Something I wonder about

I'm rewatching and I was wondering if it would have made any difference with Laoghaire if Jamie had been more direct with her about why he married Claire. Like maybe if he'd said " i married her because i love her" or something maybe she wouldn't have thought Claire bewitched him and maybe just maybe she would have realized he actually loved Claire instead of being so obsessed with him.

Glinda's turning points

Nessa's death and Fiyero's sacrifice were very important events for Glinda.

Fiyero leaving Glinda at the wedding was an eye opening moment for Glinda but she has two more major wake up calls that really push her to see the world and to take a long hard look at herself and her choices.

When Nessa is murdered Glinda begins to see the consequence of her choice, but when Elphaba comes she tries to claim that the house falling on Nessa was an accident because she didn't wanna face the truth, that it was because of a choice she made. She was hurt and angry when she told MM to use Nessa to trap Elphaba but she didn't think that choice through, she didn't think how her choice would affect other people and this was another big lesson for Glinda to learn, choices have consequences and her choices can and do affect other people. That's why Nessa's death was such a huge shock and why it was another eye opening moment for her.

When Elphaba calls her out on trying to claim it was an accident Glinda starts to face the truth it causes Glinda to start to doubt her choice to support the Wizard and MM. She starts to think maybe Elphaba was right about them. She starts to let the truth sink in, that it wasn't an accident and that MM murdered Nessa to lure Elphaba out of hiding and Glinda helped them do it.

Glinda is still angry at Elphaba and she still sees her as the reason Fiyero left her, Elphaba took him away from her so she starts that fight with her because of that. Glinda is taking out her anger on Elphaba because she sees her as the reason she didn't get what she wanted.

Then the Galeforce comes and they capture Elphaba, this is the second time Glinda sees the consequence of her choice. She never meant for anyone to get hurt, she never meant for them to capture Elphaba and it's another eye opening moment, she sees that her choice helped them do this, it put Elphaba in danger.

Then Fiyero comes and he threatens her life to make the Galefore release Elphaba. Glinda is shocked and she is upset by this but then she sees the truth, she sees why he threatened her.

She finally sees what real love is, it's sacrifice, it's putting someone else first, it's putting their safety and well being before yourself. Glinda realizes that love isn't about social status, and she realized being popular doesn't mean you're loved. Elphaba was hated but she had someone who loved her enough to die for her and Glinda was popular but she didn't have anyone who actually loved her.

She realizes that what she has isn't love, it's admiration. She realizes that the only love she has in her life is Elphaba, that friendship, that love between them is all she needs to feel valued, to feel worthy.

She also understands why Fiyero did everything he did, why he chose Elphaba, why he threatened her life. She understands why Elphaba chose Fiyero over her, love. They chose each other because they loved each other. When she finally understood this she let go of the hurt and anger she felt over not being chosen.

When Fiyero surrenders to the Galeforce rather than hurt her she sees another act of love, Fiyero wasn't in love with her but he did care about her and he would rather than die than hurt her. When the Galeforce starts to beat Fiyero, Glinda tries to get them to stop but they won't listen to her and when Fiyero is taken away Glinda sees another consequence of her choice and she sees the truth about the Wizard. Fiyero had to sacrifice himself because Elphaba was captured she was captured because Nessa was murdered, Nessa was murdered because of her choice. It's another consequence of her choice she feels guilt about and it's another eye opening moment for her. The Wizard and MM killed one person and were about to kill another, both were people she cared about and all of these events were what led to Glinda popping her bubble and seeing the truth.

Character analysis- Elphaba

This post is pretty long so if you don't wanna read its fine just ignore it.

This is my analysis of Elphaba's character in wicked. I've split it into 2 parts to keep it a bit shorter. This is the analysis from the first movie.

Please comment and share your thoughts. Enjoy!!!

wicked

We see the struggles for Elphaba started right after she was born. Her father didn't want her because she was green and he also seemed to be afraid of her, when she cried as a baby all the objects in the room went flying to the ceiling and he looked horrified. So he left her to be raised by Dulcibear. This is why she became so passionate for the Animals, an Animal was the only one who gave her love as a child.

