Smart-Ish Watch Recommendation

As a long time Apple user, I've always been an Apple Watch guy (most recently the Ultra 2). I recently switched to Android for the first time and picked up the OnePlus Watch 4. Since then I've been trying to spend less time on my phone, and I feel like having a full-feature smart watch is working against me.

So, I'm looking for a watch that give some basic functionality (tracking steps, showing weather, sleep, maybe limited notification alterts). Bonus points if it looks more like a traditional watch rather than the big screen watches I'm used to.

I recently found and ordered the Ollee Watch, but feels like I may want something kind of in between. Any suggestions?

BoltShot: Nothing Style Screenshot Workflow (FOSS)

Backstory

After 15+ years of iPhone usage, I recently made the switch to the Nothing Phone 3. I've loved the experience, but there was one niche feature I was missing that was driving me crazy.

My Problem

On iOS, after taking a screenshot, I could quickly Copy & Delete it. Since most of my screenshots get sent to my wife or buddies right away, that feature kept my photo library clean and free of unneeded screenshots. On Nothing OS, and Android as a whole I think, I'd send the screenshot and it would just sit in my gallery collecting dust until I eventually went through and cleaned them out. First world problem, I know.

My Solution

BoltShot.

As someone with no coding knowledge, I decided to vibe code an app that would solve my problem. I worked between Google AI Studio and Cursor to come up with a solution to my screenshot mess, and I thought it might help some others in the community.

What It Does

After taking a screenshot, BoltShot lets you instantly:

Copy & Delete

Copy & Save

Share & Delete

Share & Save

All without leaving the screen you were on (enable Floating prompt in settings for the overlay). If you just want to save the screenshot like normal, touch outside of the prompt box to dismiss it.

You do still get the standard Android screenshot preview/options by default, but BoltShot can auto-dismiss it after a couple seconds if you enable that in settings (requires accessibility access).

The last little note is that you have to allow full access to files if you want Copy & Delete and Share & Delete to remove the screenshot without the confirmation box popping up. If you don't want to give access, you just have to confirm the delete after those actions.

There are also a handful of customization options (color theme, if the popup shows at the top/middle/bottom of your screen, and whether the copy or share row is on top in the 2×2 grid).

Setup

Sideload the APK (not on Play Store), turn on Monitor screenshots, grant photo access, and enable Floating prompt for the best experience. It should work on most Android 8+ phones, not just Nothing.

I stumbled my way through getting on Github, with more help from AI, and have licensed it to be free and open source. This is the first app I've shared (I've vibe coded a handful of others for myself), so I'd love any feedback, feature requests or suggestions to make this better!

More Personal Vibe Coding

I posted a few days ago that I had vibe code a Nothing style calendar app... And I decided to not stop there. Thought I'd share the next few apps I've been playing with.

All of these are created using a mix or Google AI Studio, Cursor, and some FOSS software (for the keyboard). As of right now I have no plans to make these available, just showing what's possible. But if there is one you'd find more useful than what is currently available, let me know and I may consider putting it out there.

Thanks for looking! Just having some fun while my sports photography businesses slow for the summer 🤣.

Weather

Pretty basic weather app. I was mostly just looking for a widget that fit the vibe of my phone better. This one is pretty straightforward.

Calendar

The calendar pulls and syncs with the Google account's currently signed in on my phone without needing API setup. It also allows me to add my ICS subscribed Calendars, which I use to pull on my wife's Apple Calendar.

When adding an event, the location is linked to Maps, (if available) so I can grab directions quickly.

The widget shows the monthly view (with dots for datd with events) and events for the next 7 days on the right side.

Grocery List

This syncs with Microsoft To-Do, which I needed to keep the family grocery list working across all of our devices. Other than that, pretty straightforward. Added items, removed items, set reminders, etc.

