For anybody that started a club at tech, how did you go about finding a faculty mentor?

I think GT should have a poker club (no gambling!), and really want to try to start one. Trying to find a professor to supervise the club is naturally a bit tricky here, and made even trickier by the fact that I've only spent one sem at GT so I don't know as many professors as maybe a third year would. I definitely don't think any of the ECE professors I've taken courses with would be interested, and want to see if just messaging professors that might do research in related topics (quant, finance, stats) would be interested. Anyone have any insight on this? Thank you!

why do you guys think Gao the Arsonist isn't bigger

i feel like 'and they mine for our bodies' had the same production quality and better lyrical content of something like half blood except it also had aura, if half blood (deservingly) was able to do so well why wasnt gao?

how selective is the conference comsol (in particular the Boston one happening in October)

First time applicant just curious, am I right in assuming that as long as you submit an abstract that's somewhat novel and non trivial you'll probably get in? Seems more like a cool showcase of community work than a competitive research conference

has anyone found the Career Advising center useful?

going into my third year of EE with no internships so far but alot of research experience that i think should be applicable to employers. not sure if this is because im not missing something, i have a template from r/engineeringresumes i use and just apply thru application portals. i know that applying thru sites is very difficult right now because of the intense competition in all engineering disciplines, so im planning to present some research work at conferences this fall too and hope that makes me more visible to employers. anyways, i want to get more suggestions about ways to make myself employable and feel like visiting the career advising center makes sense, and was just curious what the consensus on their usefulness in general is?

"Connecting" two beam envelope domains together?

I'm trying to do photonic simulation across a large scale setup so EWFD doesn't work and I care about inteference, so ray optics doesn't work either. I'm left with using the Beam Envelopes package, but the caveat with that is that you can only really move light in two directions with EWBE, while I want to move in at least 3. My current idea is to then have two different domains, one of them allowing light to go down and right and the other allowing light to up and right. Is the easiest way from here to analytically calculate all the laser parameters that come out from one domain and serve that as an input to the next? Is there any easier way to move in 2+ directions in a large scale direction while retaining interference and loss? Thank you!

Experiences with recuiters at conferences?

I'm an undergrad doing research and want to aim to present some work at a conference sometime closer to winter. Obviously it's an uphill battle as an undergrad to get even an intrnship in QC, but was just curious as to what people's experiences were with meeting recruiters and having that convert to j*b offers in QC? Or networking in general

I had a course I took at my previous university recognized as ECE4502, but just today it got updated for ECE6771. 4502 helped me meet my circuit tech requirements, 6771 doesn't. It doesn't even technically meet the 3/4XXX level course requirement, cuz its a 6XXX course now. Do grad courses usually not count towards undergrad threads or do I just have to talk to someone about this? Anyone have any experience with this? Thank you!
