Men... how much do you spend on perfume, cologne, and the like?

Problem/Goal: Verifiably, I don't have BO but I still want to smell fresh and/or appropriate. Often enough, the good ones costs more so how much should one invest on fragrance without smelling cheap or overbearing?

Context: I am not a fraghead and I often just pick up a spray-on cologne here and there from shops like Bench, et al. that I think I like. But when I am near other men, that's when I discern the difference between my cheap scent vs proper colognes.

Old Plex Media Server with Intel Arc GPU

My Plex Media Server runs off an old PC with an Intel Xeon E3-1285 v4 CPU, a GTX1050 Ti GPU, and 32GB of RAM. Motherboard is an ancient Z97-D3H.

Would just replacing the GPU with a an Intel Arc A310 Eco give it a significant bump in hardware transcoding performance, number of streams, as well as add support for newer video codecs?

I'm weighing the cost of the upgrade paths.

Path 1: Upgrade the motherboard, CPU, and RAM
Building a new server from scratch is out of the question. Everything is expensive now. Even a used 9-10th gen PC where I live is expensive so I am reluctant to bulldoze the whole thing for a newer system.

Path 2: Upgrade just the GPU
I am contemplating of offloading the video processing to a much modern QuickSync-capable discrete GPU like the Arc A310 Eco.

Please set me straight. Thanks.

What personal routines or mindset do you adopt before getting behind the wheel?

With all the road rage and kamote moves left and right, I’m sure everyone agrees that driving can be one of the most stressful activities we face everyday. Ideally, you would expect everyone to follow the same rules, show courtesy, and exercise patience so we could all get to where we need to be quickly and safely. But expecting that is naïve. And setting such high expectations only makes disappointment inevitable. And disappointment leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

... or some such idea I learned from Master Yoda. ;)

Anyway, I simply say a short prayer. But outside divine intervention, how do you condition yourself to be the safe and responsible driver you can be proud of before heading out?

Do you keep spare clothes in your car for unforeseen events?

It was a disastrous morning for me when the coffee tumbler I use everyday wasn't capped on properly and a stream of hot beverage dripped on my pants. It was a navy blue pair so the stain wasn't that obvious. Though I also did get some faint splatter on my light-colored shirt. Again, not too bothered with it.... but you can probably guess exactly where this is going. Things could've been much worse.

Anyway, it got me thinking to probably keep backup clothes in the car for these types of emergencies.... I'm thinking a polo-shirt and a pair of pants.... vacuum sealed and thrown in the trunk.

Got a similar story or what other unusual junk do you keep in your trunk?

Your Primary Mobile Line: Physical SIM or eSIM?

Most people have a primary line and secondary lines. This is just talking about your PRIMARY phone line or plan. To me, I define the Primary line to be the line you depend on most... where your identity is tied to.

I’m still unsure whether switching my primary line to eSIM offers any real benefits. Too often I come across horror stories of people losing access to their plans, with their eSIM stuck in limbo after a device change or update.

Facebook automatic Feed refresh is infuriating sometimes...

Imagine this scenario...

  1. You saw a post on your FB Feed that is somewhat interesting
  2. You see a few polarizing comments and you want to weigh in... But then, you're also not keen on giving out a knee-jerk reaction
  3. You do due diligence and research a bit more about the matter or at least independently validate the points being exchanged. You do so by opening another browser window or tab
  4. Your research took a couple of minutes before you're finally able to form your own opinion
  5. You go back to your FB browser window/tab to respond... but the darn post you were looking at just disappeared right before your eyes as your Feed auto-refreshed
  6. You smash the keyboard in and the thought of kicking your dog crossed your mind if he so much as give you a judgmental look (sorry, got carried away)

They implemented this change around 2-3 years ago so it wasn't always like this. But I can rant about it.... it's a free country.

How often do you correct the time on your non-smart wristwatches?

https://preview.redd.it/5dplsjgcnx8h1.png?width=1899&format=png&auto=webp&s=9e607e1e863c5d9b8caba46380e349268a897dbf

I love mechanical, analog wristwatches because they looks timeless and elegant. I have a couple of automatics that I rotate with a smart watch. Lately though, I've grown an affinity towards the latter just because it is almost always correct, down to the second.

Working in an engineering and having a tech position (both professionally and play), I am very particular about accuracy and precision and it bothers me to know that my mechanical watches drift. I fully understand that they can’t be made perfect due to internal friction, wrist motion, shocks, and other factors. In fact, the movements usually have a published accuracy of ± a few seconds per day, but my OC brain still scoffs at that.

Anyhow… I ran a 30‑day test of one of my automatics against a smartwatch synced to Internet/atomic time. I left the watch in its winder for a whole month without touching it. Over that period, it drifted 2 minutes and 6 seconds slower... which is still excellent by any measure for a mechanical wristwatch. But still… 🤷‍♂️. It's hard to shake off the feeling that it's 'wrong'.

Without devolving into insults and cheap rhetoricals, I'd like to hear your side as to my original question and your take on the accuracy of mechanical wristwatches in general.

I am looking for a local snack that actually taste like fish...

UPDATE: I think I found it... It's been years since I've had it so my memory of it is a little hazy. I believe it's Super Chips, and it's prawn-flavored crackers (not fish). Can anyone confirm?

-------------------- Original Post --------------------

It's a local snack that smells 'malansa' at first, but tastes good actually, at least for me.

It's like the Oishi Fishda but 1000x tastier and packaged in clear plastic.

Can anyone remind me what it's called?

Windows 11 started asking for my Bitlocker recovery key, 2 days in a row now. Is it a bug or a feature?

UPDATE: It looks like it's back to normal now. The only thing I did was install a couple of Optional Windows updates. One was an HP firmware update that included a bunch of Intel chipset-related stuff. During the course of it running, the machine had to reboot a couple of times so it asked for the Bitlocker key in each of those times. But then, after the dust has settled, I've tried Suspending it, Restarting, and Shutdown/Power-up... and it no longer asks for the Bitlocker key. For now at least, I think this issue is closed. I'll give an update if it happens again.

Thanks y'all.

-------------------------- Original Post --------------------------

I vaguely remembered installing an update 2 days ago and yesterday morning was the first day Bitlocker asked for the key. I painstakingly typed in the 48 digits and I was able to regain access to my laptop until I got off work last night. But this morning, the same thing happened.

I don't want to turn off Bitlocker but I also don't want it to pester me everyday.

Anybody else having this issue?

FWIW, this is an unmanaged device with a Win11 Pro that I've cleanly-installed less than a year ago.

Empty Mentos tins

I have over a dozen of these that I've collected through the years. I've already repurposed a few to organize screws and tiny items in the workshop, but I always end up having more than I need.

Curious what else can these be used for. The USB-C cable is for size reference.
