My first plein air attempt!
A bit tricky with the square canvas for this scene, but overall happy with it. I used acrylic markers, so my color options were a bit limited. I was also on a time limit!
Excited to get out there again, and next time I’m bringing my full painting setup!
A couple of quick painting studies at Ruby Beach, Olympic National Park from last week
The larger painting is nowhere near done, but the light was changing like crazy and I had to get scooting down the road towards my next stop. I hope I can finish it in the studio soon!
First time painting in the woods!
Quick study and new to oil so still learning :) it was really meditative to focus on light and shadows while listening to the birds.

Plein air study from the Hollywood Hills, painted a few weeks ago with Danny Folkman. I meant to post this, got caught up with work.
Here I focused on Southern California’s color relationships: muted greens, warm earth, low chroma, and blue-violet distance.
Vermont Square Park, Toronto
Some old ladies who always hang out with their dogs where I was painting liked the painting so I gave it to them.
Dahlia farm, southeast MI
The variety is called "Fluffles"
Acrylic on canvas. About two hours. 9x12

A painting I did during Plein Air Montana 2026! I also have a video of all my paintings here: https://youtu.be/uWnFKPM67Is
First Nocturne Plein Air
I came on here about a week ago asking for advice on this painting and I finally went back and finished it. Thanks for all the advice it really helped and book lights are a godsend.
The last picture is the end of day one when I felt like the painting was gonna go in the reject pile.

Schroon lake
I live in Albany NY, but traveled up to Schroon lake in the Adirondacks for the weekend. Here are some pleinair gouache paintings 🤩 it’s such a gorgeous area.
If you’re in Albany or around upstate, hit me up, I’d love a painting buddy 🙂
My first EVER Plein air.
Be nice if you’re going to critique (bc this was so challenging!😂), but holy cow a new appreciation for Plein air after this am! It’s kinda stressful, but so rewarding! Happy to be apart of this group! Will be adding fine details later this week, and then it’ll be up at the St Charles Plein Air Exhibit on Sunday!
Somerset Boat Center
Got to spend my morning with a coffee and my painting box down by the canal!
Escondido Highlands Plein Air
Plein air gouache study painted yesterday along the trail at Elfin Forest Reserve.
I'm becoming increasingly interested in the temperate climate of Southern California as a body of work: dry vegetation, muted greens, warm earth, blue-violet distance, and the atmospheric compression that ties it together. I have resisted the urge to revise in the studio as I feel it is a direct record of the decisions, color notes, and conditions of the field.
