18 month journey – 5 months into maintenance – progress

Been a while since I checked in with you guys (though I am always hanging around trying to support others), I figured it was worth posting a journey update!

Key stats:

  • Male
  • Age 51
  • First dose 4^(th) April 2025
  • Starting weight  - 19st 6.4lb
  • Max weight (May 2023) – 20st 6.8lb
  • Height 5ft 9in

Yo-Yo dieted from age of 12, always failed, always ended up gaining it all back and more, food noise was crippling and I just could not keep diets going, it was torture

Mounjaro killed the noise, simple as that, it has been magical for me.  I hit goal weight in January 2026, then stretch goal in April, just before my first holiday since being on MJ.

Started titrating down little by little just before I hit stretch goal. Maximum dose I ever took – 10mg

Titrating down 0.5-1mg every few weeks (settled to going down by 0.5mg every 6 weeks now, potentially to 0)

In August 2025, week 20 of my journey, I had a wobble and put on weight – I started recording every intake of calorie and it was so rewarding to KNOW what I was eating, and comparing to my TDEE.  It was life changing and I think I will continue doing this forever!  (I use nutracheck)

Biggest life change along side my new body? I am now a runner!  I started going to the gym to do weights (to maintain muscle mass – not very successfully), used treadmill as my warmup and found I loved it.  Completed Couch-to-5k over 4 months, and went for my first ever outdoors run on January 6^(th) 2026 and fell in love with the feeling.  Joined Parkrun the following weekend and I was hooked!   Then in May I was brave and entered a 5k race and that was my new hobby – fully addicted (see photo of medals as proof LOL)

Advice to newbies:

  • Start exercising on day on, Lift weights to maintain muscle mass, and do cardio – it gives you a buffer for extra calories, especially in maintenance! (1500 running calories, is my Friday night beers and crisps covered)
  • Watch your macros – focus on fibre, protein and calcium – hit your targets, you will thank yourself
  • Be patient, this is a long journey, 0-1% total body-weight loss per week is your target

What’s next?  I still have plenty of medication in the fridge (I have not bought a pen in 12 months), but hoping to come off sometime in the first half of 2027).  I have inadvertently lost more weight recently so that has to stop as I am trying to bulk up muscle-wise, I will start taking more protein-rich snacks (shakes, bars etc) and try to enjoy food/life a little more.

I am still mega paranoid about going-back to old me.  Wife gets annoyed with my obsession over it, but I cannot help it, I LOVE new me, and I dread it all falling apart, so imagine constant vigilance forever!  If I need a drug to support new me, then so be it!

Good luck everyone!

Finally finished (is it ever finished ?)

Been working on this for a while - this was a dumping ground a few months ago (see the before pic), but I have been buying equipment for years and used on and off

This weekend I found a guy selling old commercial gym mats for £12 a tile, 1mx1mx15mm , so I went and bought 25 of them. He threw in a few more with some off cuts , and I spent the last 2 days fitting them!

Really happy with the outcome !

Doing “starting - strength”, after losing 8 stone over the past 16 months , so I need to rebuild muscle mass. Wife also loves the home gym !

Feedback welcome ! Be kind please 😀

Received 2 parcels instead of 1 - How to return

Hi all,

i am a seller and a buyer, and i can see what happened. post office has printed same label twice, put it onto 2 parcels, so i have received 2 parcels from the seller (i nearly had this one but i noticed before they were sent on the van)

question is, how do we manage this that doesn't cost me anything? as seller cant issue me a return label for something i did not buy! if i had been clever, i could have raised issue with the item i did buy and receive, but i have already accepted order.

thoughts?

the stuff is weirdly my size and something i would buy, but they are new with tags and i am too tight to buy new-with-tags stuff!

Addicted to weight loss - Need Mindset change

hello hive mind.

Key facts:

  • Mounjaro journey started April 4th 2025.
  • starting weight - 19 stone 6 pounds
  • Goal weight 11st 11 pounds
  • Current weight - 11 stone 4.8 pounds
  • Max dose was 10mg, stayed on that for good few months
  • BMI now down to 23.5 from over 40

I have titrated down to 7mg so far, with a plan to get down to as close to zero as possible. i still do not know what maintenance looks like in the long term. I have 4 x 15mg pens in the fridge which should last to March/April 2027.

I still count calorie intake religiously, i think i always will

I now run 3-4 times per week (4-6km)

I started Strong lifts 5x5 last week (have irregularly lifted through the journey, no where near enough)

I am keep to stop losing weight, but after 40 years of yoyo dieting, it is really hard to accept that i am at a good weight - arguably i am, a few pound too light now, for my frame. (my spine sticks out, my breast plate sticks out, loose skin everywhere, though arms starting to settle a bit )

Food noise is back, but when its high, i go for a run. when i am really hungry, i have a protein shake or nuts, or fruit (old me went for crisps and break and cakes) , i barely drink beer any more... Friday nights i am keeping myself sober for Parkrun Saturday morning!

I think i am terrified of falling off of the wagon... i now only weigh-in on a Friday morning... but i still get that feeling of "i wonder if i have lost weight!", and i still am, even half a pound a week.

i am eating more, but probably no more on average than my TDEE, so maybe the running is costing more calories than Garmin is telling me (i do sweat a lot). but i dread the week i put on 2 pounds... not sure i am ready to see it!

Just venting, and seeing if others on maintenance have similar experiences (i searched the thread for "addicted" and had a read, but felt this warranted a new thread.

I think first step, reduce MJ to 6, then 5 and so on, and keep dropping, maybe faster than i had planned (was going to drop 1mg per month)

love to hear your thoughts....