Now Playing Widget

Took heavy inspo from NDeck, which is way more feature rich and refined than what I made. Again, I just wanted a widget that matched the look of my setup better. Glitch effect is actively while media is playing, double tap to open media player, basic media controls

Battert Widget

This shows the battery of all connected Bluetooth devices. Tapping the widget cycles through the devices. App lets me rename devices and pick an icon to use.

Clock

Nothing fancy here either, just a reskin basically. Alarm, time, stopwatch functionality.

I Vibe Coded a Nothing Calendar (Personal Use)

I thought is share a personal project I've been working on over the last few days. I know vibe coding is somewhat looked down upon, but with my only intention being for personal use, and me having no actual coding skills, I went for it.

Here is my Nothing inspired calendar app. It matches the Nothing vibe, syncs with Google Calendar/Maps, and has 3 Widgets (full calendar, time and date).

After switching from iOS and Apple Calendars, Google Calendar just wasn't doing it for me. It felt overwhelming and ugly, so I looked and looked for another solution with no luck. So, here it is! Just thought I'd share 😁

Not All Icons Changing With Icon Pack

I'm a life long iOS user who recently switched to Android for the first time. I have the Nothing Phone (3) and decided to install an icon pack to switch up the look of Nothing OS a bit.

For some reason, I have some apps that aren't showing the new icon even though the icon exists within the pack. On the homescreen I just get the standard icon, which really throws off the vibe. When I open the app the correct icon from the packs shows as it opens, but not on the home screen.

I created shortcuts for a few of the apps and picked the proper icon, but that's an annoying workaround (and I lose the quick actions).

Is there a way to fix this?

New Bartlome Leather Co. Wallet

I had been the hunt for a minimalist wallet that would hold a couple of cards and some cash. I've tried, and enjoyed, several options from Open Sea, Lost Dutchman and others, but I wanted to try something different this time around.

I came across Bartlowe Leather Co. (I wish I knew how to tag him) in this sub and reached out. After some back and forth o decided on this model and color way, and I couldn't be happier. Quality is top notch, the red looks amazing in person, and the size of exactly what I was looking for.

The turnaround and shipping were quick and communication was solid throughout. If you are in the market, I would certainly look at Bartlome Leather Co. (Username is Bartlome27).

Aulumu + Nothing Would Be Perfect

I'm sure this post won't have any impact, but I just want the world to know that I would do some questionable things to make an Alumu and Nothing collab happen.

I recently switched to the Nothing Phone 3 after 17 years of iPhone use, with my last few phones rocking various case and accessory options from Aulumu. I'm loving my Nothing phone, but the case offerings are few and far between. As a case nerd, this has left a whole in my heart.

As I was thinking through the 30+ cases I have for my 17PM, Aulumu stuck out as a brand that would pair perfectly with what Nothing is doing from a design perspective.

So if anyone from Aulumu is listening, just know that I miss you. The Nothing community is hungry for more case options, and you guys would be the perfect fit. My first born is 4, so it's probably too late to offer him up, but everything else is on the table. My DMs and wallet are open.

Minimalist Wallet Suggestion Needed (A Few Cards + US Bills)

Hey Everyone,

I'm looking for a minimalist leather wallet that will hold a few cards (3-4) along with a handful of US bills. Bills always seem to be the sticking point with more minimalist wallets, requiring you to fold a few times for them to fit. Not a big deal, but folding one would be ideal.

I've general stuff with black wallets in the past, but I'm looking for something with a little more character that will show some patina over time.

I've got a couple of wallets from Open Sea Leather and The Lost Dutchman, which are all great, just wanting to see what else is out there. Would love to find something from a small brand or independent maker that I know will last for years to come and offer a unique take.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be great. I've enjoyed scrolling this sub for the last week or so, and I look forward to seeing what you guys can recommend.

Play Store Update Delay

After 15+ years of iPhone use, I'm about a month into Android with my Nothing Phone (3). I feel like I always need to add that preface to excuse my ignorance and the silly question that's about to follow.

Why is it that in the Play Store, I get apps ready to update but the release happened weeks prior? I was on the Play Store yesterday and had a few apps that needed updated- cool. Then I just again today and I had a bunch that popped up, some of which showed released in April. Why wouldn't those have shown up yesterday?

