AT&T internet problems

I have at&t internet and it has been down for 6 days. The web site doesn't give updates on when it will be back. Says the technicans are on it, don't call because they can't tell you anything. It just says there is an outage in my area. Anyone else have this going on?

Big goals. How do I find new ones?

My whole life is based on big goals. Set one, work towards it, achieve it, and set another. Since retirement, I don't have any.

I've had financial, personal, travel, and volunteer goals. I've hit a dead end with that now. I feel as if I've hit every goal and cannot think of anything else to add to the list.

*Financially, I am doing great. No debt, great cushion.

*Personal goals need work, but not a dive-in type of thing. I'm working on better fitness, but that seems never-ending to me.

*Travel: I've been to a lot of places, but no gotta-see-it plans.

*Volunteer: I have a program that will be ending in two years and need to find something for after that, but it's great for now.

I was thinking of a bucket list and setting a goal to get it done in 5 years or something like that. I have a lot of little things I'd like to do, but nothing big. Maybe the list would be the big goal.

I feel as if I'm drifting. Maybe I don't need a big goal. Do you have big goals still? Anything big you are looking to do, or see? Give me some ideas!

Do I need a physical?

I get a yearly mammogram and blood work. If everything looks OK (I do have high cholesterol), I see no reason to get a physical, since my doctor never does anything. Weight, temp & blood pressure; looks up the nose and throat; asks how I feel. I say OK, and that is it. After last year's PAP, I was told I no longer needed them.

My old doctor did all of the above and looked at my skin, moved my arms and legs (to check the joints), and asked me a bunch of questions.

This guy tries to get me to take a flu shot; not interested. Tries to put me on statins-I have very bad reactions.

Do you get physicals anymore?

Does this ever happen to you? Asked late to a party

We were asked a few minutes ago to go to a 4th party. The same people did this last year but asked us the day before. At least this time we got two days' notice.

I was talking to another invitee several days ago, and she said, "See you Sunday." I asked what was going on Sunday. She told me about this get-together. She assumed we had been asked.

Kicker is it's my in-laws!

My son's neighbor puts on a monster fireworks show, so we were already planning on doing that. I just find it rude to ask someone to a party the day or two before, when everyone else invited has known for weeks.

Does this happen to you?

Funerals, how do you decide when to go or not?

When considering whether to attend a funeral, how do you make your decision based on your relationship with the deceased? For instance, do you feel compelled to go if you knew the person well and shared a close bond? What about those individuals for whom you were only a casual acquaintance—do you still find it important to pay your respects? Additionally, how does your decision change for someone you knew a long time ago, perhaps in a different phase of life? What factors do you take into account when weighing your connection and the significance of attending the service?

I have a friend who goes to every funeral, even if she only knows the deceased slightly.

So what is your criteria for attending funerals?

When did you change your dreams?

My son has wanted to be a novel writer since he was 15 (been at it 20 years). He has written two books, but cannot get any further. He has written a few articles and had them published. He has a YouTube channel where he reads his stories in partnership with his brother. They both write and read stories.

He did get one book published, but the company made him handle all the promotion, and he fell flat. He is not a social person, does not use social media at all, and has Asperger's. With AI on the rise, I just don't see it going anywhere. I do not want to discourage him because he writes great stuff. But I think he is beating a dead horse at this point. I've told him he can stop trying to become a published author and just write for himself, but he thinks that is ridiculous.

This child has worn me thin with his thought process. He cannot do two things at the same time, so he says he cannot date, get married, and have children (he says he really wants to) while also being a writer.

I had to give up a dream of being an artist when I was young. I got terrible advice from my school counselor, who convinced me I would die a pauper. I was later introduced to commercial art and graphic design, and I should have gone down that path. I didn't realize that lady was an idiot. I moved on and did other things. He just seems stuck.

He is not living the rest of his life because of this dream. When is it time to give up your dream and start living life?

Add-on - He has a career that will support him long term. He is a lab manager at a local prototype shop. He owns a house that he paid off this January. He is debt-free.

What kind of hobbies do you have that don't cause clutter in your house?

I am a super crafty person. I see something at a craft show or on YouTube, and I can make it. I just don't want to make too many because I don't want this stuff in my house. I don't want to give it to people because I don't want their stuff either. I have supplies all over and don't use them. Right now, I am trying to use up or give away materials I have.

I'm looking for a hobby that doesn't require supplies. Music is out, as I cannot read music, no matter how hard I have tried. And I cannot tell the different betwen notes being played.

What hobbies do you have that don't require materials?

Caring for elderly person with dementia - relative issues

My friend has been a caretaker for her uncle (92) for several years. The uncle lives alone, but my friend is a neighbor, right next door. She has hired a few people as companions for four days a week. The uncle has dementia and is getting pretty bad. He wandered off the other day. One of the companions found him walking down the road. He puts raw meat in the cupboard, will not eat, misses his medicines, and forgets what a phone is and what it's for.

My friend is looking into a care facility as she, her cousin, and both companions think he needs to be somewhere. The uncle has children, both bio and step. The bio kids came to visit and said he is fine and doesn't need a care home. They live in different states and see him once a year, if that. My friend cannot keep up with the care that is needed.

The uncle has been declared incompetent to care for himself by his primary care doctor, but they need another evaluation in order for him to be deemed incompetent to self-care (state rule). My friend (medical care facilitator) and her cousin (financial facilitator and stepson) need guardianship to help this man. The second evaluation will take place this week, but the results will not be available for 4 weeks.

They think the bio kids are trying to get in control of the uncles' finances and care because they have mentioned that people are "stealing money, kicking him out of his home, and not feeding him correctly". It's a giant mess.

I went through all of this when my mother was ill about 10 years ago. I have no idea if there are better ways to handle these situations now or if it's still a giant mess like it was back then. My mom had a social worker for each place she stayed, but nothing outside of medical facilities.

What are her options at this point? Do they need to get a lawyer? If so, an elder care-specific lawyer? Should they get a social worker? If so, where do they look for that?

Awkward situation with a widow

I volunteer for a charity. We had a meeting yesterday because we are having an event soon. The meeting went well. One of the ladies at the meeting, "Annie," called me later to talk about something else involving the charity. Everything seemed fine.

Annie's husband died two+ years ago. At about 10:30 pm, I get a text from her stating she regrets telling me she is lonely and I am not to mention it to anyone. She then sends another text at 10:45 saying she IS lonely, it's not easy, and that the charity's leader, "Julie," has helped her and been very kind to her.

I'm the type of person who doesn't get clues people put out. So, if she had asked, "Hey, can you help me with ____? Or I am lonely, can we do something?" I would get it. But cryptic messages go over my head. She used to call me a lot, and I would meet with her to exercise, go shopping, etc., but she stopped doing that because she got someone else to go with her. That's a long story, and I was OK with it.

I don't know how to answer this, or do I even need to reply? We have an event next week, and I feel really awkward now. I have no idea what she was getting at. Or what to say when I see her.

Awkward situation

I volunteer for a charity that helps inner-city people grow their own vegetable gardens. We had a meeting yesterday because we are having an event soon. The meeting went well. One of the ladies at the meeting, "Annie," called me later to talk about something else involving the charity. Everything seemed fine.

At about 10 pm, I get a text from her stating she regrets telling me she is lonely and I am not to mention it. She then sends another one saying she is lonely, it's not easy, and that the charity's leader, "Julie," has helped her and been very kind to her.

I have no idea what she is talking about. Annie's husband died two years ago. I don't know how to answer this at all. We have an event next week, and I feel really awkward now.

Is there some hidden message or question I'm not picking up on?
