I would follow the Granthams & Crawleys to the ends of time...

Seriously. I just watched The Grande Finale yesterday. It closed everything I 'needed' closed from the series and previous movies. I wept at the end when Mary stood in the hall and saw everyone as they were in the past.

But, I am still bereft! I quite need the storytelling. The wit. The ups and the downs. The drama! I need that in my life.

I would follow them to the ends of time. I'm sure I'm not the first one to come here and say it, but if Fellows, et alia, decided to do a series of prequels, going back to at least the 18th century and honestly? I'd be delighted if they took it back as far as it could go. I would be there.

Just imagine! So many of our beloved characters could, if the actors so desired, reprise their roles as their own ancestors. Since they've been in the village for so long, we could learn backstories to all the staff of DA and even perhaps the village itself.

If I begged would there be a possibility of the show being reprised and taken back in time?

Sandals for Rachel's Wedding

9x12 Arches coldpress. W&N professional and Holbein WCs + Holbein gouache for the highlights.

I posted this piece a few weeks ago in another WC sub asking for critiques because I see so much wrong with it. Many people told me I was nuts, one even suggested therapy (not exactly a helpful critique), and others said they loved the painting.

<takes a big breath> SOoo! I decided to enter it into an exhibition. And, I just found out it was accepted! This is my second ever art exhibition. I'm 62yo and have been focused on oils since '21 (I was a graphic arts major back in the 80s and oils always intimidated me). This is my second exhibition ever, both paintings from my first in May sold and that seems to have lit a fire under me.

The theme for this exhibition is "Togetherness" and these sandals hold an entire life story behind them.

^(Rachel is the first child of my best friends in high school. They got pregnant when we were 15yo, they married when we were 16 (1980) and she was born a few months later. They are still together today, after having raised a family of three girls while he served over 33yrs in the Army. Every girl, woman I should say, is happy, well educated, and are just absolutely incredible, admirable women. I honestly envy the family my old friends have created, despite all the hurdles that faced them from a very young age (both their mothers were severely schizophrenic and couldn't raise them).)

^(Rachel was married in 2014, all the way across the country and I was over the moon when she invited us. I spent months planning for the trip and part of my planning, of course, was what would be worn. Hers is still the only wedding I've cried at and even just thinking about it gets me verklempt. This is from a photo where I'd simply put the shoes together on the floor and quickly snapped a photo and I really don't even remember why I took that photo. I ran across it recently and thought maybe it would make an interesting painting.)

I'm still really new to WC and I feel like this is the grown-ups table and I should be at the kids' table. But I had to share and I felt like this was the sub most suited.

Why isn't earth's gravity equally distributed?

Side question: When and how did we discover that it isn't equally distributed?

I used the earth sciences flair but I'm not sure if that's the correct flair for this question.

Recommend a pest control outfit?

We have ants AGAIN, and last week I found a mouse turd in the new pantry we built and I'm worried about termites. Can anyone recommend an outfit? There are so many and we've been canvassed but I'd prefer to go with someone locals can recommend.

If you are willing to discuss prices I would be very grateful for that, too.

Please help: Plein air backpack is massive

I'm ready to take up more plein air painting and have been gathering up my supplies. I have an inexpensive easel+tripod setup, my husband has built me a plein air box, he'll be building me a panel carrier, I have my little camp stool (I can't stand for long periods of time, I also can no longer hike), and I bought this... "backpack."

This thing can only be described as massive. It's bigger than the hiking backpack my husband bought me years and years ago. I look like a turtle, it covers my entire body and then some. It's far too big. Did I mention I look like a turtle? I could probably use it as a tent if my legs would fold up. I'm <5'1" tall if that helps.

I went back to searching for backpacks and I can't find anything that will fit the easel and camp stool, which are 22" when folded up. While I sew, I don't have it in me to tear into this massive turtle backpack thing and try to fit it to my needs. Currently I have a couple of fabric totes that are open-topped and easily let things fall out and they're just not working well for me when I want to go outside not at home and try to paint.

Does anyone have a solution? A slightly bigger-than-regular backpack? Or..??

P.S. I love my husband so much and I'm always so proud of the things he does for me and I'm super proud of the paint box he built for me. I couldn't do even half the stuff I can if it weren't for him.

My cuadro de watercolor, Boqueron en 2006

Disculpe, porque mi espanol no es bueno (estoy practicando cada dia pero no recuerdo las palabras cuando de nina).

This is from a photo I took back in 2006. It was the last time I got to be on the island for an extended period, the last time I got to be with my grandparents in San German before they had to go to a nursing home, and it was the last time I was able to enjoy my favorite place on this earth. They told me I was fluent as a child but I just don't remember. Pero practico, cada dia.

In any event, I found this photo and I had to paint it. I hear there have been big changes in Cabo Rojo and Boqueron and it makes me so deeply sad because what I hear isn't good. But I hope you enjoy this from not so long ago.

Stop asking us how we find inspiration!

Honestly, stop whining about it! Get off your ass and go draw something! If you can't find inspiration somewhere maybe being an artist isn't for you.

I've lost track of how many posts are surrounding not having inspiration, or the will to draw. If you can't find inspiration around you then how tf are the rest of us going to help you find it?

I have such a long way to go

I think I lost the sketch and I know I lost the lights but I've been working on this for 2 weeks and I have to call it.

Sandals For Rachel's Wedding. 9x12 Arches cold press W&N and Holbein watercolor & Holbein gouache for the highlights.

