For living room gaming PCs, are we telling the TV it's a PC and enabling Game Mode, or are we telling it it's a Game Console (and still enabling Game Mode)?

Game Mode is still an option whether you setup the input as a PC or as a Game Console, but it does handle the input signal differently. I'm not enough of a videophile to describe the differences in how colors are displayed and whatnot, but I do know that the TV exposes different resolutions and refresh rates, meaning there must be some difference between these two options.

For what it's worth, when using this PC with this TV, I am indeed exclusively playing video games. I have a separate monitor that I use for more general "PC stuff." I'm also running Linux, for what it's worth, but I can't imagine that really makes a difference in this context. VRR, HDR, etc. are indeed available in both modes.

Thanks for any input!

Screen dims after one second of no mouse activity in Game Mode (handheld edition) when showing SDR content within HDR container

Hey team,

As of an update I ran today (previous update was roughly 5 days ago), when I'm in Game Mode, the screen dims after one second of no mouse activity (keyboard and gamepad activity does not "count" as activity--just mouse). I can confirm that the issue does not happen when the display is set to SDR, and it does not happen when displaying true HDR content in HDR mode. Only SDR in an HDR container. This means the Steam UI, and any SDR games, are affected by this behavior.

I have restored a snapshot for the time being and this did "fix" the problem. But I'm wondering if there's a proper fix so that I can get back to the latest packages.

Thanks for any input!

(Note - I'm well aware that many folks prefer to manually toggle off HDR when using SDR content. Please note that this is not my desired workflow for various reasons, and is therefore not a valid "solution" to this bug)

Apogee Space Station (Tools) - Bug affecting Leviathan Souls requirement (RPCS3 bug? Bug-bug?)?

Hello fellow space rats,

I had an unusual experience re-playing Tools of Destruction for the billionth time, this time via emulation with RPCS3. The previous evening I had just arrived at the Apogee Space Station level, the first place in Tools where you need to collect Leviathan Souls for the Smuggler in exchange for progression. This morning, when I went to resume my play-through, I had forgotten how many souls are required to progress, so I initiated a conversation with the Smuggler. I selected trade souls, thinking it would just trigger some dialog informing me how many souls are required, and to my surprise it just went through as if I had indeed collected the requisite number of souls, and allowed me to proceed to ride that pod thing to that platforming area leading up to the space station proper.

Did I just experience an emulation bug? Or perhaps did I inadvertently trigger a set of conditions for an actual bug-bug in the actual game?

Thanks for any thoughts!

Cloud saves (Gog)?

Hi team,

I have run three different versions of the plugin (0.5.6, 0.6.0, and 0.6.1), on two different distros (CachyOS, Bazzite), on two different pieces of hardware (Rog Ally, desktop PC), and cloud saves for my Gog games have never worked. No error messages or anything like that, no pop-ups indicating that it's attempting to sync cloud saves, etc. I have of course made a good-faith effort to research the issue myself, but there's very little discussion on this topic--just a single reddit thread with very few comments (one person asking if they need to do anything to enable it, another person asking if anything is required to enable, and a third person reminding folks that it is indeed a beta feature).

I fully recognize that this is a beta feature, but I still figured it can't hurt to ask, because this would be a huge quality-of-life upgrade for me, given that I do indeed use both a desktop and a handheld. It would be fantastic to be able to seamlessly switch between the two pieces of hardware for my Gog games, much like I can with my Steam games!

Thanks for any tips!

Hey team,

Without going into too much detail on the PC side, I am considering connecting my S90D to a switchable outlet and occasionally cutting power to the TV. Basically I have an annoying little problem with my multi-monitor setup, and at this point I've conceded that the operating system simply doesn't support my desired workflow, especially given that the TV still broadcasts its EDID and whatnot when it's in standby. So I'm considering going with the nuclear option and simply cutting power to the TV as part of my workflow for achieving my desired behavior (I've also considered going with an HDMI splitter device to cut the HDMI signal when desired, but unfortunately the options are either low-cost switches that don't reliably support high-bandwidth HDMI, or higher-quality switches that capture the EDID and continue sending it to the source even when that HDMI port is disabled via the switch, meaning it doesn't solve my problem).

I would of course default to providing power to the TV and keeping it in standby when I'm not using the TV or PC (overnight, through the workday, etc.) so that the panel care features could continue to operate as normal. So it's more a question of whether it's safe to habitually cut power to the TV.

Thanks for any input!

Hey y'all,

Shopping for screen protectors is a bit challenging given that many of us are rocking devices with resistive touch screens, rather than capacitive. Screen protectors are generally glass these days, which works great for capacitive touch screens, but not so much for resistive touch screens.

I'm looking for a screen protector for my newly-acquired iPaq h4150/4155. It's a fairly typical 3.5" 4:3 Pocket PC screen. There's plenty of 3.5" 4:3 screen protectors on the market, but like I said, most of them are glass (geared towards modern emulation-focused gaming handhelds a la /r/SBCGaming). And even more annoyingly, many of them have rounded corners.

Does /r/OldHandhelds have a "go-to" screen protector recommendation for this form factor? Specifically, 3.5" 4:3 with sharp corners, and made of thin plastic, rather than glass?

Thanks!
