the show." I lost count of how many there are now on Change.org and I'm convinced at least 3 of them were made by the same person/bot.

While I fully admire the passion, multiple petitions clutter up our feed and accomplish little. One petition with 10,000 signatures has a lot more impact than 10,000 petitions with 1 signature each. On top of that, the show hasn't even been cancelled - it literally just ended season 2. Just because a new season hasn't been announced yet doesn't mean the show is cancelled.

So we will not be allowing Petitions other than that first one. If the members want it pinned to the top of the page to make it easier to find, we can do that. All other Petition posts will be filtered. Anyone trying to get around that by hijacking someone else's post to comment a link to their petition risks a muting. Hijacking someone's post for your own thing is bad Reddiquette.

If you want that petition pinned, comment "Pin it" below.

Thank you!

Guardian Poll Results!

Thank you to everyone who voted in the "Favourite Guardian Poll!"

Eve Baird was the runaway winner with 58% of the total votes!

The real reason I posted that poll was just to see if it worked. I don't want the sub to just be polls, they are often low effort and don't invite much conversation. Sometimes, though, it's nice to be able to, and Reddit doesn't allow desktop users to create polls without a workaround, like adding the app I used.

Having working polls will help us implement u/Silbermieze's amazing suggestion from this thread, which we're working on now.

Actor Appreciation

Today is the day we take a lesson from the Tree of Life and branch out!

Across the whole franchise there are some truly talented actors! Let's take some times to appreciate their other work!

Use this thread (or make your own!) - include some photos if you like - and tell us about the other work some of your favourite Librarians castmembers have done!

Are you old enough to remember The Bob Newhart Show? Are you a Leverage Fan? An Angel fan? An ER fan before medical dramas were even really a thing? Did Rebecca Romijn rock your socks in the Xmen franchise?

Today is the day to talk about it!

🔥Thirsty Thursday🔥

Pour yourself a bourbon toddy, a cold beer or a nice cup of jasmine tea, Librarians, it's 🔥THIRSTY THURSDAY! 🔥

Today is the day to drop those pics of your favourite actors across the whole franchise, the one (or 5! or 10!) that makes your pulse race and knees a little weak!

Photos aren't enough, though Ezekiel would love it if everyone just basked in his awesomeness. Include some thoughts. What impresses you, what draws you in? The voice? The eyes? That pert little...nose? ;)

The Librarian's Code (Thread Rules)

PG-13 Only: Keep language family-friendly. We can appreciate the human form without being crude. Actively Monitored: Guardian Mods are watching.

Delicious Villains! Delightful Antagonists!

There's just something about a well-done antagonist, isn't there? The Library has had some absolutely delicious villains and antagonists across the franchise, from Moriarty to Dulaque, Prospero to Merlin.

They all brought something totally different to the table—some were brilliantly theatrical, some brought massive emotional drama, and others were just pure, chaotic fun.

I’m curious to hear everyone's thoughts. Who do you think was the most entertaining to watch?Which villain felt like the biggest threat to Flynn, Baird, and the LITs? Do you prefer the overarching big bads, or do you have a soft spot for a specific "monster of the week"? Drop your favorites (and your rankings) below!

🌌 The Ultimate Librarians/Star Trek Crossover & Easter Egg Master Guide! 📚

The Librarians franchise loves call outs, Easter eggs and cameos, and since it's the 60th Anniversary of Star Trek, I thought it would be fun to compile as many as I could remember or find. Let me know if I missed any!

Jonathan Frakes (Commander William T. Riker): The king of crossover. Frakes didn't just step in for a quick gig; he heavily shaped the visual identity of the entire franchise.

  • The Original Movies: He directed The Librarian: Return to King Solomon's Mines (2006) and The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice (2008).
  • The Original Series: He directed 11 episodes of the TNT series, spanning Season 1 through Season 4.
  • The Cameos: True to style, Frakes gave himself cameos, look for him playing a musician in Judas Chalice and a bar patron in Season 4's ...And the Silver Screen

Spoken Dialogue & Title Easter Eggs

  • The "Ready Room" Gag: In one of Frakes' physical cameos on the television show, he delivers an explicit line stating that he will be in his "ready room", a direct, canonical shout-out to Captain Picard's private office on the U.S.S. Enterprise.
  • The Season 3 Finale Title: Season 3, Episode 10 is titled "And the Wrath of Chaos", an affectionate phonetic play on Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

🎭 Major Cast Crossovers (The Regulars & Villains)

Rebecca Romijn: Rebecca is the ultimate modern bridge between both universes. She starred as the Guardian, Eve Baird, The Librarians. She later officially entered the Star Trek canon as Una Chin-Riley (Number One) in Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

John Larroquette: Our beloved immortal caretaker, Jenkins, has deep-space roots. Larroquette played the Klingon warrior Maltz in the 1984 feature film Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.