Then we see Elphaba as a young girl, she admirers the Wizard because she believes he would welcome her and she dreams of one day living in the Emerald city, which is green and she belives the Emerald city is a place she believes she will be accepted. Her desire to be accepted was there from a young age because she never had been. This desire was the reason she wanted to work with the Wizard because she thought she would be accepted.

We see her being bullied as a child and we see her telekinetic powers when she sends the rocking spinning and hurls them towards the children that were bullying her. Her anger starting building at a very young age.

Governor Thropp comes outside and yells at Elphaba for making Nessa cry when it was really the children who were bullying her who made Nessa cry but of course he blamed Elphaba. This showed he started blaming Elphaba for things that weren't her fault at a very young age and this is why she was overly apologetic, she apologized for things she didn't need to because she had always been blamed for things.

This also showed Governor Thropp's treatment of Elphaba rubbed off on Nessa and she learned to blame her and be ashamed of her.

We also see how he favored Nessa and his treatment of her compared to how he treated Elphaba.

Being bullied and blamed caused to be become defensive and guarded, she put up walls to protect herself. She pretended not to care about what people thought of her and she was determined to show them that the way they treated her didn't bother her. She really had a tender soul but she hid that behind her defensiveness.

She actually felt very deeply and cared deeply about people, Animals and the world around her but she hid that part of herself from others.

I also think she was trying to hide or suppress her magic because of her father, I got the impression he didn't want her using it and we saw in that childhood scene he yelled at her and blamed her when she did so that's why she tried to hide or suppress and that's why it only came out in emotional outbursts. Using her magic just got her into trouble so she tried not to use it.

She developed an insecurity because the people who are supposed to automatically love you, her father and sister didn't, she was treated horribly by people and she never had any friends and other than Dulcibear had no one who loved her. Her green skin was the cause of all of this so this caused her to feel inferior to everyone else, made her believe no one could love her and caused her to believe she was ugly.

we see Elphaba as an adult arriving at Shiz, the only reason she's there is to help her sister get settled in. Elphaba wasn't even permitted to attend Shiz but was just there to help Nessa. It was apparent that Nessa still acted ashamed of Elphaba even though Elphaba loved Nessa and was trying to look out for her.

We also see more of governor Thropp belittles Elphaba, doting on Nessa in front of her, giving Nessa the shoes that belonged to their mother. We see briefly how this hurts Elphaba.

Governor Thropp asks Elphaba to take care of Nessa because she was his precious daughter and he couldn't bear it if anything happened to her. When she starts to tell him Nessa didn't need or want her help he cuts her off with "stop jabbering and do as I say" this is just another way he prioritized Nessa and belittled Elphaba.

Elphaba had to see the difference in how governor Thropp treated Nessa compared to how he treated her, he loved Nessa, he spoiled her and prioritized her while he hated, blamed, abused and belittled Elphaba. Yet Elphaba didn't resent Nessa for how their father treated both of them, she clearly loved Nessa even though Nessa acted ashamed of her.

When Elphaba first meets Glinda we see her defensiveness, she knows how people react when they see her so she developed a thick skin, or rather pretended to have a thick skin. She immediately tries to show everyone that their shock and horror at seeing her doesn't bother her. She goes off on the students, she had a list of answers to the usual questions people asked her in relation to her green skin, " No I am not seasick, no I did not eat grass as a child, and yes I have always been green." This is all part of her defensiveness, part of the armor she wore to keep her from getting hurt.

When she meets Glinda Glinda reacts how everyone else does and Elphaba sees right through her, she sees she's a people pleaser and performatively good, because Glinda offers to " help" her with skills she doesn't have but that offer makes Glinda look good.

When Elphaba meets Ms. Coddle her reaction is even more rude and offensive than Glinda's and Elphaba once again goes on the defensive" I'm beautifully tragic."

Elphaba is quick to anger over Ms. Coddle treating Nessa like she had a disability and not letting Nessa do things for herself. Elphaba wanted Nessa to have her freedom and she never wanted Nessa to be coddled. Nessa is upset over how Ms. Coddle was "helping" Nessa, she was quick to anger over it and her magic reacted by sending objects and people flying.

Elphaba's reaction is another time Nessa is ashamed of Elphaba, she doesn't want Elphaba making a scene.

Elphaba's magic catches MM's attention and she takes credit for that magical outburst, she covers for Elphaba. MM is the first person not to act shocked by Elphaba and she actually chooses her to train, this is the first time someone actually sees her as special, the first time someone chose her and MM was the first person not to judge her for being green. This is huge for Elphaba.

