All my Plein Airs from the Lost Sierra Paint Out
Here’s all the paintings I did up in Quincy CA for the Lost Sierra plein air paint out, a 4 day event. At the end, each artist picks their best two for showing and judging for awards. I was caught between the waterfall and the trees painting for my second, with the mountain scene being selected.
Sorry for some of the odd photos, I had to do framing from my campsite.
The between-the-trees painting looked great with the light I had while painting, but changed and looked different framed, so I went with the waterfall. I guess I’m glad I did, the waterfall painting ended up getting a ribbon!
The mountain painting was the biggest plein air I’ve tried, 20x16. It’s hard to tackle a big canvas when you’re not sure how it will turn out, easier to wipe an away an 8x10 stinker and start over after 30 minutes when it’s obvious.
The painting of the shed with the mountains.. I’m not sure why it didn’t turn out, let me know any critiques.
Second to last was a 90 minute “quick draw.”
Also, tried my first figure painting in the wild.
I’m exhausted 😅
Let me know what you think!
