I started riding my bike after deciding that a car and car insurance is a luxury for someone like me
No light setup at first. I got struck in daylight by someone who did not stop for their stop sign at around 10mph. no critical injury. ruined bike. no tickets for them.
Also have had multiple close calls where cars will literally fly around me as I'm crossing a sidewalk via the white walking sign lit, unmounted.
or if I'm just casually going 5 mph in a straight line road and someone has to wait for me to pass a parked car before flooring past me
or if I'm approaching a corner that a car happens to be flying around roughly the same time as me and they decide they are taking priority and I'm bullied to wait or risk myself.
but it wasn't just one person. It was a lot. every day. about 50% of people seem to react to cyclists this way. We are simply a speed bump in their way. I'd be willing to bet they would drive off in a heartbeat if they hit you and nobody saw it.
So I invested into my health via this baby. Apparently its praised on Amazon for being almost ridiculously bright.
Is it overkill? maybe.
Is potentially annoying drivers with my rear light for a few seconds as they pass around, too high of a cost to ensure I cannot possibly be struck by any other drivers moving forward? That's a matter of opinion. BUT, I will say it is working an absolute treat. Cars of all kinds at all times have a noticeably larger distance and slower speed while passing. If you ask the drivers though, I'm sure they'd have some choice remarks ;)
I was casually crossing a neighborhood street on my bicycle that connects to a main road. There is a crosswalk clearly painted as well as white lines for the stop sign.
about 80% across, so I am now roughly in the right lane of where a car would be pulling up. however, I was suddenly slammed on my right side from a car out of nowhere.
TL:DR she snaked out of any sort of responsibility for totaling my bike and really hurting my right knee and right hand as far as criminally, which I thought was amazing. asked chatgpt what to do and they said to hire a PI attorney since the police report was all muddled. I picked a decent looking one in my area and they took the case. I'm now being referred to a chiropractor which I thought was interesting. I read online basically ppl are against PI's because they claim they beef up the case with a bunch of medical bills and treatment / therapy, and then they take a good chunk and its a waste to hire them. I feel like 33% of the total is a good deal to have pros helping me, and honestly this isnt about getting some huge lump amount... but anyone offer any comments on the matter and if I goofed or not? obviously Im gonna get 33% less, but thats better than getting nothing and having to worry about personally advocating the entire thing to boot. its about holding her accountable for hurting me and my bike and lying about it. for example if she had to pay out 10k and I only saw 1k of it I wouldnt even mind.
additional info-
driver appeared to have approached the stop sign and not stop behind the white line that you are required to stop at. Therefore she entered the crosswalk at around 10mph or so and struck me on my bike. Maybe she was looking down at her phone, or adjusting the radio, who knows.
for my own safety and for records I immediately began recording on my phone, got the plate, its a lady telling me sorry, admits to hitting me, asks me if I want money etc. doesnt call it in, a unrelated driver sees this and asks me if I need him to call for me and he did.
long story short, lady completed changed her strat once the police began involved and she switched to denying hitting me at all, actually claimed I hit her from what I understand, and that she did not admit nor apologize to me for hitting me. I mentioned I had an entire video of her admitting it earlier, even directly says "I take responsibility, I'm sorry" etc.
unfortunately the male officer directly handling this incident seemed to do everything he possibly could to protect this lady from being officially cited and losing her license etc. so in the end he watched 10 secs of my video, walked away to talk to her, and then at the end concluded nobody would be cited due to "conflicting stories" completely dismissing the fact shes on video, which he heard her admitting on, her car is parked through the crosswalk, her stories change etc, she spoke at the end claiming I made her admit what she did through intimidation lmao, the cop instantly shushed her to stop talking more than she needed to and ignored officially acknowledging that as well.
I reported a channel's live that clearly breaks YT policy, nothing happened.
for context, it was about 5 white American males on a streamyards YT live, this is a fairly decent sized channel, nothing huge...but not some tiny channel either.
One of the guys on the show went into a 5 minute rant , to summarize what he said, he basically said word for word, clearly, that the only solution to the problems with Iran is to "blow up the entire country" . He doubled, maybe even tripled down on his clearly racist rant, as talking about "blowing up" an entire demographic to promote peace is clearly against youtube/google policy.
however when reported, absolutely nothing happens, and the video remains up.
I've known smaller channels get strikes/removed for the tiniest word slip up (not saying this is bad) but this guy can go on a Alex Jones / Kanye-eqsue racist rant , mentioning even using weapons or bombs, and its perfectly fine or chalked up as "comedy" or some other BS. the report will just sit stale indefintely when in reality for everyone else they are processed very quickly
It's not like YT is actually making any money off this guys channel, he gets like 150 live viewers so its not some big loss if they ban him.
Why do certain channels get special leeway and treatment? If A-I mods everything, surely it wouldn't be selective if it actually sees these phrases and statements in the auto-logged text captions? is some wig in googles office just manually preventing these things because the channel has a certain age or video count etc?