MM also encourages Elphaba, she tells Elphaba her magic is a talent and it's a talent that could lead to her meeting the Wizard and if she proved herself to him, it could lead to her working with him. This inspires Elphaba to work hard to learning to control her magic and to unlock her full potential.

The Wizard and I tells us that Elphaba believes if she can prove herself to the Wizard she will finally be loved and accepted because

everyone loved the Wizard and if she worked with him then they would have to love her and her life would change, it would get so much better. She hopes that once she was with the Wizard she would finally make her father proud and Nessa wouldn't be ashamed of her anymore and all of Oz would celebrate her.

When she moves into the dorm with Glinda she sees Glinda has made no effort to make room for her, it's clear she didn't want to be roommates with Elphaba, Elphaba sees Glinda as spoiled and self centered, and then Glinda pesters Elphaba about her magic and this causes Elphaba to be defensive again, by responding with "I don't know, I've never known." This tells Elphaba Glinda is jealous of her because she has magic, which was what Glinda wanted most and because MM chose her over Glinda. This causes Elphaba to have more loathing for Glinda but i think it was also amusing and maybe a bit refreshing for Elphaba knowing that Glinda was actually jealous of her because she had something Glinda didn't have and I think Elphaba liked knowing Glinda was jealous of her.

In the classroom scene Glinda is badgering Dr. Dillamond about how he pronounced her name and Elphaba is quick to anger at Glinda for this because it's clear it bothers Dr. Dillamond and Elphaba considers it Glinda mistreating Dr. Dillamond. This is why she speaks up to defend Dr. Dillamond.

Elphaba is definitely bothered and angered by the words someone wrote on the board, this is another sign of mistreatment towards Dr. Dillamond.

Elphaba helps Dr. Dillamond pick up the poppies he accidently knocked over to try and comfort him and this also shows Elphaba's kindness.

The scene where MM uses the words on the board to make Elphaba mad tells us why Elphaba was so quick to anger when she saw mistreatment or injustice, she believed no one should be treated the way she was. She knew what it felt like to be bullied, mocked, laughed at, looked down on etc and she didn't want anyone else to feel that way.

We see her get angry over the thought of someone being treated badly and she uses that angry to levitate the coin.

When Elphaba hears about the injustice the Animals were facing she says someone should tell the Wizard because she believes the Wizard is wonderful and surely he could do something.

While walking back to Shiz, Elphaba is knocked down by Fiyero nearly trampling her and this does not make a good impression with her. She immediately goes off on Fiyero, " is this how you go through life running amock and nearly trampling anyone in your path?".

Then Elphaba expects to hear from him what she heard from everyone else, all the usual questions about why she is green so just like when she met Glinda she decides to beat him to it and starts her rant about being green.

She looks at Fiyero and says " hmm" she seemed to see through him from the beginning, she saw that he was hiding behind a facade. She saw him as just another shallow, performative male version of Glinda.

She doesn't understand what he's really asking her when he says " and the defensiveness is that a recent development?" She thinks he's mocking her for being defensive because why would he do anything else, why would he be asking her if she's always been this defensive? Everyone always judged her for being green so why should he be different.

She hears Fiyero and Feldspar laughing and she thinks they're laughing at her, that they're mocking her just like everyone else did.

Elphaba didn't realize Fiyero was trying to charm her, that he was trying to flirt with her because she never thought anyone would ever try to flirt with her. No one would ever show any romantic interest in her and because of this she doesn't recognize flirting and no one would ever be interested in her.

She storms off and tells Fiyero to get stuffed because she thinks he's been mocking her, he's been laughing at her and she is defensive towards him.

When Fiyero arrives at Shiz, he sees Elphaba in the library, he seems genuinely happy to see her and waves at her but Elphaba rolls her eyes because she sees his kindness towards her as more performative goodness, he was only being nice to her to make himself look good. She thinks it's fake and that's why she rolls her eyes.

Then when Fiyero decides to start singing and dancing in the library Elphaba rolls her eyes again because she sees this as him performing some more, just putting on a show for attention, she sees it as people pleasing to make everyone like him.

