I made the maple syrup Chex mix from the "sergeant fish & friends" post

I made the maple syrup Chex mix (link to original post in comments) because I am an adult with free will and free time, and I needed to order groceries today anyway. And also because I am very into all things maple.

I didn’t measure any of the dry ingredients (just went by vibes), but in total, they came up to around the 6 quart mark on my big bowl. Guestimated amounts:

Wheat Chex: 4 cups

Rice Chex: 4 cups

Corn Chex: 6 cups

Peanuts: 2 cups

Almonds: 1.5 cups

Pita chips: 2.5 cups

Pretzel sticks: 4 cups

I also didn’t measure the wet ingredients, which added up to 2 cups. It was something like this:

Maple syrup: .75 cup

Butter: .5 cup (there's only half a stick in the photo, but I ended up adding more because whenever something doesn’t taste quite perfect at first, butter is almost always the solution)

Soy sauce: .25 cup

Sesame oil: 3 tbsp

Liquid smoke: 2 tbsp

Cholula: 3 tbsp

I started out baking it at 250F because that's what most traditional baked Chex mix recipes say to do, but I kept increasing the temp to account for the sticky sauce requiring higher heat. I finished it off at 350F after about 80 minutes total.

It turned out really good...a little salty, a little sweet, a little bit of heat! The maple flavor wasn't as prominent as I thought it would be...not complaining, but if/when I make this again I'll probably ease up on some of the savory stuff to let the maple shine through a bit more.

I made a small batch of pickled red onions

Three pounds, six pints...hopefully this is enough to get me through the week.

My version of hardware store soup, featuring curry croutons

Inspired by the original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/somnigastronomy/s/0PqTH3xzxV

The standard Campbell's condensed vegetable soup available at my grocery has noodles in it, and I didn't want noods in this soup. I wanted straight up veg.

So instead, I bought a can of Campbell's Chunky savory vegetable soup (not condensed) and heated it up with a hefty glob of coconut milk and the requisite garam masala. The only other thing I added was a bit of salt.

I also had a loaf of sourdough bread that was getting stale, so I cubed it up and made croutons with olive oil, sesame oil, butter, salt, and curry powder.

It was extremely tasty and I will 100% be doing something like this again.

Post-nap couch goblin snack

Celery, cream cheese, peanut butter, oven dried tomatoes, cheese balls, smoked gruyère...featuring my orange Fiestaware bowl, as usual.

The only effort involved was making the tzatziki, which was barely any effort at all...like maybe five minutes to peel and halve a cucumber, scoop out the seeds, shred the cuke in my little food processor, and mix in Greek yogurt, jarlic, dill, and lemon juice. I made almost a quart of it a few days ago and have been eating it with every meal.

Not pictured: a delicious piece of baklava from the grocery store where I bought the naan and tinned goodies.

This was 100% inspired by other posts I've seen here with tinned fish and/or mini naan.