Rachel is the oldest child of my best friends from high school and they got pregnant with her when we were all 15, circa 1979. These are sandals I bought for her wedding.

I'm open to critiques and suggestions for improvement.

"Microdosing" Wegovy pill by taking every other/few days?

I am so grateful I found this sub! I've done some searching but haven't quite found what I'm looking for.

At the beginning of the year I bought my first Rx of the Wegovy 1.5mg pill in February and was only able to tolerate it for less than a week (ended up in urgent care, then ER, unable to work or function). I haven't regained all of the weight I lost in that week, but most of it.

I still have the standing Rx from my doc and the entire rest of this bottle and the idea of taking it, say, once a week or every couple of days has been niggling at me. Especially when I feel my belly.

But, my PCP left and now I have a new doctor and I really don't know how receptive she would be to that idea. She's not renewing my Rx for ezetimibe because she wants me to try a statin again (I also didn't tolerate that well and stopped).

Has anyone here done this? If so, how did you titrate? Did it work? I've lived pretty much my entire life on diets or dieting and I've been over it for a minute now. I'm post-menopausal and in my early 60s.

Tea to butter using pan paints?

I recently learned about this idea in watercolor and it's pretty easy to wrap my head around. However, achieving that when working with pan paints hasn't been as simple or easy as I though.

I figured simply putting a few drops of water in the pans and letting them soak a few minutes would get me to butter, but the best I seem to be able to achieve is milk. Hitting the pans repeatedly isn't doing the trick, either. Leaving longer is leading to drying out, not softer paints.

I prefer the pans because it's kinda one and done, not a matter of buying tubes to *then* transfer into pans (and that I believe are going to become essentially pan paints once they dry out, correct?). I'm doing most of my watercolors on the go (while I work, so also usually in the car).

Am I relegated to multiple washes, each one presenting a new opportunity to royally mess things up? I've been searching, a-watchin' the YouTube and a-searchin'.

First art exhibition = first opening gala night; what's a lady to wear?

My compatriots, you've helped me tremendously in the past and I come to you again. I'm sure at least one of you has done this before, but I have not (I love that I get to add something new to my "I've done this" list at my age). I've never shown my art before and I haven't been to an "opening night gala" since I was a kid showing horses in the 70s.

I was going to wear a sporty sweater set at the event but I don't think I should just wear the same thing the whole time. Plus, this is evening and the exhibition is daytime. I only found out about the ONG this morning and the event is on the 29th.

I run thick & short and really prefer to stay modest. I detest shopping in store anymore but I have a tape measure and use it frequently for online shopping.

Oh, apparently it's a VIP event.

Backstory: My mom (87yo, registered dietitian) developed metastatic breast cancer 4yrs ago, which invaded her spine & pelvis, but also when they did the lumpectomy found a 3cm mass in her lung, performed a lobectomy shortly after and up until last October she was being treated.

She is now on hospice care at home as of 2-3mos ago. 2 weeks ago Dad (87yo, former radiologist M.D.) called me to tell me that it's a matter of weeks, not months for her.

I'll be visiting soon, possibly/likely the last time I'll see her alive. That's a whole thing in and of itself. My uncle, her brother, is also coming while I'll be there and I'm very grateful that I'll be able to see him, too.

Yesterday at the end of my workday my youngest son called me and said basically something along the lines of "it's not as bad as it sounds," and "I don't want you to freak out like other people are," and then he told me he has testicular cancer and is having one testicle removed the day after I arrive in the area.

Since I'll be out there I'm going to drive down to my son's place, stay the night at least one night, take him to the hospital and stay for the surgery. He's being imaged today but right now it looks like it hasn't spread so no chemo or radiation therapy. I can only pray that stays true because it's aggressive, he found a marble 7 weeks ago and it's grown significantly. I know this cancer is highly treatable with excellent long term prognoses for men of his cohort, and I know he wants to bank his sperm 'just in case.'

My question to my fellow ladies: I don't think we should tell my mother given that she's living her last days, but I question whether or not to discuss with my *very* clinical but probably also stressed and exhausted father.

I've talked to my husband, but my son hasn't told anyone else in the family. My husband is not handling it well at all (my sons are his stepsons, his son is mine). He's either crying or on the verge and right now I feel awful for telling him. He keeps asking if I'm ok, but honestly I feel numb.

I don't really have friends I can discuss this with and I don't quite have the level of trust with, or availability of my priests (we literally have no email or phone numbers to contact them, a huge shift from our former pastors). This is the sort of thing I have *always* gone to my parents to talk about but now it feels wrong to burden them.

I know I'll have to explain why I'm flying in to be with Mom but then driving to my son's the very next day. I'll be coming back the day after that to pick my uncle up from the airport. My folks live just over an hour away from the nearest airport in a somewhat rural area and Uber, etc, are expensive when available.

...

Do I tell my son to go ahead and talk to his grandfather? He asked my opinion yesterday and I still feel that we shouldn't tell Mom, but I'm completely unsure about talking to my father. I know if we don't tell him I'll have to make up a story about why I need to drive out to my son's place, and I know it won't quite sit right. I have an incredibly hard time lying to my parents.

More backstory about Dad: He's probably one of the cleanest and, in times of emergency, most stoic people I know. He's also one of those 'silent givers'. If he knew someone was sick, he did all the things for them, consistently and persistently. He would sit their deathbeds and has sat more deathbeds than I can remember. By all accounts he appears to be handling Mom's impending death very well. But, I worry about him.