When Nessa tells Elphaba about Glinda's "good" deed for her, getting Boq to ask her to the Ozdust Elphaba is immediately suspicious of Glinda's motives because she sees right through Glinda but Nessa is happy and Elphaba decides to let her keep that happiness. Then Elphaba starts to think it was an act of kindness on Glinda's part.

Later when Glinda gives Elphaba the hat Elphaba thinks it's a gift, Glinda tells her it's out of the goodness of her heart and she presents it to her as a gift. Elphaba thinks she's finally being accepted and she thinks she's misjudged Glinda, maybe there was more to her than she thought.

Because Glinda did something kind for her sister and for her Elphaba decides to do something kind for Glinda, by helping Glinda get her heart's desire, by insisting that MM include Glinda in her sorcery class.

When Elphaba arrives at the Ozdust she realizes the hat was a cruel joke meant to set her up to be humiliated. Elphaba's defenses go back up and she is determined to show them that they don't get to her, they can laugh at her all they want, it doesn't upset her. So she decides to do a dance all her own.

When Glinda first steps up she is suspicious of her motives, she thinks Glinda is going to humiliate her more but then she does the unexpected, she starts dancing with Elphaba. For the first time in her life, someone supports Elphaba, someone is actually there for her. This means up to Elphaba that she is moved to tears because it's the first time in her life anyone has ever done anything for her. This is the moment Elphaba makes the first friend she's ever had.

Elphaba tells Glinda her secret, that she believes her mother's death and Nessa's disability was her fault. Her mother died and Nessa was in the chair because she was green, this goes back to her deep insecurity about being green. It also shows the amount of blame her father put on her. Her father always blamed her and because of that she learned to blame herself and her green skin for life and people being so cruel and unfair to her.

Glinda then gives Elphaba a makeover and attempts to learn from Glinda how to be popular. She thinks if she is popular, if she can be like Glinda she will be accepted.

At the end of popular when Glinda tells Elphaba " miss Elphaba you're beautiful" Elphaba is overcome with emotion and rushes to leave, she wants to believe Glinda, she wants to be beautiful but she can't let herself believe someone could see her like that because she's never seen herself that way and until Glinda neither had anyone else.

After popular Elphaba is trying to practice tossing her hair like Glinda taught her. She sees Fiyero watching her out of the corner of her eye and she stops. He tells her " you're been Galindaifed. You don't need to do that you know." This is Fiyero telling her she didn't need to be like Glinda she was fine as she was. Elphaba is confused by this and she's not sure what to think but she appreciates the compliment. Fiyero's compliment had a big enough impact on her she stops trying to be like Glinda and goes back to being herself.

If we watch the friendship montage we see that Glinda's friendship did make Elphaba's life alot better, she was more accepted than she was in the past and she finally had friends for the first time in her life.

When Dr. Dillamond is dragged away, Elphaba is very vocal and openly protests but she is just told to ignore it and fall in line like she's supposed to. She had been told how Animals were disappearing in Oz and she saw the vision of Dr. Dillamond in the cage. This is why she knew the cage was a method of controlling Animals and she knew it was wrong. she wants to do something about it but she also knows she will need help. She'd seen enough from Fiyero to know he didn't like the injustices the Animals were facing either. He had a friendship with his horse Feldspar and when Dr. Dillamond was dragged away he actually protested by yelling "hey." It wasn't as bold as Elphaba but it was still more than anyone else did. This was enough for her to know she could trust him, that he would help her rescue the cub. So when her poppies put everyone to sleep she subconsciously keeps him awake and this is when the real Fiyero comes out and he springs into action. It's her first act of rebellion and he encourages her.

If we watch the deleted scene of the lion cub rescue Elphaba shows a side to herself we hadn't really seen that much of, her soft side, she was so gentle with the lion cub.

later Fiyero asks Elphaba " why is it you're always causing some sort have commotion?" Elphaba immediately goes on the defensive again because she takes his question as a jab. That's when she goes off on him " what is that supposed to mean?" " You think i should just keep my mouth shut is that what you're saying?" This line is telling because she'd told to just keep her mouth shut and do what she's supposed to do and she thought Fiyero thought she should do the same thing. " Do you think i wanna care this much?" "I know my life would be much easier if i didn't care but.." That's when Fiyero cuts her off with " do you ever let anyone else talk?" This question is also telling because wasn't used to actually talking to anyone, she always had to go on the defensive, always had to be so guarded.

