10 days in and feeling like abstinence is impossible...and not sure I even want it

Hi all-- I'm just starting step one work with my sponsor, after about 10 days of working on my food plan, red and green food lists, etc. I'm feeling really down at the length of my "red" (ie abstinent) food list-- which includes everything I would have enjoyed eating...even cheese, butter , flours, sugar. I'm going through this very angry phase where I don't even want to go forward. I'm meeting friends at a restaurant tonight and I'm annoyed that I can only have a f'ing salad while they eat whatever, they will probably get cocktails and I won't...will these feelings pass? is it worth it to continue? I don't want food to rule my life but I also don't want to live like a monk in the middle of my busy (and fun) city. I'm posting this in hopes to hear other people's experiences ... I'd love to hear your relationships with abstinence. Thanks !

Looking for a sponsor-- big book focused

Hi I am new to OA but spent a few weeks in FA. I have a decent food plan working for me but I'm really interested in "Working the steps" with guidance and support. If you are available to sponsor and you have that interest/ approach, I would love to connect. I am 50F and in NYC.

NYC clubs for U14 girls

Hi all, I'd love some recommendations for solid U14 girls travel teams in Brooklyn or Manhattan. My daughter (Dec 2012) is currently playing U14 for GJOA in Brooklyn, 3rd year on the team. She's developed nicely as a player and likes it a lot and definitely wants to play through high school. Most of her team are older than her, and with the new age changes she could actually play U14 again next year, but not with GJOA who doesn't have a current U13 girls team. And then, GJOA sent an email today to our team explaining how since most of their high school age players also play for their school teams, the team my daughter would be on next year (U15) will only have half a season of games (starting in Nov) to allow the players to play for the high schools in Sept-Oct. I hd no idea this was what they did in the high school level. But my daughter will only be in 8th grade next year, so no high school team to play on...so now she is just having this weird fall season with games only after Nov? So now, suddenly, we are thinking, shoot, she should try out for U14 with other clubs...clubs with a stronger high school age pathway. (Unless this is normal in NYC for travel teams adjust to the high school team schedules??). I know about DUSC and BKU, are there any other teams we should consider? Especially high-integrity, great coaching clubs...we loved GJOA for those aspects but their older girls program just doesn't seem robust enough. Thanks for any advice or recommendations-- also advice in snagging tryouts so last minute!

If you are a Coop member, please join members and staff who are pushing to move the upcoming votes (on boycott and supermajority rules) from the general meeting floor to a referendum — an electronic ballot emailed to every member.

Why it matters: A referendum is truly "one member, one vote". Members can vote asynchronously, from anywhere — not just those who can attend the meeting in person. This lets the full Coop community weigh in on major decisions, instead of a small group setting our direction.

What to do:

  1. Register at foodcoop.com to attend virtually
  2. Join the next general meeting: Tuesday, May 26
  3. Vote YES to referendum when prompted

Your presence at the General Meeting really matters, as does having enough members who want to see major issues voted on via Referendum. Thank you for helping keep our Coop democratic.
