I just cut my finger while dissecting chicken.

Hello,

So it's as the title says. I put a plaster on after running my finger under cold water for about 2 mins and trying to stop the bleeding with cotton. It barely reduced the flow of blood so I just put the plaster on anyway.

The thing is, my hands are not sterile and are still have bits chicken membrane and juice. I'm wearing a fabric plaster but it's but really on securely as I needed to put it in asap to stop a trail of blood all over the kitchen.

My main question is, will I get an infection if I wait for my blood to clot before removing the plaster and properly watching my hands?

I'm sorry if I'm breaking so many hygiene codes rn but I live alone, so I'm only a danger to myself.

Thanks!

Edit:

Thanks to everyone who contributed. I'll keep in mind next time to focus on the cleaning before panicking and trying to stop the blood at all costs. I washed my hands twice with soap for extra measure, dried it and a new plaster is on.

Also, I'm pretty sure this happened because my knife isn't amazingly sharp. I was just cutting through a thick-ish skin clump. I have been looking at knife sharpening so I will definitely get one tomorrow because I'm not having this again!

What does this interview feedback mean?

Good morning,

I got feedback on my interview. I didn't get the role, fair enough and I didn't agree with the scores - 2s for 3 behaviours. Again, disappointed.

In the overall feedback, all it said was: "Described activities from her job role and did not answer questions with supporting evidence."

I have no idea what this means. Was I supposed to break GDPR?

I felt I interviewed well because I prepared very well against the behaviour success profiles. I did the STAR method with so many actions and reasoning and explanations and intentions, reflections. I repeatedly referred back to the question. They were my real experiences at work.

What they put in the feedback, is that not how you do an interview? What more did they want? I know it's subjective but it feels utterly demoralising to feel like you did really well, be scored a 2 and then have seemingly nonsense written feedback.

If you've been on a panel, in what way is someone supposed to make sense of "Described activities from her job role and did not answer questions with supporting evidence."?

What can I make with these items?

Hi all, I'm ill and in pain and I really don't feel like cooking. Unfortunately my batch cooked meal ran out last night so I have no dinner.

I currently have (rough measurements):

- 100g Parmesan

- 900ml soy milk

- 100g spaghetti

- A LOT of Jasmin rice

- 200-300g frozen mixed veg (carrot, beans, sweetcorn, peas)

- 150g mustard.

- A few frozen tbsp tomato paste.

- A LOT of red split lentils (but I don't feel like making daal. That's too much effort for me tonight).

I've got lots of spices and I have plain flour and butter and oil and salt and pepper etc.

The goal is low prep, minimal standing over the cooker, ready in about 30 mins max.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cycle2work - Worth it on £27k?

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of joining the Cycle2work scheme. Regardless I'll be cycling to work by the end of the year, but I'm seeing the upfront cost for a lot of what I need is cheaper on the cycle to work scheme.

From my estimate of what I think all the initial gear would cost (£1100), the generic calculator said an estimate of (£798) £66 per month.

I've heard that you pay an amount after the 12 months - and also with an Alpha pension (the only salary sacrifice thing I have - no student loan) you might not save all that?

What are some things I should consider before joining or not joining the scheme?

I cannot do my work today.

Hey everyone,

I work a 9-5 and it's generally the same work day in day out. Business and customer service admin

This morning I woke up and was mentally ready to be in for 9, but my body said 9:30am. I'm at work now, it's 12:30pm and I have had the desire to do the work but I just can't.

I completed about 5 tasks today, which is very low compared to my normal. I know I should go easy on myself and it should pass eventually, but I can't help but feel frustrated and slightly guilty.

If my manager asks me what I've done today, the concept of having to explain that it's my best - despite not being busy is giving me mild dread.

Anyways, I hope you're all having a lovely day xx

HP Pavilion Laptop wont fully work.

Hi all,

I have been using this all day, and suddenly about 30 mins ago I was unable to wake the laptop. It's in sleep mode right now. As you can see, I can't turn it on or off via the power button. The screen only shows for a few seconds when I plug in the charger. But the laptop has plenty of charge as you can see. Date and time are correct.

I tried Ctrl+Alt+Delet numerous times. It's not in the video but it doesn't recognise my track pad either.

UPDATE:

As I was writing, I remembered it's also touch screen. Touch screen works and I can use it fine. I'm now able to get into the laptop. But it's stuck in tablet mode even though it's in desktop mode physically. I've flipped it to full 270° and back to desktop and it's not reverting. Screen is still in tablet mode.

Does anyone know how to help?

Do I have a warped perception, or is my financial situation normal? 21F

Hi everyone, I'm aware it's not a financial advice sub, but I think it's best to lay it all out for the most accurate responses. I'm a very frugal person and I didn't expect adulthood to be like this.

