The Power Line Corridor
Hello there, my name is Jimmy, and I tell you what... I moved to the weirdest area I've ever been to in my entire life man... Florida, in a small town called, "Milton." I'm originally from Houston Texas, but I had gotten tired of the crazy hustle and bustle of the City, and already new Milton was a small, laid back lil town were I used to visit my cousins on my dad's side of the family.
My house has a plot of woods in the back that has a small lil trail that leads to an opened up field with a power line corridor built upon it, that stretches a good mile or so off into the green distance; the other end a half a block till the highway. The lattice structures are like looming giants standing in line. The area is like it's own lil world it seems. It must be because... shit man, I have been seeing some creepy bizarre shenanigans going on out there.
The strip of land has one long winding dirt road for utility crew trucks to get out here for maintenance. It's even used by the locals here and there, walking about or with their dogs, even have a street light by the dirt road that the city put in for the break of dawn people, stretching their legs in the morning enjoying the sunrise with their pets. Some mystery person or more has decided to hang chimes along down the way on every other branch, every few or more feet however long back, is a mystery to me.
I haven't been having the best sleep lately. It takes awhile to wind down at my age, which is 42; so I go out at night and walk around with my cat if she's out and about, she'll kinda follow me here and there; a Siamese at that, so very particular in her ways, her name is Lily.
I only have time to explain my first experience at the moment, but will be back to fill you in as it gets more interesting out here along the way.
On my third night living in my new home I had walked out to the backyard and decided to go to the corridor area and look about with my flashlight. It was early autumn and felt mildly cool outside. I was restless and wanted to stretch my legs a bit and puff a hooter. I figured why not have a lil minnie adventure.
It was about 4 in the morning, still dark and so very quiet except for the occasional buzz of an insect. I walked out to the lil streetlight and stood there awhile, puffin away and paused at the subtle sound of the chimes lazily clinking together...but there was no wind. It was very still outside for the chimes to be knocking about... I started to stroll about and heard something stepping about through the foilage which startled me a bit till I noticed it was my lil pussy head, Lily... sorry, I call her that, making weird name stuff up as I pet her sometimes and it stuck so I'm like, "Hey pussy head what you doing?" So... anyway, she answers with a meow while I reach down to pet her for a bit and the atmosphere just seems to feel so...off.
The chimes completely stopped out of nowhere. I looked all about till I noticed Lily staring intently into the woods across the way opposite of where I came through the trail from my house. We lingerd that way for a bit until the trees started slowly swaying side to side in unison with each other. Lily took off behind me towards the house. I don't blame her because it felt like there was a looming presence behind all that dark, tenebrous foilage of oaks and palm trees.
There was no friggin wind, but they were moving all the same. Then as I looked closer the shadows of darkness started to slither around the trees like tendrils of moving smoke, it felt like a dream. I stood there stuck. The green and black started to merge together like churning liquid and...and faces began to form on the leaves and darkness; some yelling, some laughing and screaming with ears that seemed pointed, along with hearing a strange language I've never heard before. Once this horn like sound began to deeply blare from the deep of the woods I broke from my frozen shock and started to run back towards the trail.
I remember being so scared to even run through that side of short woods toward my house, wondering if the trees would come alive and grab me with shaggy, leering faces smiling and laughing, but all was still on that side and I made it through to my back yard. Lily was hiding somewhere...I stood there for bit and could here this galloping back and forth through the trees. It sounded huge and thunderous, and then it all just faded to nothing...just silence. Nothing could be heard but those damn chimes ghostly clanking again.
After a few minutes Lily came out urgently meowing, wanting to go back in the house and I readily obliged her. I didn't sleep that night at all, I felt frozen on what to do. It was the first time I've ever had an experience like that, but not my last...it was all so surreal and terrifying. This was my first introduction to the otherworldliness of the corridor. This is all I am revealing for now, but so much more has happened here and I will soon tell more of what I have witnessed and found out by talking with the locals and what they have experienced. Goodbye for now and thank you for listening. I don't blame you for questioning my sanity...hell I would too.