She also saw and heard the truth about Fiyero, she now knows why he was using the facade, he used it to hide a deep unhappiness and she is the only person who heard what he was singing about in DTL. The poppy spell and Fiyero helping her rescue the cub showed Elphaba the truth about Fiyero, he may pretend to be shallow and self absorbed but he wasn't, like her he cared and like her he chose to fight against injustice.

When Fiyero goes to leave she grabs his hand to stop him from leaving and that slight touch was enough for her to feel her attraction for him.

She sees Fiyero's true self not who he pretends to be and that's when she realizes she has feelings for Fiyero, she falls for who he truly is.

Elphaba is now aware of her attraction for Fiyero but because she believes no one can love her she knows it's impossible that he could feel the same attraction for her that she felt for him. It's just another way life is unfair to her, she loves another person who will never love her back.

She knows she's not attractive by society's standards, she's not naturally charming or likeable and she's not someone people naturally accept, the only reason she was accepted at this point was because of Glinda's friendship. She knows Fiyero has no reason to choose her over Glinda. She knows it's impossible that he felt the same attraction she did so she resigns herself to that truth and she accepts it because what else can she do? She won't even let herself wish it could be different, that he could love her because it just hurts to much to hope for it to be true.

In the deleted scene we see Glinda is insecure that Elphaba chose Fiyero to help her rescue the lion cub instead of her. When Glinda mentions Elphaba and Fiyero were both gone together Elphaba responds with " we just rescued the lion cub that's all." She doesn't see any need to tell Glinda about her and Fiyero's shared moment because she doesn't know he was attracted to her and she wants to protect Glinda, she doesn't want to hurt her needlessly so she just tells Glinda he just helped her rescue the cub. Elphaba also knows Glinda is saddened because she wasn't chosen by Elphaba so Elphaba promises not to leave Glinda behind again. I think Elphaba may have thought Glinda was blaming her for not choosing her over Fiyero and that's why she apologizes to Glinda, because she has always been blamed.

Elphaba receives an invitation to go see the Wizard and Elphaba knows she's finally gotten her chance, her chance to be with the Wizard and she could finally prove herself.

In the deleted scene for the train station scene we see Elphaba's father's come to visit Nessa, he is praising Nessa. MM tells the Governor about Elphaba being invited to see the Wizard and he responds with " yes let's just hope she makes a good impression." We see a flash of emotion across Elphaba's face, she knows this is him belittling her again, he doesn't have enough faith in her to even hope she would make a good impression on the Wizard.

Also in the other deleted scene, we see Elphaba call Boq out because he doesn't love Nessa, she knows this and she doesn't want Nessa to get hurt. Boq calls Elphaba out on her feelings for Fiyero, and she is shocked that he knows about her feelings and her instinct is to deny it because again she doesn't think he feels the same way about her and she doesn't want Glinda to get hurt and she is also denying to herself, to protect herself. She doesn't wanna let herself wish it could be true because it just hurts to much when she realizes he doesn't love her, or rather he can't love her.

Glinda tells Elphaba Fiyero was acting differently since the day Dr. Dillamond was dragged away but Elphaba doesn't know why he's acting differently. She thinks it's because it's the day he saw the mistreatment of the Animals and he was looking at the world differently, which was true she just didn't know his distance was because he had feelings for Elphaba.

When Fiyero comes to wish Elphaba well he tells her he thinks about the day Dr. Dillamond was dragged away alot, again Elphaba doesn't know it's because that's the day he realized his feelings for her. She thinks his feelings for her aren't anymore than friendship. She looks confused when he gives her the poppy but she quickly tucks it away.

Remembering her promise to Glinda and she feels back because Glinda is sad Elphaba invites Glinda to go with to see the Wizard.

When Elphaba and Glinda arrive at the Wizards palace Elphaba is nervous and desperate to prove herself which is why she's tricked into performing the spell on the Monkeys, she thinks she's helping them but once she sees it's causing Chistery pain she wants to undo it but then she is told a spell from the Grimmerie can't be undone.

When she was asked what her heart's desire was the Wizard expects her to ask him to degreenify her but instead she asks him to help the Animals. This says alot for her character, she has the chance to be rid of her deepest insecurity, the cause of so much pain for her and she is willing to let that chance go to ask the Wizard to help the Animals instead.

