Finally, getting around to this transport for my word bearers.

Still need to add some runes and the Legion symbol. On the fence as to whether or not I want to add any of those “colchesian geometric shapes”, anybody have experience doing them?

I meant to post this last week when I actually finished everything, but I was halfway through the post when I navigated away from that page and lost the whole thing and was too frustrated to come back to it. So here we are again. After finishing the last models in my word bearers combat patrol I took the opportunity to set up my terrain buildings on one of the old starter set mats and took a “team photo”.

Not included in the picture, but recently completed, is my kit bashed sorcerer. I’m currently working on a rhino.

So my son and I have been diligently building and painting our combat patrols and this past weekend we finally played a game with two battle ready forces.

I took the Chaos Space Marine Daemonkin, and my son used a modified version of strikeforce Octavius, replacing the Terminator librarian with a 5-man intercessor squad. Because his force lacks rules we used the homebrew 11th edition versions that were posted on this forum. Besides swapping the librarian for the intercessors, I also allowed him to use the terminators deepstrike ability to pop up anywhere on the battlefield, subject to the usual deep strike restrictions.

With disruption versus purge, the missions were as follows:

CSM - Disruption - Delaying Action

SM - Purge The Foe - Punishment

We used layout “A”.

We used the chapter approved mission deck, and just ignored references to the central objective.

We’re both pretty new to 40K, at least I haven’t played regularly since fifth edition so we kept it simple with only primary objectives and no twists. Previous games that we have played were “simplified“ and didn’t use enhancements or stratagems so this was the first time we dabbled in those.

The game went really well, with action right up until the ending of the fifth battle round when his terminators closed in on my last five Legionaires and killed them to tilt the game narrowly in his favor.

Very fun experience and I look forward to doing it again. Hopefully with the actual combat patrol rules next time, but this was a workable solution for us for sure.

The only thing I didn’t like was the difficulty in navigating back-and-forth on my phone between the core rules, the combat patrol sheet for my army, and the combat patrol rules in the app. I look forward to having my rule book on hand next time, plus a PDF printout of the force if possible so that I only need to refer to one section of the app on my phone.

Finally finished my CSM Combat Patrol, dedicated to the Sons of Lorgar. The Master was the final model. I got through the whole patrol (while balancing several other projects) since Christmas.

I do just need to add some blood/gore to the fallen Crimson fist at his feet. His squad of Possessed feature casualties from the IF and BT, which are the three chapters of loyalist marines my kids and I play…

Anyway had a blast working on this guy, really happy with how he turned out. Hope you all enjoy!

I read somewhere that using contrast paints on vehicles has limited effectiveness due to the big flat open spaces.

I was planning on undercoating my rhino in drybrushed silver, and then applying the flesh tearers contrast k paint onto that, much as I have done for all of my word bearers so far. Is it truly as bad as they say?

What would be the best non-contrast paint match for flesh tearers red?

So one of my sons has been getting into the Hobby with me (my second go at it after years away) and his younger brother had been expressing interest.

For Marines I’ve always been a Black Templar player, and my older son chose Imperial Fists, so naturally my youngest chose the Crimson Fists.

He’s eagerly awaiting the Armageddon box to start his force, but in the meantime I bought him some
Infernus marines and taught him a quick battle-ready paint scheme.

He painted them, with the occasional assistance / tutorial from me. I helped with the eyes and water transfers, but the rest is his work with mostly drybrushing.

Would love to hear what you guys think of his first models!

Hello my brothers,

I’m currently getting back into the game along with my two sons and I have started a Word Bearer army using the Chaos Space Marines combat patrol.

I also have a small force of Black Templars and Tyranids and I’d like to grow them all slowly and more or less evenly to avoid burn burning out on one project.

As such my Templars, which have now hit 1000 points, are getting set aside until my Word Bearers can grow to match that same number.

My sons, also being new to the game, are just building 1000 point forces so we can get used to smaller games together before we expand.

With the new detachment point rules, my previous plan to run my Word Bearers using pact bound zealots has hit a snag, with it being three detachment points and 1000 point games limiting you to two.

So I’m looking to you, my fellow sons of Lorgar, for your suggestions on what would make a good, and themed, two point detachment for my army.

I currently only have the combat patrol box, but plan on expanding with some chosen, a forgefiend, and a dark apostle/chaos Lord.

I was thinking of just running a veterans of the long war because it seems fairly straightforward, but I am open to other suggestions.

I added these water transfers onto my word bearers, and I’m wondering if I put too large of an icon on the pauldron, if maybe these ones were meant for a terminator size shoulder?

They looked roughly the same size as the crosses I’ve put on my Templars so I assumed it’d be OK but they’re fairly long top to bottom.

I feel like I managed to get them on there fine but I’m just wondering if I should’ve used the smaller ones on these guys.

I’m also on the fence as to whether I should weather the transfers or just leave them “clean”. In particular, the little glyphs look very white. I’d love to have some feedback on if I should grime them up a bit and if so, any tips?

What to do when you wanna build a Chaplain for your Templars, have only $10 for hobby stuffs this week and a whole box full of interesting bits?

You buy Vet Sarge Ramus from the local video game store and induct him into the Reclusiam!

I generally prefer my marines to have helmets on, but I’ve always wanted to use this head in particular and I guess this seems like the perfect excuse to use it!

I’m hoping the skulls hanging off his backpack and bones on the front chain of his tabard will help him exude Chaplain vibes without a helmet.

Hello! I’m new to team Chaos and have always been interested in the Word Bearers, so here are the first two members of my legionaries from the combat patrol.

My cultists are done and this was my first go at red power armour, I hope it looks convincingly like a scion of Lorgar should!

Once I’m done with the whole patrol, I want to add a Dark Apostle and I’m thinking maybe a forgefiend.

I’m looking forward to being a part of this group and learning lots about playing with this army. Thanks for having me!
