The Little Things

How sunlight streams through the sliding glass onto my half smiling face as I sit quietly
How Ólafur Arnalds' neo-classical track settles gently in my soul
How Ten, my familiar, lays close enough beside me that I can hear him peacefully purr
It's in these moments that I am thankful
for time,
a friend,
a home...
a life.

Gratitude for the Little Things
The morning's little things:
The way Ten said hello by happily pouncing onto my bed;
How my tea was suitably sweet as I slowly sipped it in the dimly lit kitchen;
When I drew the curtains to let in light & the sun's rays rushed into my unprepared eyes.
In those moments all was quiescent & I was thankful to have a bed, a home, a friend...a life.

Forgiveness & Reconciliation
One of the hardest lessons I've learned is that forgiveness and reconciliation aren't the same thing. Friendship, romance, family: it's all the same.
I can genuinely hope someone heals and still decide they no longer get access to me. I can genuinely love someone, but from a distance.
That wasn't an overnight realization. That took learning through failed attempts to hopefully love them enough they'd change. I'm no longer a fixer or a potential cultivator.
It was compassion with boundaries. It was also understanding that forgiveness frees me from carrying the burden of heavy emotional weight.
It was protecting my peace.