After MM and the Wizard slip and reveal to much Elphaba realizes the truth, the Wizard had no real power and was the one behind the controlling and caging of the Animals. This is all she needs to know and she won't have any part of it. She takes the Grimmerie so that they cant use it to perform anymore horrible spells and flees the emerald city.

Once away, Elphaba's refusal to join the Wizard and MM put her life in danger, she knows she needs to leave to protect herself but she also knows things need to change. Someone needs to stand against the Wizard and she decides it should be her, she believes she has the power to defeat the Wizard and change Oz.

She asks Glinda to come with her because she is keeping her promise to Glinda not to leave her behind and because she doesn't wanna be alone anymore. She finally had a friend and she didn't wanna lose that friendship but she knew she couldn't stay.

When Glinda chooses to stay behind Elphaba understands her choice, it hurts but she understands and she accepts it, she accepts that she will be alone again.

When MM starts lying about Elphaba and declares Elphaba the wicked witch, we can see how much MM's betrayal hurt Elphaba, MM was teaching her, she told Elphaba she was special, her magic was something to be celebrated not hidden but she realizes now it was all because they wanted to use her, to use her power.

Elphaba leaves Glinda and everyone else behind to live in hiding and fight the Wizard, save the Animals and change Oz.

Did Chistery know about the plan?

So Chistery brings Elphaba the note from Fiyero telling he was alive and to go through with the plan and I realized Chistery must have known Fiyero was the scarecrow because Fiyero would have had to give him that note to take to Elphaba. Kinda random thing but i thought of it and wanted to share. Thoughts?

Boq blamed Glinda, Nessa and Elphaba

After several rewatches of the movies I now think Glinda knew Boq was the tinman during MOTWH. If we watch the friendship montage we see they did hang out together as friends. I think she recognized him and it was another example of how a choice she made affected someone else. She directed him towards Nessa and if she hadn't done that maybe he wouldn't have become the tinman.

The mob was also another big moment of realization for Glinda. She saw how bad things had gotten for Elphaba while she was blistfully floating along in her bubble, trying to make herself "happy" while her best friend was being hunted and vilified. The's when she decided enough was enough and when she finally decided to pop her bubble.

Also i think Boq blamed Glinda for his fate as well as Elphaba and Nessa because she was the one who directed him towards Nessa. I think that's why he gave her that hateful, angry look, he was thinking " you're the reason I became this."

Glinda reconignized Boq

I think that's why he gave her that hateful, angry look, he was thinking " you're partially to blame for what I've become."

My interpretation of the ending

my interpretation of the ending after watching a second time-

I honestly think Jamie did die. Claire held him and hugged him surely she would have noticed a faint breath, heartbeat or pulse? Also she didn't try any medical techniques at all, it seems if he was barely alive she would have tried something. She even had her head on his chest. This IMO shows Jamie did really die after he was shot.

I don't think Claire died, her hair wouldn't have turned white, and i don't think her blue light powers would have worked if she was dead. I think she would have died alongside Jamie, she was ready to but then her powers activated.

Jamie's ghost, went to the stones, made the forget me nots grow, which led Claire back to the stones and led her to him, it showed that their souls truly were connected across time and space. I loved that detail.

I think Jamie was dead and Claire brought him back, that's why her hair turned white, it took alot of energy for her to do that and she came into her full powers.

They both open their eyes and gasp at the end which tells me they both live, if you're a spirit you don't gasp. So IMO they both live, return home and life goes on.

The journal was thick in the after credits scene, i think that's a hint that Claire lived long enough to finish it, which means they both lived to old age.

I know alot of people were disappointed with the ending and that's sad, to follow a show for so long and then not like the ending. I really feel bad for y'all that didn't like it.

I think it was a beautiful ending, it brought it full circle and it brought it all back to Jamie and Claire. I loved the explanation for the ghost and it was a happy ending cause they both live.

No good deed

I think what makes No good deed hit so hard for me is we just came from as long as you're mine a few minutes before, it was one of the few times Elphaba was happy. Fiyero sacrificed everything for her, they slept together and he told her they were gonna be together always and it's being ripped away. Then she has the guilt of knowing it was happening because of her, because of her choice to fight the Wizard, because he sacrificed himself to save her. Fiyero was the only person who ever chose her, who sacrificed for her and who never betrayed her.

