Teaching photography to deaf children and cancer survivors led me to my own adult ADHD diagnosis — now I want to start an ADHD photography collective! Post Content:
Hi every one
For years, I’ve been working as a freelance journalist and teaching photography to deaf youth, young cancer patients, cancer survivors, and people with disabilities. Photography has always been an empowering medium to communicate feelings, build confidence, and capture details that words often fail to convey.
Recently, I was officially diagnosed with adult ADHD. Receiving the diagnosis helped connect a lifetime of dots. It made me realize why the camera felt like such a natural extension of my mind: the visual hyperfocus, noticing tiny micro-details in everyday life, and using visual framing to channel restless energy.
I’m looking to start a supportive, low-pressure photography group for people with ADHD / neurodivergent minds (open to everyone, whether you shoot on a smartphone or a dedicated camera).
Share unique perspectives and creative hyperfocus projects.
Do simple, fun visual challenges designed around ADHD attention spans.
Connect with fellow creatives who view the world a bit differently.
Would anyone be interested in being part of a group like this? Drop a comment below or send me a DM, and let me know what kind of activities or discussions you’d love to see!
Online photography to ADHD/ Deaf/ disability
Hi everyone,
I'm Rajen Nair, a Mumbai photographer. For 15 years, I've voluntarily taught photography to Deaf youth and cancer survivors (Cancer Art Project & Enabled Photography). Being partially deaf, with chronic tinnitus and a recent ADHD diagnosis, I've learned firsthand how our brains constantly cra e dopamine. Photography has
been my best grounding tool-turning scattered energy into calm, visual hyperfocus
I'm starting a free, zero-pressure photography initiative for ADHD minds:
• Online Group (Global): Micro photo prompts, visual storytelling, and a safe space to share work without burnout or judgment.
• Mumbai Photowalks (Local): Casual outdoor street/nature walks using just our mobile phones.
If you'd like to join, drop a comment with whether you're interested in the online group, the Mumbai walks, or both, or send me a DM!
