When sweet Bigotes was found outside, she was in heartbreaking condition. She was extremely thin and emaciated, her fur was dirty and unkempt, she was constantly drooling, and her little tongue was hanging out.

We soon learned why: Bigotes had Stage IV periodontal disease. Her dental disease was so severe that her entire mouth was affected, leaving her in constant, excruciating pain. The only way to give this beautiful girl relief was to remove all of her teeth. Can you imagine trying to survive on the streets while also living with that kind of pain?

Bigotes has already fought so hard just to make it this far. Her dental surgery was absolutely necessary, and we would do it all again in a heartbeat, but the cost of her surgery, medications, veterinary care, and recovery is a huge financial burden for our rescue.

We urgently need your help to cover Bigotes’ medical expenses. Every donation brings us closer to paying her veterinary bills and giving her the comfortable, healthy life she should have had all along.

Meet Bagel!

Unfortunately, Bagel's current foster family can no longer foster him after this week, so Purrfect Catpanion is urgently seeking a new foster family (local to Hudson County!), or, even better, a forever home, for this social, curious, mushy guy.

Bagel, who is approximately three or four years old, loves people, attention, pats, and simply just being around his humans, greeting them at the door with a happy meow or a friendly good morning. In addition to adoring a good snuggle, Bagel is an active little guy who LOVES playtime and is always up for some fun, and he also happens to be a skilled household assistant who takes his duties around the home very seriously. Such duties include:

-Inspecting any new objects that enter the home
-Assisting with projects that do not traditionally require a cat. For example, rolling on any carpet you are trying to move
- Helping you put on shoes (especially those with shoelaces!)
- Keeping a close eye on neighborhood wildlife from the window
- Improving any carefully sorted pile by flopping right on top of it
- Encouraging your workouts - if you are planking, expect him to support you from underneath

As a special bonus, Bagel comes equipped with a magic button at the base of his tail, one scratch and he will melt into a happy flop on the floor. With his easygoing and loving nature, Bagel would make a wonderful addition to a family or individual looking for a loyal, friendly feline companion.

Velvet and Sable are two sweet sisters from a litter of four siblings that were rescued, alongside their mom, from a warehouse in New Brunswick, New Jersey, thanks to a devoted warehouse employee. While the kittens were still tiny and weening, this employee cared for the little family and kept them safe daily, and in turn, the kittens and their sweet mom kept him company, often climbing on his shoulders and sitting in his lap for cuddles while he worked. Once the kittens were weened, the rescuer knew that it was time to find a safer environment for the kittens and mom, so he reached out for help, and now these two girls are ready for their next chapter.

Sable and Velvet are incredibly friendly, confident and affectionate. They love wrestling together, playing with their foster, and are experts at finding the best place for a quick cat nap. They can be adopted together or individually into homes with other young furry playmates.

Knox was spotted on July 8 near 8th Street & Central Avenue in Union City. The person who found him reached out for help, hoping someone could foster him so he could be rescued from the streets. Before those arrangements could be made, someone else called Animal Control, and Knox was picked up.

Thankfully, with the help of our amazing volunteers, we were able to bring Knox into our rescue, and he is now safely under our care.

When Knox arrived, he was in heartbreaking condition. Most of his fur had been shaved off, he had wounds on his back end, and he appeared severely underweight and malnourished. It was clear he had been struggling for quite some time.

On July 9, Knox was seen by our veterinarian for a full assessment. He received antibiotics, vitamins, and was sent home with dewormer to begin his recovery. At this time, he was not healthy enough to be neutered or vaccinated, as he needs to regain his strength before safely undergoing anesthesia.

Knox is currently recovering in a crate while we search for a new foster home. Unfortunately, his current caretaker can only keep him for two more weeks, so we urgently need a foster to help him continue his recovery in a safe and loving environment.

We don’t know what happened to Knox or how he ended up outside. Based on his condition, we can only suspect that he may have experienced neglect or abuse before being abandoned. Right now, he’s understandably shy, scared, and unsure of his surroundings. We hope that with time, proper medical care, and lots of love, he’ll begin to feel safe again and his true personality will shine through.

Johnny is a big gentle guy who has been patiently waiting his turn for far too long. While he’s safe and loved with his foster family, our hearts break for him that he hasn’t found his forever home yet. 

This 4-year-old sweetie appreciates his space just as much as he appreciates being in yours. Very often found slowly walking behind as you change rooms, he also likes to pick a single spot for his daytime napping.

When he’s not taking a cat nap, this guy goes nuts for a laser pointer, where you can exhaust him pretty well running around your home. Also a big fan of catnip toys, he loves to fling it up over his head to try and catch it.

Johnny is not a huge lap cat, but he will flop as close as he possibly can next to you on the couch or in bed, and you will often wake up to find him stretched out alongside you. 

He loves being pet, but definitely on his terms, and when hes done, he lets you know with a loud chirp. You will hear a lot of similar chirps from Johnny, as hes a very talkative cat, and likes to let you know when he enters a room.

Johnny is FIV positive, which means he can live with other FIV+ cats or FIV- cats as long as they are properly introduced. No fear though, FIV+ cats can live happy, fulfilling lives, especially when they're treated with care, given good nutrition, and surrounded by love.

Eddie came to Purrfect Catpanion via Clifton Animal Shelter, where she landed after losing the only home and family she had ever known. She’s been through a lot of change and instability over the last few months, but despite everything, she remains gentle and affectionate. She enjoys being around people and loves pets and attention.

What Eddie needs most right now is a calm, stable, and loving home where she can feel safe and enjoy the comfort every senior cat deserves.

With summer finally upon us, Purrfect Catpanion is seeking local (Hudson County) volunteers who can provide temporary foster care for some of our rescue cats while their regular foster families are taking well-deserved vacations.

Depending on a foster family’s travel schedule, vacation foster placements will typically last anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks. We’ll match you with a cat that’s a good fit for you and provide any needed supplies and support. All you need to provide is a spare room and plenty of love!

If you’ve been thinking about fostering but are nervous to begin, or can’t commit to long-term placements, vacation fostering is a fantastic option!

Purrfect Catpanion is overwhelmed with cats and kittens in need (like sweet Mixi in the attached video), and we urgently need more foster homes throughout Hudson County!

Every cat we save needs a safe place to go. Without fosters, we simply cannot intake more cats from the streets, shelters, surrenders or emergency situations.