The anger had been building since MM branded her the wicked witch but this was the last straw. All of it, MM's betrayal, Glinda's choice to stay behind, ( Elphaba didn't blame Glinda for that) but it still hurt, then she was alone for a year, she was betrayed and blamed by everyone, Fiyero was the only person who didn't blame her and who was always fighting for her. Then Nessa was murdered and then Fiyero was being tortured by the Galeforce. All of that trauma, all of that anger and pain just exploded out of her, believing she failed to save Fiyero is what broke her.

In the end she stops fighting, she stops caring about doing good because all it's done is hurt people she loves. She stops caring and because she stops caring she considers herself wicked for not finishing her fight. It's a really powerful song, it's one of my favorites in either movie and i felt really bad for Elphaba and for Fiyero.

Sara's relationships

I think it's interesting that everyone gave Chuck and Sara for their feelings but Sara had relationships with Bryce and Shaw. I know she didn't actually love them but still it's something I was thinking about.

Jill

I really don't like Jill but I think she was important for Chuck to finally let go and move on. He needed that closure with her to get over their breakup and put that part of the past behind him. Thoughts?

Glinda in wonderful

Glinda being in wonderful in the movie showed that she wasn't just complacent but actively participating with the Wizard, she even says " yes he's wonderful, it's in his name." It's manipulative enough when it was just the Wizard but having Glinda there made it worse.

Elphaba was so lonely and desperate to hold onto any connection she had. It tempted her so much more to join them because she wanted to have Glinda back in her life.

For Glinda it showed more of her living in her bubble, she didn't see anything other than what she wanted. She was lonely as well, she wanted her best friend back, but she didn't really think about whether what she wanted, what was best for her was best for Elphaba. These were the people who wanted Elphaba dead, who were hunting her, who vilified her but Glinda wants her to join them because she wants Elphaba's friendship back.

Glinda was probably trying to help Elphaba in a very misguided way but she was definitely not right. They were both using Elphaba's desire to be accepted and loved to try and manipulate her into joining them. They were saying " join us and you'll be wonderful too, join us and you'll be loved and accepted."

Glinda being there is why it almost worked IMO, she did agree to join them until she found the room with the caged Animals.

Honestly, Glinda had no consideration for anyone else until she popped her bubble and this was another example of that. Elphaba was right not to join them, the Wizard wouldn't have honored his end of the deal especially with MM involved and they would have just used Elphaba, that's why they wanted her to join them in the first movie, they wanted her power.

The Wizard and MM would have used her, they probably would have tried to force her to use her power to cast more spells from the grimmerie or something.

Glinda didn't see the Wizard as bad, I don't even think she understand why the Wizard and Elphaba were fighting or why Elphaba wouldn't just join them.

She was trying to help Glinda in a very wrong and misguided way but it still really bothers me because should not join the corrupt system, they were the ones responsible for caging the Animals, the ones who turned her into the Wicked Witch and all of Oz hate her. Glinda can't just expect people to do what she wants because she wants it or because she thinks it's what's best. What's best for her doesn't it's what's best for others.

IMO, it was more of Glinda's misplaced goodness she thinks she's doing a good thing, she thinks she's helping Elphaba when really it's just about getting what she wants. That's why it was upsetting to her when Elphaba didn't join the system. Anyway just sharing my perspective.

Just sharing how it looks to me. Thoughts?

My opinion on the closure they gave us

I think they did a good job wrapping up storylines. The Cunningham storyline wrapped up, with him and Elspbeth returning to England, The mystery of why Frank wrote his book was solved.

Roger finally got ordained, he found his purpose

Rachel and Ian were raising Ian's son and she put her insecurities about Emily aside

Fanny having the time travel gene proved her parentage, the she is Jamie and Claire's granddaughter

since Marsali presumably got the inheritance that means Fergus was the Comte's son

William let of his anger towards Jamie and John and he and Jamie worked it out, William ha both of his fathers

John and Jamie settled their differences, they were friends again

Nobody cares about Amarathus but she likely went back to Ben

The series finale answered whether or not Jamie died at king's mountain

Spoilers title- My opinion on John and Claire

My opinion about the lord John/ Claire marriage- first of all they were both grieving Jamie but I don't think John should have gone to Claire when she was in that emotional state, she was contemplating suicide, she didn't really know what was happening. However, i think it helped Claire, it was a way of being with Jamie one last time and i think it helped her through some of her grief. John was also grieving Jamie and it was probably something they both needed, not that I think it should have happened.