First 7km in the bag - onwards and upwards

None of my friends or family run / jog / walk. they all think i have lost my mind (50 years being a fat guy, now finally thin(ish), i guess it's weird for people to see)

I did couch to 5k from October to January

park runs since January to now

first proper 5k race done last week (getting a medal was awesome)

trying to work my way to 10km this year. I did 6km last week, but managed 7km today in a rainy northern Ireland - am i officially a runner yet? LOL.

My knees definitely ache more than with a 5k, but felt OK. will try and bet to 8km over the next few weeks and hopefully get to 10km by summer.

I signed up for another 2 official 5k races too - love getting the medals!

thanks for listening!

New d-pads!

I got some old master system controllers in a retro bundle I bought off FB, but they had no d-pads! Seems to be a common fault and I could not find parts . My mate printed these for me and they look epic! 2 controllers rescued !

He saw the wee stand and printed me that too, it’s cool! So he he is printing me another 😂

14 Months - 8 Stone Down - Life Begins at 50!

What a year, i can not quite believe it. I have posted a few journey updates over the past 14 months, but rarely a body-pic as i just could not bring myself to. However, this week i did my first ever proper 5k race, and wifey took that photo as I crossed the line and it is the first time i have loved a picture of myself!

I started MJ in April 2025 after a Nuffield 360 health assessment. i was approaching 50 yrs old, had a BMI in the 40's, and was heading to diabetes if i didn't sort myself out, with nearly every health-metric showing RED! I have been fat since 6 yrs old, yoyo dieted from age 12, and every bounce-back after a diet left me heavier than before.

Last October i decided to try Couch-2-5k. i was down 4-stone and i had always wanted to be able to run (had never before). I graduated that in January 2026, I decided to try a Parkrun 5k the following saturday, fell in love with the cult that it is, and have done Parkrun every Saturday since, I have managed to get my time down to 28m 21s! which to me is insane!!

the before and after pic shocks me - i barely recognise myself. i have gone from Tesco XXXL polo shirts, to under-armour fanatic. from obsessing over take-out choices, to browsing sports shops for new running shoes and bone-conducting ear phones!

boring details:

starting weight - 19 stone 6 pound

Current weight - 11 stone 6 pound

Max dose was 10mg, stayed on that for good few months

I have titrated down to 7mg so far, with a plan to get down to as close to zero as possible. i still do not know what maintenance looks like in the long term. I have 4 x 15mg pens int he fridge still, which should last to March/April 2027

I went for my 360 health assessment this week, saw the same doctor as last year and she was shocked! nearly every measurement is now in the green, except body-fat-% - she thinks 2% of that could be the excess skin, so not to worry and to stop losing weight.

sorry for the wall of text, so much to say, sop much excitement, and lots of nerves about the future!

I am a massive advocate for GLP's, i love telling people about it, never been secretive. but i truly believe that you have to combine it with good lifestyle choices to make it work. i do not recognise my diet from a year ago, or just how i approach food and exercise.

bring on the future! life begins at 50!!!

Happy to answer any questions -

Home Gym ready for action

just thought i would share my recent Home gym build (before and after)

I have been building up the equipment over years but never got it setup, mainly due to having too many hobbies and not enough motivation to sort the garage

About 3 months ago i started selling stuff from old hobbies and then set to business sorting the garage, de-cluttering, sorting, selling, dumping, giving away... and this week i finally broke the back of it!

i would love to get proper gym mats across the floor but will maybe do that next year. need a fan in there as it gets hot in this sun! and a bigger TV, though the small one works, maybe a Bluetooth speakers to get the gym-feel pumping tunes!

just noticed i have no where to use the kettle-bells, maybe need to think about that! can always move the bench over i guess.

now the question is, do i cancel my gym membership!

thanks for looking, just a bit of showing off i know... i am still a newbie when it comes to fitness and training. I did stronglifts 5x5 many years ago and liked it, but divorce came and i fell off of the wagon big-time. I have recently lost around 8-9 stone and have taken to running, but now I need to rebuild the muscle mass that i lost while losing weight, so this hopefully will help! figure i will start what i know, and go back to stronglifts 5x5! would love to be able to do a pull-up by the end of the year!

Journey update - From Couch-to-5k to beginner runner

With the recent posts of people starting to run and smashing 20-25 mins on their first outing (which is bloody epic by the way), I thought i would add some middle-ground balance and share my journey over the past 8 months .

50, male - Over the past 13 months I have been on a weight loss journey, going from 19.5 stone down to around 11.5 stone today (little more to go - thank you Mounjaro!!) . This time last year I could not run the length of myself, I have never ran in my life, I did walk a bit and have fairly activity-heavy hobbies but i was very out of shape and running would have broken my knees.

Halfway through weight loss i thought i would try Couch-2-5k on the treadmill. It took me from October through to January to graduate (many repeat weeks) .

The week after graduating i signed up for Parkrun and fell in love with outdoors running. I have only missed 2 weeks due to going on holiday in Spain, where i took my running gear and ran 3 times along the promenade! (you sunny-climate dwellers are so damn lucky - it was amazing!!)

Anyway, the picture shows my personal-best progress since starting outdoor running (post- C25k). I typically run 2-4 times per week, and nearly every run is 5km. The most i have ran is 6.5km which near killed me.

towards the end of my couch-to-5k, my expected 5k time was around 45-48 minutes, so that was my real; starting point. when i started that program, the 1-minute runs were killer!

That's all, thank you for reading! good luck beginners, if i can do it , anyone can!