Matt Frewer: The main antagonist of Season 1, Dulaque, was played by sci-fi legend Matt Frewer. Trek fans remember him perfectly as the duplicitous, time-traveling con man Berlinghoff Rasmussen from The Next Generation Season 5 episode "A Matter of Time".

John de Lancie: In Season 2, Episode 5 "...And the Infernal Contract", de Lancie guest-starred as the Devil himself (Mephistopheles). He brought the exact same reality-warping, chaotic, wish-granting energy that made him iconic as Q on TNG, Voyager, and Picard.

Brent Spiner: In Season 2, Episode 2 "...And the Broken Staff", TNG's Data, Brent Spiner, lent his voice as the trickster sprite Puck!

Lindy Booth: Lindy Booth played our favourite math-genius-turned-Librarian, Cassandra. She later guest-starred in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 1, Episode 6 "Lift Us Where Suffering Cannot Reach" as Alora.

Did I miss any crossover stars, cameos or call-outs?

Happy 60th Birthday Star Trek. You Boldly Went, so others could follow.

Quote from Dean Devlin

>Tonight, the two-part season finale of The Librarians: The Next Chapter begins. 9pm on TNT — and it concludes TOMORROW night. Two nights, one giant finale. The most ambitious finale we’ve ever attempted. And I couldn’t be more proud.

>We’re pulling out all the stops:>! Dominic returns, and the one and only Josh Gates joins the adventure!<. A real-life explorer walking into the Library — you don’t want to miss what he finds there.

>Forgive me a proud-producer moment before we go: this season, the audience GREW. The reviews are the best of the franchise’s run, episode scores on IMDb are up a full point over last season, and the franchise is sitting at 89% from critics and 87% from fans on Rotten Tomatoes. Eleven years in, and the magic has never been stronger.

>That’s not me. That’s YOU. Every week you showed up, streamed, posted, and brought new people into the Library.

>So bring everyone tonight. 9pm ET on TNT. Part one of two. The Library is open.

Happy Birthday Jane Curtin!

Jane Therese Curtin was born September 6, 1947 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Famous for her acerbic deadpan deliveries, The Philadelphia Inquirer once called her a "refreshing drop of acid".

An original SNL cast member, she had a starring role in Kate & Allie, 3rd Rock From the Sun, The Librarian movies and The Librarians original series as our beloved First Guardian and cat lover, Charlene.

Curtin married Patrick Lynch on May 31, 1975, and they had one daughter. Patrick Lynch died on April 21, 2025 at age 79.

Preemptive banning - is it allowed? Is it fair?

Say you see a user making a ruckus elsewhere. A lot of abrasive comments about mods/moderation in general. Admitting they spam modmails constantly for minor reasons. Or maybe they are trying to take over a sub that has active mods and have made this their entire personality for a few years. *For instance*. I'm just brainstorming out loud, this isn't about any real u/, I'm honestly just curious how mods handle this type of thing in general.

Would you/have you preemptively banned someone from ever joining your sub in the first place, in case that behaviour is unleashed on you and your modteam? Have you ever looked at someone's comment history at random - before they ever try to join your sub - and thought "Problem child. Do not want the drama."?

thinking of having "get it off your chest" thread once a month. bad idea? Good?

My community is pretty small and tight-knit and I've been thinking of ways to build sub camaraderie and engagement.

One I've been toying with (and made a schedule for already) would be a monthly PG13 vent thread where people can just blurt out whatever is bothering them. (As long as they follow the sub rules RE "Keep It Civil" and Reddit's rules.)

Is it a good idea? Or is it the most terrible idea ever? In what ways do you see it going wrong? (Or right?)

I'd add some disclaimers IE

>*Please remember this is a Public subreddit and anyone on or off Reddit might see your comments.
**Only offer advice if a member asks for it. Practice listening and don't judge.

Can you think of any more I should add? Or is it just a terrible idea?
