Hi everyone, I’m trying to reverse engineer a stage prop mechanism I saw in a cosplay competition and I’m looking for ideas.
I need to create a double banner/flag system mounted on the same horizontal rod.
The setup works like this:
Flag A hangs normally and is visible to the audience.
Flag B is rolled up directly above Flag A on the same top rod.
When activated, Flag B quickly unrolls downward and covers Flag A completely.
Flag A does NOT fall off, it stays in place behind the new flag.
The challenge:
I need a very simple hidden release mechanism that can be triggered from behind the prop.
Important constraints:
No visible strings or cords from the audience.
No obvious hand movement when triggering it.
Ideally activated with a tiny hidden pull, magnetic release, latch, or mechanical trigger behind the banner.
It has to be reliable for live stage performance (similar to cosplay competitions or theater quick-change props).
I made a very rough sketch of the concept:

Does anyone know what type of mechanism could work for this? Maybe something used in theater props, magic props, or quick-release systems?
Any ideas would help a lot.
