If Robin Williams had beaten Daniel Day-Lewis and won Best Actor for Dead Poets Society instead, how do you think it would’ve affected future acting races?
The first domino effect I thought of is the 1994 Best Actor race. If Day-Lewis hadn’t won for My Left Foot, would he have beaten Tom Hanks for Philadelphia since he still wouldn’t have had an Oscar at that point? If so, Hanks likely still wins a year later for Forrest Gump, but he wouldn’t have the distinction of winning Best Actor in consecutive years.
The next possibility is the 1998 Best Supporting Actor race. Since Williams would’ve already been an Oscar winner, would the Academy have been more inclined to award Burt Reynolds for Boogie Nights? Reynolds had the veteran narrative and had never won before. Or was Williams’ performance in Good Will Hunting simply too strong to deny regardless, making him a two-time Oscar winner instead?
Then there’s the 2003 Best Actor race. If Day-Lewis had lost both My Left Foot and In the Name of the Father, would he have beaten Adrien Brody for Gangs of New York? At that point, he’d have a pretty strong overdue narrative working in his favor. Brody would eventually win for The Brutalist 22 years later, but he would no longer be the youngest Best Actor winner ever. Or was his performance in The Pianist too undeniable to lose no matter what?
Finally, there’s the 2018 Best Actor race. If Day-Lewis entered Phantom Thread as a two-time Oscar winner rather than a three-time winner, would he have had a better chance against Gary Oldman for Darkest Hour? Would the Academy have been more tempted to give one of the greatest actors ever a third Oscar? Or was Oldman’s performance, transformation, and overdue narrative simply too much to overcome?
Which of these races do you think changes the most? And are there any other Oscar domino effects that might result from Robin Williams winning Best Actor for Dead Poets Society?

Emma Stone in Bugonia for me! Such a fun and insane performance!
Hey guys! I’m back with a new game!
I got a comment during the final round of our last game suggesting I do one for the characters next, and I thought that sounded like such a fun idea!
There are 45 characters here, so this will be a 46 round game… 4 rounds longer than the last one!

Based on the film alone since it just came out, do you see it as a Best Picture nominee?
Just saw the film and I don’t think this will be much of an awards contender. Maybe score. Maybe sound. Very slight maybe Best Actress for Emily Blunt. She’s great, but I don’t think the film will be as embraced by the academy. It’s more War of the Worlds or Ready Player One Spielberg than West Side Story or The Fabelmans Spielberg.
It could be a Don’t Look Up type Best Picture nominee, but that depends on how weak this year is overall.
Hypothetically, if Mike fully came to terms with his feelings and he and Will eventually started dating, what do you think would be the biggest hurdles they’d have to overcome in their relationship?
Personally, I think the biggest issue in Mike and El’s relationship was communication, or more specifically, Mike’s inability to communicate. And I don’t even think that problem was necessarily specific to El. We see it with Mike throughout the series, and even with other Wheelers like Nancy and Karen in their relationships with Steve/Jonathan and Ted. The Wheelers tend to avoid confrontation, bottle things up, and kick problems down the road instead of directly addressing them.
That’s basically what Mike does with El. He keeps his feelings to himself, avoids difficult conversations, and struggles to openly express what he wants or feels. We even see him briefly do the same thing with Will after the Byers move, where he avoids talking to him and becomes distant. A lot of us headcanon that as internalized homophobia and confusion over his feelings.
So if Mike ever fully accepted those feelings and chose to pursue a relationship with Will, I actually don’t think communication would remain as huge of an issue, because finally acknowledging his feelings would already be a major step forward for him emotionally. He's always been more emotionally honest with Will more than anyone else.
That said, I still think they’d have a lot to figure out as a couple and would probably face new struggles in their dynamic. Besides the obvious issue of homophobia and the time period they live in, what other hurdles do you think Mike and Will would realistically struggle with in a relationship?
