Questions from a Heathen.

For complex reasons I've been considering Religio Romana, and I have some questions.

  1. Are there any major ways that Do ut Des differs from the Gifting Cycle?
  2. What's the relationship between modern Religio Romana and Hellenism like?
  3. Should I come up with something specific to ask for for formal purposes, or could I rely on gift-begets-gift here too?
  4. What are some Roman examples of aniconic representation of the divine?
  5. Wat was/were the Roman stance(s) on consuming offerings?

Wheat tells?

The mods banned wheat from the sub, but I'm still really paranoid about finding wheat in my worldbuilding. Please give me some wheat tells that I can use to hallucinate and poison the well.

Allow me to introduce WFY.

WFY stands for Wheat Fuck Yeah, and it's a genre that's all about glorifying the Crop of Crops, wheat.

Many WFY stories center around conflicts between the various wheats and invading humans. Common themes are the peaceful harmony of the wise wheat compared to the divided, self-absorbed humans, the surperior tech of the wheat, and the unique ability of wheat to domesticate humans and aliens alike. The stories themselves also feature influences from cultures all around the world, particularly from West Asia where many forms of wheat first evolved.

If HFY isn't your thing, perhaps you could give WFY a try.

I'm posting here because r/worldbuilding banned me for speaking the Truth™.

In the World of Wheat, there are five kinds of race-I mean wheat, and they are called wheat, spelt, emmer, einkorn, and barley (honorary wheat). These wheats have inherent characteristics that determine their personalities, culture, morality, etc.

For example, the spelt has a curse that causes them to rarely give birth to male spelt, so they invade migrate to Northern Wheatland to breed with the wheat, which causes problems like violence and mongrel wheat.

...No, I'm not dewheatizing spelt, why do you ask?

The case for wheatarms in the World of Wheat.

Wheatarms are a controversial topic among wheatbuilders. Many say that if you introduce wheatarms, then there won't be scythe fights or wheat armour anymore, because even some glutenless ghoul would be able to kill a trained wheat knight with the pull of a wheatarm trigger. Some have been thinking up ways around this, such as making the wheatarms require some hands-on farming experience to operate, or involving Wheat Magick somehow.

My take on this is that this is 100% a skill issue. Is it that hard for some of you to just take a minute or two to think about how someone might win with a sickle in a wheat fight? Even Hollywheat could probably come up with a good solution to this with little effort.

The World of Wheat uses a simple solution: all weapons are potentially lethal, and open wounds can get infected. Just like Real Life™.

A guide to wheat diversity in the World of Wheat.

Wheat Capital: Wheat, flour, bread, barley, and rye. The last two are allowed within the wheaten walls solely because they are considered honorary wheat.

Wheatmonger Republics: Wheat, bread and barley. Any barley found outside the ghettos are set on fire by the authorities.

Everywhere else: Wheat. These places are usually too uncivilized to have much wheat sophistication.

Original Wheat Magick system, donut steel.

In the World of Wheat, there is gluten. Gluten flows through all things, and is what souls are made of. Gluten is a product of wheat, the most basic element of the universe. The purpose of Gluten is to facilitate Wheat Magick, which transforms gluten into Wheat Powers.

The rules of Wheat Magick are as follows:

  • Do not question the rules of Wheat Magick.
  • Wheat Magick is only to be used for combat and healing purposes; civilian, etc uses are prohibited.
  • There are two kinds of people in the World of Wheat: the Specials, who are chosen by the Wheat Goddess to wield gluten, and Poo People, who are allergic to gluten despite being made of wheat. This rule is necessary to avoid accusations of witchcraft.
  • To wield Wheat Magick you should be intelligent (don't ask what that means), wear a robe and optionally a wizard hat, and have no other capacity for violence. Any deviation from this ideal will hinder the flow of gluten.
  • Wheat Magick can be done either through your bare hands or a stalk of wheat. There are no other options. Don't even try.

Whosoever tries to steal this completely orginal system shall face the wrath of the Wheat Goddess.

How wheat guides all civilization in my wheatpunk world.

Wheat rules the world. The technology and economy are based on wheat, and society itself is built around the cultivation and worship of wheat. The Wheat Goddess is the one true god; all others are false gods that threaten reality itself by promoting alternatives to wheat.

There are no coincidences. All roads lead to wheat. Newton and Aristotle tried to turn people from the gospel of wheat, and have been unpersoned from the World of Wheat for their troubles.

One last thing: SCIENTIFIC DRAGONS SUCK! Instead, all my dragons are based on wheat.

In my wheatpunk world, the cybernetics are based on wheat.

This means that there's no risk of cyberpsychosis, since the gluten in wheat is all natural and cancels out the normal dehumanizing effects of cybernetics. The environmental factors are gone too, since humans have been growing wheat for thousands of years.

Gebō swa þat gebaiz.

Just now I decided to translate a certain (in)famous phrase from Latin.

How'd I do? Is "þat" by itself alright? Should I add the pronouns?

Most non-mammals don't have palates...

I've had the urge for a while now to try to figure out the linguistic implications of such a physiology.

Of course there won't be nasal phonemes, since they require a soft palate to lower. But what about everything else? How will this affect palatals, velars and so forth? Will there be greater emphasis on laterals? What new phonemes are possible with this physiology?

A maybe interesting coincidence I have found.

I decided to divide 21 by the golden ratio, and the result was 12.97[...]. This is right before 12 becomes 13; in other words, before The Hanged Man becomes Death.

Round up the number, and you get Death.

Combining OOP and structs-of-arrays?

I'm used to doing things with structs-of-arrays because they're easy to implement and work with. I never really bothered to learn OOP, because it didn't seem to offer much beyond modelling code on our misguided intuitions about how the world works.

I'm currently learning about and reevaluating OOP for reasons, which makes me wonder: is OOP compatible with structs-of-arrays, or am I missing something important?
