salvaging parts. rotating into next mod. ...

at what point do you stop ordering parts and just pull from older mods and builds. parts purchasing fatigue. im at a crux. tired of buying parts old or new. but pulling from older builds i feel dirty. abandoning frames feels so heartless.

what's your rule if you have one.

and yes im over thinking it. but i know im not alone.

something changed and its gonna take years to reverse if it even does

i've noticed something change over the last decade.

its not just that people have less money. it feels like some patients genuinely resent giving money to someone they percieve as "already doing well," even when its for their own health.

i've watched people put off treatment while literally dealing with abscesses or obvious infections, then turn around and spend hundreds every week on amazon, doordash

its almost like two ideas are fighting each other. they want healthy teeth, but they dont want to feel like they're making their dentist richer.

whats funny is they'll spend hours rage posting about billionaires on social media while generating ad revenue for billion dollar companies without even thinking about it.

the psychology is wild. paying amazon feels invisible. paying your dentist feels personal.

we've entered the personal economy.

sure some towns and cities don't have this. pts whip out the cc and do the right thing. and sure some greedy dentists have stained our profession. i totally get it.

my pt yesterday is bragging about a 30k garage remodel to house his three boats in mexico. but is balking on a bridge or implant. he thinking about tijuana for tx. i get it missing tooth don't hurt. i told him with a straight face, if you can find a reputable dentist in mexico , go for it. you'll have money leftover for boat gas.

i'm not going to waste time with it.

can't find #9 control valve

previous homeowners left us a decent map of front yard and back yard control box/valves. living here 7 years i just noticed in the back yard there's no #9 on their map. nor can i find a box with #9 of course. back yard has 1 -10. and i check boxes for extra valves not labeled. none. and #9 area does work from control panel. so it does exist.

any thoughts or ideas appreciated. my fear is they buried it under their custom planter concrete box by accident. or it's under a bush. but i can't find it. it would have to be one valve alone in a box. all other boxes have multiples.

lol.

go ahead. laugh at me. but i still need answers.

i had a 98 rockhopper sport laying around with mis matched wheels. got bored and tried to slap my mavicma40s laying around. sure enough they fit. sure enough pad don't reach.

what are the hacks i can use to make this work and no im not trying to pretend i invented something new. some of you get triggered with that. im just an old timer pushing parts around the garage.

bike looks sick btw. thanks in advance.

ring finger injuries due to ring

ive been dealing with a nasty weed thorn in my thumb. 5 weeks of drainage/ healing cycling. it's finally turned a corner. i almost went to my local urgent care center. i noticed years ago the ownership changed but didn't think anything of it. come to find out the doc lost his ring finger while working in his yard. something grabbed his wedding ring and ripped the damn thing off. so he retired. of course i read up on this type of injury and it could even be worse. getting degloved. skin off bone still there. wtf.

ive heard of this for many years but this sorta hits home . i've had close calls in the garage with things catching my ring etc. i heard some guys can use silicon faux wedding bands that will break before damaging the finger.

id love to hear some stories out there re this.

hedubledmyproductionbro

i ran into an old colleague across town. nice guy very naive he inherited his dads office. total cash cow. your typical 2nd generation non founder mentality. isn't too arrogant pretty damn close though. he wife and mom run a lot of the admin. he drives a red sports car and parks it in front of his office. no joke. he's bragging about his new consultant which i used btw 16 years ago. decent consultant. but knows how to extract money from a client - there are better consultants around. i tried to warn him but didn't go well he in the coolaid deep. it's all good. his first comment though was

" he doubled my production bro "...

  1. my first thought was how bad was the inital production? - i've heard and seen reviews - he's run into some rough spots. 2. don't give too much credit to the consultant because he's already great at taking more credit than he deserves - dentists and teams do the real work. 3. last thought was don't over extend his invite. boot him after 12months.

whats the point of my post? dentists today need to self examine a little better. don't idolize consultants. use them but don't give them too much credit - they are already great at that.

if your production doubles thats great. rem you did most of the heavy lifting. the consultant comes in and gives new energy and direction. but "he" didn't "double" it for you . why does that trigger me? because these guys are great at pricing their fees against the "double".... instead of pricing them against what they really do- offer tips and suggestons.

i love dia compe brakes. imo they are the godfather of brakes. many oem's absorbed their designs.

but why do i hate their aero brake levers? pointy rubber hoods. overall feel like shit in my hand. c record imo fit perfect and look great. but i can't nor won't mix levers with calipers.

i have dia compe on my vint roadie. and love them. i raced bmx way back and dc was the gold standard.

everytime i see dc aero levers i think of steve bauer with his short diesel legs getting dropped going up the col du glandon.

help me please.
