I’m wanting to go out and plein air paint but keep putting it off because “I don’t have the setup or equipment” but then I never invest in one because I’m not sure if plein air painting is something I see myself doing alot of in the future. it’s feeling like an excuse to me. (I’m an oil painter)
Realistically, what is the absolute most bare minimum setup or equipment I can use to comfortably plein air paint?
I own various pallets, a spare square glass one , a few cheap wooden ones, a larger wooden one that I typically use, and one plastic one that has a lid that closes but I hate using it cause of how small it is.
I also own a small tripod that I could use to diy an easel.
If I used mostly nothing but what I already own, do you think I could diy some sort of easel?
I also want to mention that I have painted outdoors before, but sitting on a log praying my expensive medium doesn’t get knocked over is something I’m tired of worrying about.
Critique welcome on this one. I feel like it’s too childish and there are not enough variations in the colours. Should I work it more in the studio or scrap it? 6x12” oils

I usually always work a bit more on my painting when I come home. Because time is limited. I don’t know if it’s correct or not, but I still consider it as a plein air painting 😃

Forgot my palette for this one so had to mix everything in a tinier tin than usual. It turned out looser than I was originally intending but I’m still happy with it. Painted in gouache.
