Lincoln Plaza Cinemas is BACK - New and Different!

Ever walk by the old Lincoln Plaza Cinemas and get mad that it's gone? In case you didn't realize after they lost their space to the flood and then the lease to the greedy landlord...they created a new theater called New Plaza Cinema. They have had numerous homes since the closure, but finally settled at the Macaulay Honors College at 37 West 67th Street. They now have a long term lease for the 72 seat 2nd floor cinema, however...

This summer they were forced out by summer construction at the school. Instead of going dark they found a new Upper West Side home for the Summer!

With only 3 weekends left, New Plaza Cinema is screening arthouse films at the beautiful Museum of Arts and Design - 2 Columbus Circle EVERY SATURDAY.

This weekend there is a FREE block party from 10-3 and Arts related movies showing like the Orson Welles documentary F for Fake and the newest Marcel DuChamp documentary. All tickets must be purchased in advance and are available on New Plaza Cinema's website.

FULL DISCLOSURE, I am an indie filmmaker who has been lucky to be programmed at New Plaza Cinema for 3 years now on the UWS. August 15th at 1:45pm is the last summer screening of Make Me Famous. This beautiful community cinema has championed our independent NYC history documentary from the start of our DIY distribution and we have seen how impactful a true community cinema can be for the neighbors. Come this September you will see the schedules every week again on the corner of Columbus Ave and 67th St, but please consider supporting the summer home of this treasured volunteer-led cinema.

Quick Synopsis of our indie doc: Make Me Famous captures NYC’s explosive 1980s Downtown art scene where punk, paint, music, and nightlife collided. At its edge stood painter Edward Brezinski, whose story reveals the era’s DIY grit, ambition and where the dream of making it felt just within reach and heartbreakingly out of grasp.

Make Me Famous has been independently distributed now in 60+ cities over an unprecedented 3 year theatrical-exclusive run. 100% Certified FRESH on Rotten Tomatoes.

Happy to answer any questions about the theater or the many NYC artists that are involved in our documentary!

Synopsis:

Make Me Famous is a vibrant, fast-paced portrait of New York City’s explosive 1980s Downtown art scene—where punk met paint, and the lines between art, music, and nightlife blurred. This was the world that launched Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Madonna, and Blondie—a cultural moment defined by its grit, glamour, and DIY ethos.

Amid the chaos was painter Edward Brezinski, a figure both present and peripheral, whose story offers a unique window into the era’s creative frenzy. More than a portrait of an artist, Make Me Famous captures a time and place where the dream of making it felt just within reach—and heartbreakingly out of grasp.