I don't think anyone would react well to finding out their best friend slept with their wife to be honest. The reason Jamie reacted so violently the way he did was because John trigged Jamie's ptsd, we saw him do that in the past at Ardsmuir prison, when he said " we were both f...... you". That was a line John was never supposed to cross. It was because John used Claire, the person Jamie loves most, as a way to be with him. That's why it was so hard for him to let it go. It's like Jamie said in season 8 episode 9 " it felt like a betrayal of our friendship".

As for why he was upset with Claire for it he said he was afraid she thought about John in their bed, that was what he was struggling with for Claire's side of it but Claire reassured him she didn't and then he seemed to let of his anger towards her.

Honestly the whole thing would gone alot better if John had just let Claire tell Jamie about it, Jamie would have taken it better from her and she could have helped him understand it better.

He did eventually forgive John but that's why it took him to long to let it go. I'm not saying John and Claire were wrong exactly, I wish it hadn't happened but it took Jamie a while to work through his anger at both John and Claire and his feelings of betrayal but he did work through it. Just my opinion.

The differnt in the romantic relationships

During their conversation during thank goodness Glinda askes Fiyero if it'll make him happy to marry her and he replies " you know me i'm always happy." IMO this shows the difference in the romantic relationships. Glinda never really saw Fiyero as more than the charming carefree prince he was in the first movie and he was never himself around her.

Fiyero relaxed around Elphaba, even during the lion cub rescue he took off his jacket, rolled up his sleeves and stopped using the facade.

He never relaxed with Glinda, even in the first movie he was always playing a role around her and to be honest I'm not even sure if Glinda saw him as a person, more like a trophy or an asset, something that belonged to her.

We see again in ALAYM that he relaxes with Elphaba, he takes off his jacket, rolls up his sleeves, takes his suspenders off his shoulders, unbuttons his shirt half way and he acts like himself because that's who Elphaba always saw him as.

My opinion is Glinda loved the prince, what he represented, what he could give her, his status. Elphaba loved him as a person, not the prince, not his looks, not his status but him. This is why he was able to relax with her and why he chose her. When we look at this way it makes sense why he chose Elphaba.

The Christies

This is show only- In season 6 when the Christies were introduced I didn't like Tom Christie, he was clearly jealous of Jamie and I assumed he was gonna be trouble.

I actually ended up liking Tom Christie, it was obvious he loved Claire and that's why he tried to save her which was noble imo and I'mglad he was free in the end.

I feel a bit bad for Malva, being assaulted by her brother, then being murdered when she was going to tell Claire the truth. I see her as a bit of a victim and I do think she genuinely cared about Claire.

I felt really bad for Jamie and Claire with the fisher folk turning on them and the house being shot up just everything they went through.

As for Alan Christie, there always seemed to something off about him and I hated him when the truth was revealed, I was glad when Ian killed him, he was a truly disgusting, evil person imo.

Personally, I like the darker tone of season 6 and it kept me guessing.

The wedding parallels

The parallel scene at the wedding could represent a few different things.

First the lies are in the light and the truth is in the dark.

second- Fiyero was trapped in that engagement and that almost marriage was forced on him. We could consider his situation as a type of cage and by coming to the wedding Elphaba not only freed the animals but also " freed" Fiyero, it gave him the chance to leave and get out of a system he hated and not have to marry Glinda. Fiyero was finally free to be with Elphaba.

third- it could refer to the " caged" mentality of the wedding guests. The Ozians were so brainwashed that they believed anything Morrible, the Wizard or Glinda told them. In a way the wizard and Morrible had the ozians in mental "cages."

Fourth- Glinda was kinda in a cage herself, she was so deep in her bubble she didn't the world, she just saw herself and what she wanted. MM used her selfishness and her desire to be popular to keep her under control and because Glinda needed to be popular so badly, she couldn't resist what supporting them gave her. So in a way Glinda was trapped in a cage of her own selfishness and her own desires.
