How Good Is Mechanical Engineering at University of Manitoba for International Students? Job Market, Career Advice & Future Master’s/PhD Plans

Hi everyone,

I’m an international student from Bangladesh considering pursuing a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Manitoba, and I wanted to ask about both the university and the job market afterwards.

My long-term goal is:
Bachelor’s → work experience in Canada → Master’s → eventually PhD/research.

I had a few questions for current students, graduates, or engineers in Manitoba/Canada:

* How good is Mechanical Engineering at University of Manitoba overall?
* Is the program respected by employers in Canada?
* How difficult is it for international students to get internships/co-op placements?
* How is the mechanical engineering job market in Manitoba after undergrad?
* Are there enough entry-level jobs for fresh graduates?
* Which industries hire most mechanical grads there? (manufacturing, HVAC, energy, mining, aerospace, automotive, etc.)

Would you recommend specializing in a certain area if the goal is getting a job faster after graduation?

Also, how important is a Master’s degree in Canada for mechanical engineering jobs?
Can most students find decent engineering-related work with just a bachelor’s degree, or does a Master’s make a major difference?

I’m interested in eventually doing research and pursuing a PhD, but I’d still like to gain industry experience first.

Would really appreciate honest opinions about:

* job prospects
* salary expectations
* Manitoba vs other provinces
* whether staying in Manitoba after graduation is a good idea

Thanks a lot!

I also wanted some advice on skills I should focus on during undergrad to improve employability in Canada. For example:

* CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA?)
* MATLAB/Simulink
* Programming (Python/C++)
* HVAC systems
* FEA/CFD (ANSYS)
* PLC/automation
* Project management?

Would you recommend specializing in a certain area if the goal is getting a job faster after graduation?

Chelmsford for International students.

Hi everyone,

I’m an international student from Bangladesh and I’m planning to study a BEng Mechanical Engineering with placement year at Anglia Ruskin University starting next year.

I wanted to ask people who live in Chelmsford — how is life there overall?

- Is Chelmsford generally peaceful and safe for students?
- How’s the weather throughout the year? (I’m from a hot country so UK weather will be very new for me )
- Is it easy for students to find part-time jobs for around 20 hours a week?
- How is the overall atmosphere for international students?

I’m honestly looking for a quieter and more comfortable city rather than a super hectic place like London, so Chelmsford seemed interesting to me.

My long term plan is actually to do my Bachelor’s, Master’s, and eventually a PhD in the UK as well, so I’m hoping to build connections, gain UK experience, and properly integrate into the engineering sector over time.

Would appreciate honest opinions and advice from locals or ARU students.

How is BEng Mechanical Engineering at ARU Chelmsford? Job prospects after graduation?

I’m considering studying Mechanical Engineering at Anglia Ruskin University (Chelmsford campus) in the UK, and I wanted to get some honest opinions from students or graduates.
How is the BEng Mechanical Engineering course there in terms of:
Teaching quality and facilities

Practical/lab experience

Industry connections and placements

Overall student experience at the Chelmsford campus

Also, how respected is the degree in the UK job market?

And I’m also curious about the career side:
After completing a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, how good are the job opportunities in the UK or internationally?
Is it easy to get an entry-level engineering job, or
is a Master’s (MEng/MSc) usually needed to become competitive?
Finally, for those who went on to do a Master’s after their Bachelor’s, did it significantly improve job prospects and salary in mechanical engineering?
Any honest advice or personal experience would be really appreciated.

Do international students need to leave the UK before applying for a master’s?

If I complete my bachelor’s degree and want to pursue a master’s and PhD afterward, do I need to return to my home country and apply again like I did for my bachelor’s, or can I stay in the UK and complete the whole process from there?