Not a huge deal, I don't need to latest version as soon as it drops, just seems weird.

Can I Make Android Auto... Better?

I recently got my first Android after over 15 years of iPhone use. I've genuinely enjoyed things since making the switch... Other than Android Auto.

Part of my frustration is probably because my car (Mazda CX-50) used a knob to control the infotainment system. So you spin the knob to move from selection to selection. It has touch screen too, but the screen sets back so far that it's not ideal or meant to be used exclusively. The simple layout of CarPlay made things easy enough, but the constant split screen on AA has been super annoying.

The other headache has been the media source constantly switching when I change th volume. It'll go from YouTube audio to whatever I was listening to on Apple Music for no reason, other than I turned it up. I did find DashRelay which has helped, but it still happens enough to be annoying.

Those are my 2 main gripes. Are there any tweaks or apps or tricks out there to make me hate using it less? Much appreciated!

Access eSIM QR Code Online?

I was attempting to transfer my eSIM from one device to another, something timed out and now I have no service on either device. When I try the "Get a new eSIM" under the "Manager Your SIM" page, it gives me an error and says that I'm locked out for 24 hours... obviously not ideal. I originally tried the transfer from Android to Android, but that failed as well and said I needed to contact ATT.

When I got a new phone a few weeks ago, after going back and forth with customer service, I eventually found my eSIM QR code online somewhere. Now I can't seem to access it or find the right spot. Customer service says they have to mail me the QR code, which also isn't ideal.

Am I missing something? Am I crazy?

I'll preface this by saying I've just recently switched to Android after using nothing but iPhone's since 2009. I've never owned a smartphone that wasn't an iPhone up until making the switch 2 weeks ago- so I've got lots to figure out.

One thing that has been super annoying is the way that Messages handles notifications and quick replys. On iOS, replying to a message marks that message as read and clears the notification- which makes sense because if I replied/interacted with the message then I clearly read it. But on NothingOS, and from what I can tell Android as a whole, it just ADDS my reply to the notification.

Is there a fix for this? I've searched Reddit and elsewhere without a good answer, but it just seems like such a obvious thing that there has to be a solution out there. I've looked into things like Macroid and Buzzkill, which I'm using for other things, and can't find a way to trigger what I'm looking for. I've even went down the rabbit hole with ChatGPT and Gemini, both of which acted like there was a fix, only to come up empty handed.

Not the end of the world, just a small annoyance that has made the switch slightly more frustrating. Thanks in advance for any help!

One thing I've missed in my short time since switching to Nothing is the lack of case options. As a lifetime iPhone user I've always been used to an unlimited number of cases to choose from, and I've taken full advantage of them (I have probably 30 cases for my 17 Pro Max).

One of the cases I've always enjoyed using is the Arc Pulse. Probably the most minimal case you can get, letting you enjoy the phone (mostly) as designed. I was surprised to see that Arc had a case for the Nothing (3) and ordered immediately. Then I added a Magsafe ring just so I don't lose that functionality, and I'm all set!

Just thought I'd share for anyone looking for case options!

I'll preface by saying I'm brand new to Nothing, and Android as a whole. I've used exclusively iPhone since the iPhone 3G, so I'm stumbling through the change. I've had my Nothing Phone 3 for a week, and loving it so far!

I picked up a pair of Nothing Ears to pair with the new phone, switching from Airpod Pro 3. I love the design, they sound good, really liking them.

The one thing I miss is having my notifications, especially texts, read to me when they come through when I'm wearing my earbuds. I also have a pair of Galaxy Buds 4 Pro, and there is a feature within the Galaxy app to toggle that feature one. Does Nothing offer the same? I'm not seeing it in the Nothing X app.

With Apple everything is so integrated (to a fault) that it's all just plug and play. While I love the new found freedom that comes with stepping out of that echo system, I just need some help navigating haha.

Thanks in advance!
