Pitched my tent (X-Dome 1+), on some hard grass, but no rocks or anything. Bottom has some of these spots now. Never seen it, even when pitching on rockt surfaces. Thoughts? Thanks.

Are Dyneema Tents Worth It?

I've never used one, but from what I'm reading and watching they require a delicate touch despite being marketed as a strong fabric. You have to fold and roll them gently, can't over expose them to sun, people talking about pine needles poking holes in them. Seems like a high maintenance item that requires a frequent (relatively) amount of repairs. Plus the cost. Is it worth saving like 7oz?

Waterproof Socks vs Plastic Bags

So I have been using waterproof socks. Only when it is cold and raining, don't see the point if it's warm outside. They work ok. The problem is, they're bulky and eventually the hydrostatic head fails because your walking on them. You sweat under them because they are non permeable.

So I started just using plastic bags instead. Just bought the plastic shoe covers on Amazon that sight like 2oz and wear them over my socks instead of over my shoes and put an elestic band on my ankle. They work better. They cost like $10 for 8 pair.

Yall Seen any Ticks SE Texas?

Yall Seen any uptick in ticks? (See what I did there). I'm in South East Texas, looking to spend some time in the Sam Houston National Forest. Seeing if anyone has seen a lot of thick activity. I know there have been report of a lot more of them across the country. Thanks.

Rain Gear and Water Softener

I'm not talking about added water softener. I have a whole house softener/filtration system. Will that harm my rain gear when I wash it (wash it as directed with the correct detergent). My town has terribly hard water so I figured hard water would be bad for the gear because of the scaling and minerals, and the soften water would be much better. Somebody told me the soften water would ruin the DWR finish because of the minute amount of salt the softener adds to the water. Thoughts?

Glock 20 Gen 5 Holsters. Where are they?

Yeah, can't seem to find a decent OWB holster for this generation. Yeah, there are a lot of the basic Kydex holsters that offer little to no levels retension, but that doesn't interest me. Never made sense to have a holster somebody can just pull your gun out of with no effort. Anyway, anybody know of a decent retension holster for the Gen 5?

Solo Hiking Montana: Advice Please

Ok, so everyone I talk to says I'm crazy to solo hike Montana in September. They are convinced a grizzly is just going to eat me up. I'm looking at Glacier (I know the recent news lol), Bob Marshal, or Absoaroka-Beartooth. I am not a novice and am fully aware of all the Bear protocol. Is the all this concern warranted? Am I just going to go get eaten lol? But seriously, what are your thoughts, solo is my only option as I have lazy friends and prefer solo hiking anyway.

Camping Near Dead Trees

Seems every National Forest I hike have a good number of dead trees. Wild fires have just been to frequent in the last 20yrs. I'm hard pressed to find an undeveloped camp sight without one near me. It's really effecting my backcountry hikes. What are yall doing? Do you just risk it and camp anyway finding the best of the worst? Or do you abandon the trail if you can't find a suitable spot? Thanks
