Hey everyone, for the last year and a bit I've been designing my own journal. One part of the design I can't figure out is how to add charms to it. I know a lot of other notebooks use more of a thinner elastic around it but I want to maintain the thicker cotton strap as it was inspired by my grandmother's World War 2 satchel (she’s the person who got me into journaling).
Any recommendations on different ways that I could attach some of my charms to this or change the design?
Hey everyone. I've been having this issue for some time now with my Gore-Tex outer shell wetting out. I've tried tech wash, putting it through the dryer, applying DWR, but regardless of what I do, it seems to always absorb the water and wet out pretty quickly. This photo is more casual drizzle but gets the point across. Is there anything else I can do/that I’m missing.
I've also taken really good care of it. I make sure that I don't go around anything like campfires with it and generally try to avoid abrasive things that could rub off the DWR.
It is the Patagonia Ascensionist Jacket for reference.
Hey everyone. I’ve been shooting for a few years now but feel like I’ve really hit a plateau.
Would love some harsh feedback!
Hey everyone! I have been journaling for the past 5 years now, but I always had one issue and that was I wanted to add all my memories like photos, videos, songs, etc. to my journal.
I tried iPads, reMarkable, and journaling apps, but nothing could beat the feeling of a good notebook. I even got a little photo printer to add images to my notebook, but that broke after a little motorcycle crash in Vietnam.
So I made this. It started off with me just adding Google Photo links to an NFC tag, but has kind of steamrolled into making a whole journaling system with an app.
Basically, you add a DOT tag to any page and can add photos, videos, songs, locations, links, or audio logs to the notebook. So you can still journal with the timeless experience of writing on paper while being able to organize and connect your digital memories to that moment.
The book design was inspired by a lot of my favourite notebooks with some personal touches. The hook was inspired by my backpack that I took when I was a canoe instructor in Canada, and the strap is inspired by my grandmother's WW2 bag as she was the one who got me into journaling. I also made it modular so if you don't mess with the DOT books you can put your own in, or when you run out of pages you can add more inserts in.

I’d genuinely love to hear what all of you think, especially if you’re a big stationery nerd or love to journal.

Known issues:
Why not QR codes?
Honestly I just don't vibe with QR codes for something like this. I think there is something special about the physicality of feeling like you are adding these digital memories into the page.
How does your phone know what NFC tag to scan?
Short answer: It doesn't
Long answer: I have added some failsafes so if you mis‑scan you can edit the memory to the correct page. Many early testers reported that holding the page up and placing your hand near the tag works for them. I am working on a custom tag that blocks the signal from everything below, but that is still in development. I am also considering removing the need to add a tag to each page and instead having one built into the cover, though I am not a huge fan of that solution because part of the point is to be able to add images to the page itself.
Hey everyone I am a student working on a civil eng and innovation project and we're prototyping a tool to make zoning and permitting processes less painful. Before we build anything, I want to actually understand the problem from people who've lived it, rather than guessing.
If you've gone through a zoning or permitting process — as a homeowner, builder, developer, business owner, or someone working in planning I'd really value your take on any of these:
Not selling anything just need to do some public surveys.
Thanks!
