8 days since Headphone Zone received my HiBy R4 for warranty — still not even inspected

Its actually been 10days not 8days!!! I honestly didn't want to make one of those Headphone Zone complaint posts.

I've bought from them before and generally preferred dealing with an established Indian retailer for expensive audio gear because of the warranty/support aspect.

But this experience is getting frustrating.

My HiBy R4 developed a ghost-touch issue with the screen, so I raised a warranty claim and sent the device to Headphone Zone.

https://reddit.com/link/1voushd/video/0zqlmgzlahjh1/player

They received my unit on 5th August.

When I contacted them, I was told that the warehouse/warranty team currently has a backlog and that inspection would take around one week, after which I'd receive an update/resolution.

It's now been 10 days, and as far as I know, my device hasn't even been inspected yet. (title is actually wrong I didn't realize it been 10days!!)

I understand that warehouses can have backlogs. I understand that warranty claims take time. I'm not expecting my replacement/repair to magically happen overnight.

But if the company tells me that inspection will take approximately a week, I think it's reasonable to expect at least an inspection or a meaningful status update around that time-frame.

The frustrating part is that their internal backlog isn't something I can control. I directly submitted the device when requested to their Chennai warehouse, it reached them, and now I'm simply waiting without having my device.

And unfortunately, I'm posting this at a time when there are already several recent Reddit posts from other customers describing similar warranty/after-sales experiences — including long inspection delays, lack of updates, and repeated follow-ups.

I'm not posting this to say "never buy from Headphone Zone." I'm posting because I want my particular issue resolved, and I'm hoping putting this out publicly might actually get someone to look into it.

My WCID is Hiby96 if a Headphone Zone representative wants to investigate.

Headphone Zone — if you're seeing this, please tell me what is actually happening with my R4 and when it will be inspected.

So many days without even an inspection, after being told approximately one week, is not a reasonable experience for a ₹20k+ DAP under warranty.

DITA Project M – Like a Spicy Biryani: Bold, Addictive, and Not for Everyone

SETTING THE KITCHEN TABLE

To understand the Project M, one must first recognize the "Master Chef" behind it: Dita Audio. Based in Singapore, Dita has spent years refining its recipe in the high-end audiophile kitchen, earning a reputation for precision engineering and a near-obsessive commitment to single dynamic driver technology. From the legendary Dream to the flagship Perpetua, they’ve proven that you don't need a dozen drivers to create a masterpiece—just the right ingredients and a lot of technical finesse. Their builds aren't just tools; they are premium, industrial-grade art pieces that signal a brand more interested in perfection than following trends.

Let me start by thanking the AudioGeek Brotherhood for the opportunity to test out this unique flavorful dish and by dish, I mean the Dita Project M. I’m relatively new to writing formal reviews, though I’ve spent plenty of time deep in the beginner audiophile scene. Honestly, when I first heard this was coming my way, I didn’t know what to expect. I’d auditioned enough gear to assume this would be mediocre at best. I didn't even check the price tag until later. I was wrong. Dita’s resin craftsmanship is exceptional, and they’ve pulled off some masterful tuning with just a single DD and BA. This thing is spicy. It’s that treble tuning that keeps me hooked; it’s become the kind of IEM that pops into my head while I’m sitting at work, wondering how a familiar song might sound through it. It turns the mundane into something fresh every time.

It's wild to think the Project M is over two years old now, yet it stays so relevant in a market that moves at lightning speed. I know the Project M2 is out there now with its single DD and different flavor, but since I haven't had a chance to hear it, I'm sticking with my love for the "OG M" and its specific treble zing. Of course, audio is totally subjective, so keep in mind these are just my personal thoughts. Looking back at my Med school days, I used to study with music in the background, but this IEM is just too energetic and engaging for that it would have been a total distraction for deep focus! I actually fell for this unit so hard that I ended up hunting down a used, month-old unit for myself.

TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

  • Driver Configuration:
    • 1 × Custom-built PM1+ 9.8mm Dynamic Driver for full-range, punchy bass.
    • 1 × Knowles Balanced Armature Driver (Model 33518) for sparkling, clear treble.
  • Frequency Response: 20 Hz - 20 kHz
  • Impedance: 32 Ohms
  • Sensitivity: 107 dB/mW @ 1 kHz

WHAT’S IN THE BOX

  • The Earphones: A pair of transparent resin Project M IEMs housing a 9.8mm PM1+ Dynamic driver and a Knowles Balanced Armature driver.
  • The Cable: The MOCCA IEM cable constructed with premium, ultra-pure Cardas conductors.
  • Modular Plugs: DITA's Awesome Plug Version 2 (APV2), allowing you to swap between included terminations: 3.5mm single-ended and 4.4mm balanced.
  • Eartips: 5 pairs of exclusive Final Audio Type E tips. These are a personal favorite of mine—I've loved them since using them with the Final VR3000 for VR gaming. Also, an interesting fun fact: these specific tips glow in the dark!
  • Carrying Case: A rugged, industrial-style Systainer3 case manufactured by German company TANOS.
  • Paperwork: User manual, warranty information, and a foldable poster-style brand brochure.

DESIGN, BUILD QUALITY, COMFORT & PRESENTATION: THE VISUAL APPEAL

The design of the Project M has been quite polarizing for me since I first laid eyes on it. It immediately reminded me of that iconic Jurassic Park mosquito trapped in amber there's something raw and prehistoric about the way the internals are suspended in resin. Dita has masterfully crafted these shells to show off the beautifully marked drivers inside, turning the tech itself into the aesthetic. As for comfort, they fit my ears like a glove. Once they're in, I genuinely forget they’re even there after a few minutes, a feeling only enhanced by the superb Final Audio Type E tips.

TEST TRACKS

  • "La vie en Rose" by Louis Armstrong - Jazz Test
  • "Angel" by Massive Attack - Bass Test
  • "Bubbles" by Yosi Horikawa - Soundstage Test
  • "Lost but won" (from the "Rush" OST) by Hans Zimmer and "Can You Hear The Music" by Ludwig Gransson - Dynamics/OST Test
  • "Innum Konjam Naeram" (from "Maryan") by A.R. Rahman (Singers: Vijay Prakash and Shweta Mohan) and "Young and Beautiful" by Lana Del Rey - Vocals Test

THE PAIRING SECTION: ADDING THE RAITA

To fully understand the Dita Project M's performance, I've been putting it through its paces using the Hiby R4 and Muse Hifi M300 as my primary source chain. These pairings have been instrumental in revealing the IEM's true capabilities. On the other hand, I also have a Fiio Q7 on hand which is a remarkably neutral and analytical DAC. I’ve found that the synergy with the Project M just isn't quite there, as the combined clinical nature of both becomes too spicy to tolerate.

THE SOUND BREAKDOWN: THE FLAVOR PROFILE

Timbre

The Timbre is spot on for most parts, especially with guitar and piano music, which I love. It’s so dynamic and engaging, particularly for soundtracks.

The Masala (Treble & Upper Mids)

The treble is definitely spicy and energetic. While this adds to the excitement, it can be unforgiving with certain instruments; specifically, cymbals and hi-hats can sound harsh at times.

The Rice & Meat (Bass & Lower Mids)

The mid-bass is more than sufficient, delivering plenty of quantity and satisfying impact. While the sub-bass slam is slightly less pronounced, it fits the overall tuning of the set perfectly.

Presentation (Soundstage & Imaging)

The soundstage is not too wide; I feel it's more horizontal than vertical. It has an "outside my head" feeling that is nearby but not overly expansive, which helps maintain that engaging quality I love. Additionally, instrument separation is really good. Electric guitar riffs also sound lovely, especially in tracks like "Yaad" by Bloodywood.

Vocals

The vocals are a highlight; female vocals feel amazing, lovely, and intimate, while male vocals come out clear and impactful.

