Any Morningstar (or other) subscribers out there willing to provide feedback?

Robinhood Gold ended their partnership with Morningstar earlier this month, and I’m trying to decide if I should pay for a subscription or not. As a 50/50 value/growth investor, I really appreciate their valuation method and am already familiar with many of their sector analyst’s biases, which is why I’m leaning toward Morningstar over anyone else.

A decent amount of Morningstar content can be accessed for free through Apple News, YouTube, etc. but I’m really missing being able to read their full reports. While not a replacement for DD, they were a great tool for comparing against my own research.

That said, I’m really interested to hear feedback on the tools that other investors use - Morningstar or otherwise. Please consider that do not trade options or get into much technical analysis. I manage numerous IRAs with a 20 year + horizon. Thanks!

Good time to jump back in? (PS5 Pro)

Got the game on release and loved it, but after a few updates balanced & performance mode both seemed to have some issues. Because of this - and the crazy amount of content being added with each update - I decided to wait a few months for the issues to resolve before really exploring the world. Hoping to jump back in soon, but would need to free up space and I have a few questions:

  1. How is the game currently playing PS5 Pro on balanced and performance?

  2. Is it worth starting over with all the new content or continuing from where I left off? (40hours mostly in Hernand)

  3. What are some of the coolest features that have been added since April?

Thanks!

I almost exclusively buy digital and still cancelled PS+

Do I care that much about physical games? No, but I care about cooperations facing consequences for their actions - especially when those actions negatively impact a hobby/community that I love. For those like me who aren’t directly affected or don’t care that much, I suggest you still send Sony a message by canceling - even if it’s only temporary. A little empathy & understanding goes a long way. Sony may not respond to a subscription drop, it won’t go unnoticed. Perhaps losing physical media doesn’t impact people like me, but the next decision might (esp w/ dynamic pricing) and this feels like the least we can do to push back and potentially make Sony think twice before ignoring their customers.

10 Undervalued Wide-Moat Stocks Worth Buying Right Now — Morningstar

I agree with quite a few of these and continue to appreciate MS’ valuation method and moat rating system.

“Void Dragons that eat the foam at the edge of black holes”

Void Dragons especially, but all of the aliens mentioned at the start of chapter 32 (Part 6 ) sound super intriguing. I mean, all of the aliens are intriguing, but the ones mentioned in this passage seem especially epic. With a lot of higher priority cgi already being used if/when the show happens, I doubt we will see them, but it would be pretty cool to get some eventual concept art or maybe a nod to some of this stuff in the opening credits.

Going in blind brought the child-like joy and wonder back into gaming for me

For this to work, I obviously have to be committed to buying the game at launch or an early sale. So, while this approach certainly doesn’t work for every game, it’s a literal game changer for many.

The process is simple: I avoid all trailers, reviews, or videos of any kind before playing the game.

The result: I get to experience every single aspect of the game fresh (for better or worse) and without any confirmation bias or minor spoilers from reviews or trailers.

I don’t even remember when I started reading reviews so frequently, but around 2023 I decided I was done with it. I’ll still glance at a score occasionally if I’m on the fence, but I realized that, at almost 40 years of age, I really don’t need another person’s opinion muddying up my experience with a hobby I love so dearly.

As a HUGE proponent for consumer research, it took a while for me to really commit to this, but once I did, it was absolutely worth it. BG3, Spiderman 2, DS2, KCD2, Exp 33 - going in blind for all of these was an absolute blast. Do I run the risk of paying full price for dud? Sure, but we are all over 30 and most of us know which game studios put out consistently solid products by now. I’d argue that the risk/reward ratio is well worth it and encourage others to try it out, especially if you find yourself missing that spark that gaming once gave you.

Thanks for reading!

Adobo: A seasoning worth considering

I realize it’s taken a beating lately, but I still really like using it, and after a good deal of DD I’ve decided to continue using it - especially on chicken. Do you think Adobo is a buy?

Gauging interesting in a sub for active IRA managers that buy individual stocks

When (seems far more likely than “if”) my portfolios stop surpassing the S&P, I’m sure I will be rotating into index funds, but since studying investment finance, I’ve fallen in love with individual stock investing and all that comes with it. I realize I’m in a very small minority in this sub, as most people buy index funds - and rightfully so - but I’m very interested in talking with (what few) fellow individual stock investors might be out there. My other investing subs have been inundated with post about and/or written by AI, and my favorite sub (value investing) isn’t even a value investing sub anymore. That said, I’m considering starting my own sub and am looking gauge interest, however small. Thanks for reading and please don’t downvote me to hell for not starting my investment journey with index funds. Thanks!

Why ‘Buying the Crash’ Beats Buying the Dip — Morningstar

Decent short read. I don’t agree with all of it, but I do love me some 52 week low scanning when I’m in the mood to research new stocks to buy.

▲ 59 r/Saros

Anyone else not using the shield at all and absolutely thriving?

Many dozens of hours of unsuccessfully trying to beat Returnal got me used to no shield, so early in Saros I decided to omit it entirely. No use meant no need to upgrade and extra points in other areas. Granted, I did not think this would work for whole game, but it sure has. I cruised through Saros at a speed that was almost disappointingly fast. It worked so well (and I surprisingly liked the L1 dash so much) that I powered up Returnal, remapped dash to L1, Alt Fire to L2, melee to R1, and FINALLY beat Returnal.

Am I alone in this?

Edit: I should have mentioned that I have to lean pretty heavily into artifacts that provide power without the shield doing so, but this has been pretty easy to do by always starting at shattered rise and redrawing as needed.
