Screen went black and orange battery light blinking on standby (TUF F15). Anyone else had this? is this related to the pending BIOS update?

Hey everyone, hoping to get some insight on a weird issue with my TUF F15.

Earlier today I was using it, but stepped away to look at my phone so the laptop was just sitting idle. Suddenly, the screen turned off and the battery indicator light started blinking orange.

The weird thing is my battery was well above 60%, so it definitely wasn't dead. I tried pressing keys and moving the mouse to wake it up, but it was completely unresponsive. I ended up having to hold down the power button to force a hard restart.

It booted up and is working fine now, but I'm a bit worried. I did notice I have a BIOS update pending right now. Has anyone experienced this before? Could an outdated BIOS cause a standby/battery crash like this, or should I be worried about a hardware issue?

Any advice would be appreciated!

First-year ECE undergrad aiming for embedded/hardware roles in Japan. What technical skills are valued over there?

Hi all,

I am currently a first-year Electronics and Communication Engineering undergrad in India. My long-term goal is to move to Japan after graduation to work in the embedded systems or hardware sector.

Currently, my technical stack leans heavily into microcontrollers (STM32, ESP32, Arduino) and I've been building hardware projects like a CubeSat prototype and dual-axis solar trackers. I am also planning to start studying Japanese immediately.

For those working in hardware or embedded tech in Japan:

  1. Are these the right technical skills to focus on for the Japanese market, or should I be pivoting toward FPGA (Altera/ARM) or specific simulation tools?
  2. Do hardware/embedded roles strictly require JLPT N2, or is it possible to get an internship or entry-level role with N4/N3 if my project portfolio and GPA are very strong?
  3. What steps can I take in my 2nd and 3rd year of university to make myself an ideal candidate for Japanese recruiters?

Any reality checks or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Advice on prep for JLPT(im a beginner btw)

Hi everyone,

I'm an undergraduate student majoring in electronics engineering, and my long-term goal is to move to Japan and work in the tech sector after graduation. To get there, I know I eventually need to hit N2 fluency, but I am starting completely from scratch right now.

I want to challenge myself and aim to take an exam this upcoming December. I have a few specific questions on how to build a bulletproof roadmap from zero:

  1. Which exam to target? Given that I have about 5 months, is it smarter to comfortably clear N5, or is aiming for N4 directly doable if I put in 1–2 hours a day?
  2. Resource Strategy: I keep seeing Genki vs. Minna no Nihongo vs. Marugoto. Which one is best for self-study alongside college coursework? For Kanji, should I jump straight into Anki or WaniKani right from Day 1?
  3. Tracking & Prep for December: For those who have cracked the December exam while balancing university or a job, how did you structure your daily/weekly schedule? When should I switch from learning new grammar to doing mock test papers?
  4. The Long-Term Career Angle: For anyone who moved to Japan for technical roles (especially hardware/embedded systems/electronics), how much did having an early N5/N4 on your resume help with securing internships or initial networking, even if N2 is the ultimate goal?

I'm incredibly excited to start this journey. Any advice, reality checks, or recommended daily routines would be highly appreciated!

Yoroshiku onegaishimasu! 🙏

Doubt about PE/OE, Minors, NPTEL courses

Hiii guysss...someone pls explain about the PE/OE, minors and NPTEL courses? How can we choose them? And what are the criteria's ? And is there anything like we can apply for PE only and not for NPTEL? someone explain me about this works. How does this help in satisfying the credits early? Do we get the option to choose our PE ? if i want to specialize in a specific field for example take VLSI, i must complete all the electives mentioned under this in curricullum? what advice would u give for me to take the PEs and NPTELs. Thank you guys in advance