On ethereal tracks like Con La Brisa, the Project M showcases exceptional vocal density it pushes the reverb-soaked, watery vocals right to the forefront, keeping the presentation deeply intimate and tack-sharp while the massive soundscape opens up wide behind it.

CONCLUSION: THE FINAL BILL

Pros

  • Excellent craftsmanship and build quality
  • Engaging, dynamic and spicy treble tuning
  • Comfortable fit with Final Audio Type E tips
  • Sensitive and doesn't need a powerful source to drive

Cons

  • Treble can be intense for some
  • Does not pair well with all genres
  • Requires careful source matching (can be too analytical with some DACs)
  • Poor cable quality compared to competitors at this price point
  • The cable tends to develop green discoloration with age
  • The resin casing is prone to yellowing after long-term use

The Final Verdict: A Feast for the Right Palette

The Dita Project M is exactly like a high-grade, traditional spicy biryani. It is bold, incredibly aromatic, intensely flavorful, and unapologetically distinct. It completely throws out the safe, predictable "bland diet" tuning curves that flood the market, delivering a beautifully energetic, micro-detailed technical signature that leaves a lasting impression. If you feed it the right pairings like the warm, musical embrace of the Muse HiFi M300 or the versatile HiBy R4 it rewards you with pure sonic addiction, turning everyday tracks into a vibrant, front-row experience.

However, just like a true spicy dish, it demands the right palate. If you are looking for a smooth, laid-back, dark-chocolate signature, or if you plan to plug it into an unforgivingly clinical source, the treble masala will easily cross the line into being too sharp to tolerate. It is a specialized, high-energy instrument that commands your full attention rather than fading politely into the background while you work or study.

At its price tier, it does carry a few physical compromises the resin will show its age over time, and the cable build leaves a bit to be desired. But if you are looking for an IEM with a striking visual layout, a dead-silent background for sensitive multi-driver configurations, and a unique, sparkling presentation that brings female vocals and acoustic strings to life, the Project M is an absolute masterpiece. It isn't a safe, mass-market crowd-pleaser, but for those who love that specific treble zing, nothing else quite hits the spot.

Recommendation Level: Highly Recommended for those who dare to add a little extra spice to their audio library! Infact I bought one after the review as I mentioned in the INTRO!

Moving on to Oppo Find X9 Ultra - from Moto Signature after 4months of no Bug fixes - TLDR: CRAP SOFTWARE, AMAZING HARDWARE

I really wanted to love this phone - I bought it 4 days before my birthday as a gift to myself. The hardware is genuinely fantastic, but after four months of waiting for updates that never came, the software has completely pushed me away. I'm officially jumping ship to the Oppo Find X9 Ultra. Context: My smartphone experience has been Oneplus 1 ➡️ Oneplus 5T ➡️ Redmi Note 5 Pro ➡️ S21 Ultra ➡️ S24 Plus ➡️ Motorola Signature ➡️ Oppo Find X9 Ultra(on the way). So when I say this I absolutely mean it...

Here is why I finally had to give up:

  • Horrendous Bluetooth Volume: As an audiophile, this is an absolute dealbreaker. The Bluetooth output is incredibly low and completely ruins the listening experience.
  • Broken USB-C DAC Support: This was the final nail in the coffin for my audio setup. Plugging in a proper DAC or dongle is a frustrating, buggy mess when it should just be plug-and-play.
  • Terrible Network Reliability: The phone is constantly signal hunting. I’ve dealt with incredibly weak reception and far too many missed calls simply because the radio can't hold a stable connection.
  • No Native Gallery App: It sounds like a minor gripe until you actually try to use it. Not having a dedicated gallery makes finding and sharing media to social apps an absolute chore.
  • Barren Software: I appreciate a clean UI, but this is just boring. There is little to no meaningful customization available to actually make the phone feel like your own.

It’s a massive shame because the hardware team knocked it out of the park, but the software experience and complete lack of support make it a daily frustration.