Currently I'm earning £28k (full time) and I live alone in Manchester for £850pcm. My take home is about £1900. I really value saving so I save a mandatory £300 immediately (was £400 at the start of the year, but life happened as well as my salary being eaten up by bill and increases). As of last month (excluding savings going out) my bills are £1111. (Edit £1111 includes my rent).

My monthly budget (what I aim for):

Transport pass: £40

Groceries: £100

Household/toiletries/unexpected: £75

Therapy: £120 max

Fun (food from restaurants/cafes etc, entertainment, shopping): Whatever's left after I pay off my credit card.

I usually dip into my credit card for groceries, and things I really want to do but I have no money left in my "Fun" budget. I try to keep it as low as possible but I'm the last few months it has been closer to £100 and sometimes more.

I have another zero hours job that I am paid minimum wage for. Average per month is about 25-30hrs, but can be way more some months if we have a long-running show (since it's a theatre). Until this year, I was using this job for a 70% savings and 30% sinking fund from every payment.

Now I can't even afford to have fun, let alone a sinking find because it feels like my second job is paying for my immediate fun and debt. I barely go out to have fun, and I feel slightly guilty when I buy something that isn't "useful" or needed. I feel like I manage my money very well, and I'm not sure what else I can do except get a higher paying role.

Even then, I'm not sure it would be much give. I don't have any family, so it's not like I can be pardoned of a few pounds here and there.

I know I'm not entitled to UC, so it literally is just me and my earnings.

So yeah, back to my question: Is this normal? I see so many people who are shopping for non-essentials and going out to eat and entertainment and I get so jealous. Of course I say to myself, they might not be able to afford it either as consolation. But I want to be able to afford it and not feel guilty.

For context, living alone and working full time has been my life for 2.5 years and it's just felt so hard this year.

My passion for life is disappearing. I don't know what to do.

I used to be interested in a lot. I used to be creative, and inquisitive and actually look forward to life.

I'm only 21, and there's not much that I can confidently say I love. When I was younger I loved Dance, Astrology, K-pop, Theatre, TV-Shows, Decorating, Concerts, Puzzles, Food, Crafting, Travel.

The reason why I'm posting, is because a conversation with an acquaintance today has stuck with me. They thought it was sad that I don't really love anything, that I don't really have strong emotions about things. Thankfully I still have strong opinions. But strong emotions, that's something I seem to have lost.

It doesn't help that my whole life I've felt untethered and disconnected from everyone around me. Back then, I didn't mind because, in brief moments, I shared passion with people through hobbies and interests. Now, I don't even have that.

Part of me thought that it's part of being an adult under capitalism. But idk, I've been living alone and working full-time (37hrs) for 2.5 years now.

Part of me thinks it's because I don't have any family, or a solid friendship. More recently I've been thinking to myself "What's the point if only I know about my life?". I'm really not a fan of posting on social media - even to people I know.

Part of me thinks this is a result of long-term burnout. I've been feeling burnt-out for about 9 months and I've recently had a mental health crisis. So maybe it's that?

Today, that person asked me about multiple things, and I kept saying "I think it's alright", because that's the truth for right now. That's so awful. Why is evening "alright" and "okay" to me now?

Idk I just hate that I'm like this. I miss my old self. I'm sad that I'm not the person that goes down rabbit holes, or spends hours stuck into who knows what.

Now all I do is watch random shows and videos - mainly to just have something on - in my spare time. I miss my drive and desire for life.

I booked a holiday 6 months ago, and now I'm not even that excited. It's a fucking exciting holiday on paper, but I'm not that excited. I was when I booked it though. I think I'd still enjoy myself but I'm worried that I won't enjoy it. I don't know if that makes sense.

I have a therapist, and she's great. But I can't live my life like this.

Does anyone relate? Does anyone have advice?

Food Banks: Donating Re-usable Bags

Hello!

I'm doing some cleaning and honestly I'm amazed and slightly overwhelmed by how many bloody bags for life I have.

I don't need 30 bags, and I saw in another thread on Reddit that a good place to donate is to food banks.

If anyone works at a food bank and needs some bags, could you let me know which ones so I can drop off over the next week or so?

I'm in Central-South(ish) Manchester, but honestly as long as it's not too far from town, I should be okay to deliver to you!

Thanks ☺️

Sunscreen brands with no white cast?

Hello everyone!

I'll be coming to France for just over 2 weeks in July. I was planning to bring over sunscreen but it's a bit pointless - given I'd only be able to carry 100ml and I obviously need way more than that in the south.

I'm dark skinned and I'm worried that I won't be able to find good sunscreen that I can use for my entire body. I have looked on YouTube and Tiktok but the black french creators are only showing face sunscreen, for brands that don't have bottles more than 100ml.

My budget is €25 max to last me the whole trip, and I'd prefer something that is at least 300ml per bottle, as I'll be travelling a lot within France. Honestly the cheaper but effective, the better 😅. And preferably something easily accessible in case I run out mid-trip and need to get more ASAP.

If anyone is able to help me, that would be greatly appreciated ☺️.
