How to deal with prior work experience that isn’t transferable to anything?

I got kicked out of the navy with a general discharge in April where I was an air traffic controller for 3 years. I was able to find a job junk hauling in July but desperately need a new job because I don’t work many hours but can’t have two jobs because I never really know what time I’m expected to show up and never know what time I will be off. I send out tons of applications and get interviews occasionally maybe once a week but never get a call back. Am I wrong to think that after going through air traffic control training for years( as it’s a job where you’re constantly training) that whatever they could possibly be paying the minimum wage to do that I could learn it relatively quickly despite not having 3 years customer service experience?

The phrase “a chip on your shoulder “

What does this even mean? People keep labeling me as this. I’ve looked up the definition but still don’t get it. You can just say anyone who vocalizes a disagreement with you has “a chip on their shoulder “ to immediately change the focus of conversation from the disagreement to the persons attitude?

How to get into some type of construction?

I know generally construction sucks and is also looked down upon. Im currently working in junk removal so I’m sure it will suck about the same but I’d get paid more. My dad was a carpenter and I help him with projects around the house so I have a little experience but don’t really know what I’m doing. I know how to use basic tools and follow instructions.

How do you pass those assessments on job applications

Those stupid tests where it is like two statements on each side of the screen and it says something along the lines of most like me or whatever. Recently been rejected from several positions with the reasoning that I failed. I am bad at lying but it appears that lying is required for these? What is like the “correct “ way to complete these?

How to pretend to enjoy socializing

I truly can not stand interacting with other people. Every conversation seems like some type of performance where I am expected to pretend to care. So how do I pretend to be interested in what the other person is saying? I don’t think I will often actually be interested and so the advice of “just actually care about what they’re saying” is probably not going to work for me. Just trying to learn how to have a positive social interaction.

How long will it take to get my credit score back up?

So I am 21 years old and up until 2 months ago had a credit score somewhere between 720-740. Was struggling to find a job ended up running up credit card debt with no way to pay it off I know not good but it’s already done. I have found employment and paid the accounts to current at the very least and am working on paying them off over the next few months. Credit score down to a 630. Is a 630 a bad score? How long will it take approximately to recover the to the 720 range? Up until two months ago I had never missed a payment.

Any way to increase my chances of becoming an apprentice or becoming one faster?

Went to a recruiting event recently for my local ibew. They went into the process of applying and becoming an apprentice and everything. It seems the number of people trying to become an apprentice is far higher than the number of people they want to train. They said it takes around 6 months after you apply to interview then it takes another 6 months after that to actually get started and then ofc you are an apprentice for 5 years. Is there anything I can do to start doing electrical work in less than a year? And will any of that make it easier/faster for me to get into the union? I have no electrical experience all I can do is change a power outlet.

Why is being honest (not insulting people) rude?

Just had a situation where my step mom got very upset with me because she asked how work was and I said it was “fine I guess, its work.” And she said that I am always rude and disrespectful because of responses like this. Is the polite thing to do lie? Or like when a stranger asks you “how are you?” And the default answer seems to be “I’m good.” But this provides basically no description or context of how the person is doing. And if the person asking would potentially be upset by the answer why would they ask? What should I have said instead?

What do I need to actually do to get a job?

I already did the sending thousand applications and dozens of interviews where they went with a better candidate and the saying o well it’s a rough market. But the better candidates obviously have something I don’t then because they have to pick somebody. I’m trying to find work in like retail or fast food or something.

Will the VA allow me to get a new retainer?

Quick question. I just got out and my claim is still in process. I had braces when I was a kid and have mostly always worn my retainer so if this is something that needs to be like documented on my record it should be there.

What can I do to get experience/skills for free or very cheap

21 years old been unemployed for 2 months after leaving the navy. Only work experience I have is in ATC. I have already applied but the FAA is literally a lottery where they select 1000 of the first 8000 applications for interviews and then those people have to go through medical and training and everything. Anyway It seems that the only job that atc experience is useful in is ATC. I want to become a 911 operator but my Typing speed is not good enough so I have been playing monekytype for an hour each day for the last week. What are some other things like that I can do that will actually make me employable?

Applied for Package handler, got a “conditional offer “ email and then nothing?

About 3 weeks ago I applied for fedex online. The next day they sent me a “conditional offer” which I clicked their link and verified the shifts I would want to work. And since then nothing. How long does this usually take? Is there anything on my end that needs to be done? If so why haven’t I received any further information?

Am I underqualified or overqualified? is being overqualified even real?

21 male veteran only work experience is military ATC of which I have 3 years. also work with my dad who's a carpenter by trade but is now in the managerial side in his day to day. but I help him with his projects outside of work so I have a very basic understanding of carpentry and can use tools.

been trying to find a job for the last 2 months in the northern CA area. have been denied from dozens of fast food and retail establishments. occasionally I have had some interviews mostly from potential employers in door-to-door sales and one to be a private investigator. Also been doing the door-to-door thing on my own since December and haven't made a single dime from it so I'm not sure it's for me. how can I actually get hired at a McDonalds for example?

Had truly no idea how broken tavern brawler is.

Just started a new honor mode attempt and decided to play a path of giants barb I’m lv 4 and I grabbed tavern brawler the damage on throwing the returning pike is about the same as gwm but it’s at range and far more accurate. I have a 95 hit chance on most enemies or a 90 with disadvantage. Just fought the hag and still had 70. Never wanted to use a tavern brawler monk just because I’m too lazy to always use strength elixir. But omg this feat completely breaks the game.

Fun way to flavor my eldritch blast

I haven’t played dnd in years but I have an Upcoming campaign soon. I am using a human warlock whose patron is Titania. I have played several warlocks but I have never used the archfey patron and I always described my eldritch blasts as either like red laser beam or something that resembles a spiritual weapon flying through the air to attack enemy. I also had one that his eldritch blast was a revolver constructed of holy light. Can you guys give me some ideas?

In your experience do players use their heroic inspiration frequently

That’s it title. I’m trying to play a character who is focused on supporting their allies by giving out and using inspiration as often as possible. But since you can only have it or not have it people actually need to use it for it to be valuable.

I was recently kicked out of the military for bad behavior. I was charged with “failure to follow a lawful order” and granted an under honorable conditions (general) for my discharge. Every job I have applied to since getting out has required a background check all of which I have failed due to this. I have read online that I don’t need to show my DD214 or disclose my military service if I do not wish to receive veterans preference In hiring. I have also read that failure to disclose that information is fraud and they will see it anyway. Also pretty much all of my working experience is from the military so what should I do in regards to that if choosing not to disclose my military service? Will I never pass another background check?
