How Good Is Mechanical Engineering at University of Manitoba for International Students? Job Market, Career Advice & Future Master’s/PhD Plans
Hi everyone,
I’m an international student from Bangladesh considering pursuing a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Manitoba, and I wanted to ask about both the university and the job market afterwards.
My long-term goal is:
Bachelor’s → work experience in Canada → Master’s → eventually PhD/research.
I had a few questions for current students, graduates, or engineers in Manitoba/Canada:
* How good is Mechanical Engineering at University of Manitoba overall?
* Is the program respected by employers in Canada?
* How difficult is it for international students to get internships/co-op placements?
* How is the mechanical engineering job market in Manitoba after undergrad?
* Are there enough entry-level jobs for fresh graduates?
* Which industries hire most mechanical grads there? (manufacturing, HVAC, energy, mining, aerospace, automotive, etc.)
Would you recommend specializing in a certain area if the goal is getting a job faster after graduation?
Also, how important is a Master’s degree in Canada for mechanical engineering jobs?
Can most students find decent engineering-related work with just a bachelor’s degree, or does a Master’s make a major difference?
I’m interested in eventually doing research and pursuing a PhD, but I’d still like to gain industry experience first.
Would really appreciate honest opinions about:
* job prospects
* salary expectations
* Manitoba vs other provinces
* whether staying in Manitoba after graduation is a good idea
Thanks a lot!
